Is that last year? Sounds about right if it was down South; here the cheapest I paid was $1.29/gal. Back in 99 I could get gas for $0.79/gal in Alabama.

Our swim team coach has a 2008 Tundra. For his birthday, the kids got him a nice Yakima rack. I told him today we could switch trucks for a day and I would install it for him. He said - about that, the truck needs 8K of work, I might sell it. He spent 2K on something. I told him to get me the printout from the shop. He has to look for it, but something about removing the engine. He went in with a bad fuel pump. I'm guessing that was the 2K. But he remembers "new belt, cracks on something, leaking oil" as the big problem. What could be cracked other than the block and need the engine pulled? I haven't asked if its 2/4WD. If he sends me the estimate / printout, I'm hoping you guys can help me nail it down. 2nd gen and all.

Would you pull the engine for that? I honestly don't know. But you may be right. My fear is that they are f-ing him. The belt could be a timing belt, I'm assuming Toyota kept those after gen 1

Ah, thanks boys. When I hear crack, leak, belt, pull engine - I think the timing belt, pulling the engine is maybe a bullshit excuse to make the belt, water pump, etc easy. I think @FrenchToasty hit the common issue of cam tower for the leak. Maybe the crack is that as well, or a motor mount if pulling the engine is really a thing. I think they are trying to fuck him, but I don't know what they are claiming yet.

07+ tundra and 08+ sequoia 4.7s have a different oil pan setup that won’t work in 1st gens. They also have the SAIS valves on the valve covers. Past that same motor as 05-06 tundra

I've pretty much quit trying for newbs.. @shifty` summed it up in one post somewheres while also engaging a newb..

Can't find that post now, but I guarantee you he will be able to find it in 2.5. That man is a fucking wizard of the internet if I ever saw it.

He has the system of wizards. Probably a catalog of posts and everything he ever learned. Both too simple and too difficult for the common man to grasp.
