@speedtre I was expecting you to say she ended up liking your truck so much it's now her truck. My wife doesn't mind driving my trucks when we do road trips. I hate driving the entire time.

I would get the Jeep Cherokee TracHawk with the HellCat motor. I can't see anyone being unimpressed with it other than maybe the price tag. :D

Interesting. A female coworker told me she didn't buy one for that same reason.

It's the camper shell that kills visiblity. My truck was extremely easy to see out of before the shell. Way less blind spots than any modern SUV.

Hate to disagree but convincing @chrisb and @Jack McCarthy etc, that a DC => AC has become very daunting

Since adding my camper shell I have
    • backed into our Rav4. Really sucked as it was pristine for it's age. Just barely left a dent on the truck bumper but fucked up the Rav4 bumper.
    • backed into my neigbors truck so soft that I wasn't even sure I hit it, and didn't damage either vehicle. Left him a note anyways. After this time I got the backup camera.
    • backed into chain link fence at the rental house we had in 2020 causing scratches on the side of my bed. Was watching the camera and failed to look at my side mirror like an idiot.
After that 3rd time I now back up like an elderly woman leaving church. I have no excuse at this point.

Have you tried the fisheye lens you stick to the back of the shell window? My brother used to use his before there were backup cameras.

    1. I love love love my backup camera. Ridiculously overpriced? Absolutely. Worth every penny? Sure.
    2. No joke, this morning at 1am I took the Freightliner with 8 horses loaded in the trailer (or was it 10?) into a freaking truck wash as I missed a turn out of the fuel station after my bro in law did his long evening pull. I had to wake his ass up to back it up, around and down the giant oval. Oh, and I freaking stalled it too, set the brake and thought I was in neutral. Humbling!
    3. You silly guys arguing about back seats, wtf, back seats are where the problems all begin.

PS...what's your go to Toyota Truck/SUV shop in this area? I had Parker fix a repair that was screwed up in the middle of our cross-country move in CO (I need to do a post on that) and was happy with the service there, so for anything dealer specific, they seem pretty good.

Driver aids are great...but they are killing driving skills...at least they have caused some of mine to devolve. Having my last 5 vehicles with backup cameras has made me lazy...I backed into a dumpster corner with my 2000 4Runner cause I just watched the camera and didn't check the side view mirror and put a little ding in my rear hatch...it's the only significant body damage on an otherwise pristine bodied 2000 4Runner....I really pissed myself off that day....:mad::mad:

I am incapable of using a backup camera. My lefts and rights get mixed up, cant judge distance. 0/10 refuse to use. But the older i get, and the harder it is to turn all the way around, the more i miss a low back bench seat.

i would like to know how to tie my rear camera in with a dash cam.

I get all jacked up backing trailers with a back up camera equipped truck. Too used to doing it without one, for some reason I get all crossed if I look at the screen in the cab instead of behind me. Smooth brain in action

Yeah, that's just ... yeah. I put in 2¢ but I held my nose while doing it. I didn't want to touch that mess. 27 years without issue, then all of a sudden the end result looks like someone had multiple strokes while doing it? Yeesh.

I've started to notice something, and I can't believe I've never noticed this before. It seems like 19 out of 20 people who come here and their 1st post is a question that's easy enough to look up OR a problem never make it past that 1st thread, and don't hang around very long. I suspect that'll be the case here, and I kinda hope so because that unpunctuated wall of letters rustled my jimmies bigtime.

Sorry to hear, hope you're on the mend soon. Touched on this in an earlier post but both our kids are in quarantine from school for 2 weeks b/c my son tested positive this weekend. He got it from his after-school nanny, who tested positive 4-5 days prior, managed to infect 7 other people we know before showing any symptoms. He and I spent tons of time together over 48 hours prior to his symptoms. I've had typical flu-like symptoms (body aches, runny nose, etc.) since the day after he showed.

On the plus side, all his symptoms were gone within 48 hours. Mine are 70% gone, few lingering body aches, headache, sneezing. Assume the quick pass is due to being jabbed but who the hell knows. We all got Pfizer, wife & I boosted w/Moderna. Wife and daughter are asymptomatic, fingers crossed. Not our 1st rodeo, though.

Sad reality is, much of the human race has slowly lost all ability to think critically, much less think for themselves, at least in a way that's based in logical, educated reality. Deductive reasoning is out the window, people don't seem to have enough fundamental skills to be able to troubleshoot anything or make actual educated decisions. It's increasingly become "stupid to be smart", and anyone who speaks from a place of education and study in a discipline is never to be trusted, ever. What you feel is real must be right.

A lot of my friends and acquaintances are always amazed I can fix anything, and I just look at them, like, "How can you not figure out how to fix this?", I'm not a freaking genius or anything. If I don't understand how it works, I use a couple of small test to try and discover any facts and/or use whatever fundamental knowledge I have to come up with a theory, then test whether the theory is true. 50% of the time it works, and the other half I'm using what I learned on that attempt to come up with a new theory.

Maybe our curiosity is dying off. Too much Real Housewives and Honey BooBoo or something set us back a century or two, mentally?

Haha! You really want your mind blown, try using one of those trailer back up assist knobs. Is it really that hard to back up a trailer?!

When i get my tractor done im gonna get 2 of these and hold reversing competitions. Dunno if any of yall have ever tried to back a 4 wheeled trailer, but they’re a major pita. Two in a row might be impossible.

Yesterday when replacing my friend's brakes,

Me-trying to remove his old rusty rotor. Won't budge. Hitting it harder and harder with my dead blow hammer. "Are you sure you don't have your parking brake on"

    Him-"yeah I'm sure"

5 minutes later- hitting it so hard it's starting to destroy my cheap Harbor Freight hammer and I'm sweating.

Me, running out of ideas "Man you must have more rust than I thought." I give it a few more whacks. "Let's try rotating the rotor. Go put it in neutral"

Friend- goes to the front seat "Oh yeah, the parking brake is on!" As soon as he releases the brake it practically falls off.

I backed up a 4 wheel concrete hopper to a pole light base in a work van. Only took about 30 attempts by myself before someone came out of the church and backed me up.
