I know most of you guys don’t give a shit about surfing, but you may be interested to know, Kelly Skater won the Pipe contest yesterday. 30 years after he won it the first time. It’s a big deal. He’s 50 this week. My buddy spoofs the World Surfing League. This video is hilarious. It’s better if you know the context, but I don’t think it’s necessary.

pot hole that was big bent the front control arm mounts. insurance replaced the frame

now im seriously considering a v8 swapped 2nd gen sitting on a 3rd gen frame..

why? because i have a frame. 4runner v8 mounts should be very close to bolt on... it would be an interesting build. but im talking a few years down the line. i have the space to sit on this frame.

I miss the nice simple memes like these. Now everything is convoluted and has ump-teen different connections and relations that I simply don't care enough to explain the nuance....

You lot went in while I was off all weekend. (working on the 911)

This happens. As a fellow connoisseur of fine memes, I'm sure you've seen the EMusk meme that's been floating about blathering on about getting your goals done in the time you allot, so allot less time and you'll get more done. This totally applies here. You 'leave yourself too much time', so you don't get anything done. Time to start setting time budgets and goals.

Weird AF. Almost always the reverse with seized calipers.

Best way to get through the mental logjam is to start small. I have been going through this since 2007 when I started my first really big build. The 'while you're in theres' build up, or you step back and get a clear picture of how much is in front of you, overthinking sets in, and you freeze. The best/only way I've been able to work through this is to pick something small that you can do in an hour or less and knock that out. You develop some momentum and your head clears. The path literally opens up right in front of you and it's on you to stay on it as long as you can. I have had to do this a lot this winter with the 911. I'm super overwhelmed with the EFI project I'm eyeballs deep in. I don't like to admit it, but I've managed to let this task intimidate me and question my abilities. So I overthink about it...constantly. I dream about it. I talk to friends and coworkers about it. And then when I have time to work on it, I struggle to get started because there's just so much mountain to climb and I'm only one person.
So I pick something small and build off that little victory until I string a few together and make real progress.

    Probably my all-time favorite movie.
I am equally appalled and disappointed that this wasn't common knowledge from just that frame.

I legitimtely can't even read a post like that when there are no paragraphs. My brain shuts down after a few sentences and I lose interest.

Honestly, my first instinct was that it was a test from beyond the grave. Too many almost specifics.

But yeah, that's a fucking shit show of a post. I just have no clue where to start to even offer advice on that.

for the past week we've been dealing with C0 problems in our new rental house. alarms have gone off twice in the middle of the night. such a headache. each time, fire rescue has been really helpful and even isolated the problem. the gas company as well as rental maintenance seem to be working on the issue. we will see I suppose.

Then my wife got covid. she's 35 weeks pregnant and feeling like a balloon. fever is down now, and she's doing great but things were stressful this weekend.

all of this on top of working 14 hours a day on weekdays was starting to get to me...

went to work this morning on 3 hours of sleep and running on fumes. i walked out of the office and the temperature had climbed 30* since this morning. It felt incredible.

Thanks! Yes we have officially settled in as official INRs (Inland Northwest Residents) of ID... we are closer to the Canadian border than we are to any US city larger than 50K people... :) We are in a 6 month rental waiting for Spring for some more real estate inventory to come online, or maybe considering building to suit. Hope to be a bit more active on the board going forward...we'll see what work has to say about that... :D

On another note, what happened to Professional Hand Model?

Same....had a few words typed, then retyped but chose to back away. After $7K and another $900, I'd have to say screw it for a bit, re-group and deal with his shoulder issues. He's got a son, meaning he's at least 40, been dealing with Mech for 27 yrs, you'd think there would be no problem approaching mech and let him have it and in a positive stern way but that is indeed a mess of a deal.

My current job role is effectively tier 3 support in a nutshell. Extracting specific questions/problems and forcing the requestor to organize their thoughts and break a problem into pieces, it's not that unlike parenting. I sometimes wonder if there could be a legitimate college course on this, "how to troubleshoot". Similar to how the book "The Martian" goes into methods used to solve daunting life and death problems without higher level math or extreme specific subject matter detail.

The age of the renaissance is over. Maybe that's one thing the FGT crew has in spades though? All of you seem very capable in several aspects of problem solving.

We certainly like to think so.
And any problem we can't sort ourselves, we can present in a way that helps others understand our particular predicament...and then the braintrust engages hyperdrive and results are generally had.

I like how Tier 3 support from Comcast never have you call them, they only call you and any requests have to go through the regional manager.

Probably the only techs that don't read from a script like the Tier 1s.

Yeah, that's what I was trying to say (not saying it so well though). Presentation of digestible problems facilitates dispensation of assistance. Dumping a mess of incompletely conclusions on someone else to pick apart is sort of like asking someone to make you dinner from roadkill.

Anyway, back to my day job of unraveling road kill digital intestines.

Oh, and I think I might pick up my Tundra today, Jason said he got the leafs on and my Tacoma is in Palm Desert and my wife taking the minivan to the airport so I should probably have some wheels just in case I need to. Then again, the hospital is less than a mile away and the beer fridge is adequately stocked plus the eBike is solid so, hmm...

    Funny Story:

We moved from the SE to the INW (Inland Northwest) in Dec. We sold my wife's 2016 Odyssey before we left the SE with the intention of buying her a 2022 Sienna AWD to deal with the weather up here. Well, I completely underestimated the vehicle shortage for certain vehicles...it takes 6-8 months to get an AWD Sienna around here. Soooo, we started looking at other options. Full disclosure, I have an inherent anti-Chrysler (and therefore Jeep) bias because I was a teenager in the 80s and remember what total POS the K-cars were (Chrysler should have died then)...but I digress. I have several family/friends who have had Jeep products over the last 5 years that they really like and have been reliable. I then recently spent a fair amount of time in a rental Cherokee Limited and Wrangler. Functionally, I was pretty impressed with both of them...which I didn't expect. So when we expanded our scope beyond Toyota's to other 3-Row AWD vehicles, Jeep made the cut.

One of the models that can be had right now is a Grand Cherokee L...and my wife likes the way looks (she rarely comments on vehicles looks...she's not a car person)...so we scheduled a test drive. It get's great reviews and I was expecting to love it. I didn't. It was OK...but I was just expecting a better driving vehicle for $55K. It was great from a tech and occupant environment standpoint, but I was not crazy with the way it drove. It was best described as sluggish handling (3.6 motor was more than adequate, no issues with power). My wife noticed it too but couldn't put it into words, cause she's not a car person...but she liked everything else and thought she would get used to the way it drove compared to her Odyssey. I know better. We went from a 2003 Odyssey to a 2013 Outback that took her 3 years to tell me she preferred her Odyssey, so back we went to an Odyssey in 2016.

Meanwhile, we have two vehicles, neither of which she drives up to this point. My 2006 Tundra (slight lift, see my avatar) and 2000 4Runner 5sp....she doesn't do manual. She has resisted driving my Tundra (she doesn't like "big" vehicles...her Odyssey drove like a compact despite it's cavernous space...loved that vehicle). I convinced her to start driving my Tundra with me in it till she was comfortable to drive it on her own until we found a new car for her. So, about her third time driving my Tundra and less than a week after driving the Jeep Grand Cherokee L (which we had not completely ruled out) she says "why can't that Jeep drive like your Tundra?."

So we won't be getting a Jeep Grand Cherokee L a this point...next best candidate is a 2016+nused GX460...or a new maybe Sequoia if we can hold out long enough...:D
