I'm still able to get 17MPG on road trips if I keep it around 70. That's even with my truck completely full of camping gear/2 people and 2 big dogs. I hit 18.5 once even after going to bigger tires. Driving back from FL earlier this month I only got 14.5 when I was going 80-83MPH. Speed is critical if you want better MPG.

I try to keep the RPMs under 2k all the time and economy is markedly better.
I've been experimenting with 2500rpm shift points to get up to speed more rapidly. Time will tell if that helps or hurts.

That's a good point. I should have said RPM is critical if you want better MPG, especially on the highway. I can get pretty good MPG at 60-65MPH and on some of the interstates and highways around here you don't want to go much faster.

I was running 2800-3k near 60 in 3rd. Good oil pressure, good voltage. No bogging on hills. Only kicked it into 2nd once, but thats a real steep hill if you dont carry speed.

sorry. Throttle cable club. I remember the DBW sequoia being a touchy bastard while towing. I had at least an inch of pedal to modulate with.

Are ‘02’s direct throttle? Is that why my tundra has bigger balls than my Tacoma ?

Is that 2mpg a difference seen on your fuelly app? I’m wondering how close the numbers would be for mpg, logging from gps and logging from the Speedo. I’ve always calc’d from speedo but an app like that seems like it would have to be from gps, right? Unless you had an obd connection in which case you’d need to input the change in tire size. Guess none of this is really relevant to me because I’m about to be back on 35’s, so it’s best not to know actual mpg. I mean, once it’s in the single digits I give up

    edit:
I wrote this then opened the following page that is entirely about the fuelly app.

This kind of makes me want to order my radiator from them when I get one. Especially after all the damage stories for them. Always liked rock auto except the shipping rates.

I think I paid $19 for the belt and alternator because I chose to ship each with a diff't carrier. It was $22 if I opted to ship everything USPS, which I shoulda done. Alternator's logged weight per FedEx was 25lb, I think? Not too bad.

I will say, I got the notification 4 hours ago, they created the shipping bill already to replace it and haven't charged me another cent, expected arrival in 48hrs. It just popped up in FedEx's system 18 minutes ago. They're shipping out of North Carolina this time instead of a diagonal cross-country from Oregon or Washington or whatever, so maybe I'll get this one in one piece.

I did ask if they could change carrier. They said they had to ship via the same carrier. So we'll see.

I'll say, I've never seen faster shipping out of anyone. And never seen anyone let me keep the part like this on anything over $30-40, even if it was totally destroyed there's still stuff inside the case worth $$.

New truck people are tragedies disguised as comedies. My brothers ‘17 douchemax cant keep all the lights working at the same time.

and for the record: not counting people weight, ive hauled heavier loads on my buell than whats been in that truck. He doesnt wanna scuff his bed coating.

I'm been spending more time in the turd gen section. Had a bit of schadenfreude from the turbo issues :D. The guys that trade in their 2020 Tundra's for the 2022 blow my mind. Just a different mindset for some people I guess.

I made some weighty claims before they came out. Some have been validated, and some havent. But, im more confident in my EV projections now.

haters gonna hate, and i will continue to hate everthing built before 1969. Greed and overconfidence cant outperform overbuilding.

Some of my dads co workers have talked themselves into deals where trade-in, maintenence, payment work themselves into net gain. as a company vehicle, For their ‘hobby’. But i guess they arent turning big miles.

Take my word for it: This is the kind of employer you want. Hopefully it's not just a case of 'taking care of the newbie', and the post-honeymoon romance doesn't fade off. I think I mentioned before, I got pneumonia the night before I was supposed to come in for my first day, but after I already signed my hire letter. The front office manager went out of her way to backpedal through insurance, and they hired a temp for 1wk while I recovered. They've definitely always taken care of me, regardless. It's not the norm.

I will say, I may not put a shit-ton of miles on my truck, but I use the damn thing as a truck, whether that means hauling lumber, hauling bulk mulch and fill dirt for the yard and garden, or towing a boat around. I'll never get that mentality, but then this:

I guess it's the 'keeping up with the Jones' mentality, people like that are f'ing brainwashed. I know Apple fanbois who are super-similar. Always gotta have the latest & greatest, even if it's an exceptionally bad investment, a complete waste of coin. Different type of person, I guess. I won't judge, but I damn sure might ugly-snicker quietly, to myself sometimes.

Usually takes me about 15min/headlight to polish. After that it's just a matter of wiping on the 3M clear, and recoat within the timeframe in the instructions (10min?) if you like.

For your 1st time, I'd set aside about 30-45min/headlight, take your time, tape everything off, spend more time at each grit, and use an orbital power tool if you have.

My first ever headlight polish job, haphazardly slopping things together vs. using a kit, I had done in 90mins or less.

I suspect you can do it faster, but always prefer to overshoot by 50% the 1st time, and that's what I'm factoring in here.
