No you're probably right. I'm wanting an all terrain on the milder side but the issue is that there are only 4-5 made in that size, 225/65/17. The Falken Wildpeak is another option.

Stealer manager called this morning and straight up says they will attempt a 3rd repair at no charge, but this will be the last time. They will be:

    1) Removing Old inner retainer ring and axle seal

    2) Replacing with New Toy retainer and axle seal.

    3) Replacing old oil soaked shoes with Toyotas (they earlier replaced my rebuilt OEM $80 Japanese Altroms with NAPA $23 cheapies).

    4) Putting on my paper hub gasket and star adjuster inspection cap of which was forgotten on the last round. :D

    5) Doing everything at no charge.

Moving/planning forward on being present during repair operations just in case I have to tackle this one on my own. They still want $1500 to do it with TOY parts/labor on next go around.

Told them about the magic marker on retainer test. Will re-explain on repair day.

I’m still surprised mine hasn’t leaked. The retAiner poped on the last press and went to the max depth because of it. I just keep an eye on it.. nothing yet in 4K kiles

I’d love to be surprised like that! Stealer Manager stood his ground on all NAPA parts and the axle are most likely the problem. NAPA says their parts are made to spec and never have returns.

What parts were Napa? I don’t think the retainer is even available aftermarket. A lot of places try reusing it. Which sometimes works, most
Of the time ends in leaks

Yup. I bought a new one axle when I replaced my bent one.

$500 later I had new axle, backing plate, bearing... everything

@empty_lord thinking about changing my pcv valve, the thingy thing in the middle of it still rattles around and moves up and down.. would it be pointless to replace it then?

If it’s still moving it’s technically working. But it could be clogged up but not seized too. Really up to you, they’re cheap enough I replaced mine when I did the t belt

This area needs some TLC. Maybe something like Ospho followed by white spray paint?

that frame is for the green 2001 tacoma i have. my first vehicle. I bought the frame new 2 years ago. was going to get it done last year, but a tundra happened. right now im getting the spare engine cleaned up and re sealed (and the trans too) to put in the 01 which is currently on its other frame (i repaired damage caused by the idiot that installed the frame in 2012.. the reason i bought a new frame was because of multiple issues with the one he managed to mangle.)

goal is to have the new frame for the 01 full assembled, with engine, trans, exhaust, suspension ETC, Just wait for the body to be married to it. Its driving into the body shop to get FULL body work (im talking underneath, under hood, rust repair, ETC) and it'll be leaving on a new chassis with a BUILT 3.4l supercharged, a Built a340F, Whole new suspension, cleaned up diffs and 4 wheel Disk brakes. The old frames then going to wait for a new body and bed to build into an offroad toy.. It'll be ready to run with the power train im putting in it. i have the whole engine harness and ECU from a 97 4runner to make the other frame a plug and play setup for w/e i can find body wise

Got the head off the 97 4runner engine. At 252k she’s got some sludge, but internal wise the motor looks really healthy. So passenger side head will be in the parts washer to get as clean as I can get it, then stripped to replace all the valve seals. Camry cams will go in and I’ll set clearance all set. May even put shingles buckets in for less valve train mass

No on the Ospho due to there already been a sound paint job. Ospho ruins already painted surfaces. I’d clean up the rust dust with a rag. Sand the general area and wipe it again. Spray the black rusty metal primer and then spray a few coats of Bedliner (or your white match rattle can) over those.

I used the Bedliner Black when I did this area and it looks good. I put a few layers of Butyl Liner on the frame, backside of the battery tray, and top side of tray before install battery for vibration resistance and padding.

Wow. 252k and you can still see the bore hash marks (I think that's what they're called). Its funny how old school SBC people will get ahold of these trucks or the 3.0 yamaha in the SHO and ask about full rebuilds, including boring and oversized bearings to turn the crank, just to realize how well built Japanese engines really are.

Michelin makes the Defender LTX in that size. Not the most impressive looking tire but gets great traction and wears like iron. Discount Tire is running some rebates right now.

That is a great tire, but @FirstGenVol had a bad experience as a child with this tire company and he doesn’t like them. The Michelin Man Image has messed him up after watching Barney all those years. Everyone else, including myself, love this brand. :D

When I buy a 70-80K mile top dollar tire I expect them to last longer than 40K. :notsure: Right now the tires on it are the Defender T+H with an 80K mile warranty. They are starting to dry rot at 40K miles, with 5/32".
In fairness, I know the Defender LTX is supposed to be a great tire. I might consider it for her car. I just like the way all terrain tires look on SUV's and trucks.
