They have a dispenser at my work where i can grab 10 at a time to use there or elsewhere. I usually have one available in my jacket pocket or truck glove box.

    MF. Ain't this a bitch.

While investigating my oil leaks, saw something off. Bronze bracket holding the alternator harness freefloating. I snapped a pic of it, only to notice my trustworthy shop installed a 100A reman alt instead of the 140A my truck is supposed to have. DAMMIT.

I planned to replace serp belt soon, guess I'll be dropping in a 140A alt while at it, re-selling the 100A with only 2-3k miles on it.

Trying not to be all, like, "This is what I get for letting other ppl touch my truck", but man. I was in a tight spot and couldn't manage it due to work travel. They've never let me down in the past, always use Denso at my request. I told them 140A back when it was done, too. Shocked they didn't call about the serp needing change, but I'm just as guilty there.

It feels like this harness bracket just takes a single bolt and mounts to a threaded boss under the alt chassis.

Damn here I thought the tow pkg came with a 140A and it's actually a 130A. Wonder where I got that silly notion.

I'm tempted to go 150A but I'm too lazy to re-do my power and ground to 2/0 cables. Guess I'll go 130A.

Hot damn. Fingers crossed, RA said they had 1 of the 130A left, hoping I managed to snatch it up.

Oh, and in case anyone ever finds this damn post and wants to know what the brass colored alternator harness bracket is, and what size and thread or part number the bolt is ... after 45 minutes of digging I finally freaking found it. Had to look through grids upon grids of brackets. My eyes hurt.

    upload_2022-1-9_0-2-26.jpg

Part number of the bolt is 90080-11380 and the actual bracket itself is 82715-0C040. Looking up the bracket gives a diagram of the other pieces related.

That part number is for this DOH! bracket and the bolt to attach it to the alt

I’ll have to talk to some diff guys, but this paints a picture for me. I think I’m moving away from arb air on this truck - it’s not made for it. I’ll let you guess where I’m leaning.

I have a great shop that changes a fair premium. But, on a couple of occasions I have found sub par attention to detail. And, as I become more advised by the likes of you guys, I don’t always agree with their recommendations or choice of parts. I’m doing all the work I can now. Nobody will care as much as me.

I mean, I'm definitely with you on this one, but there's certain stuff I'd just prefer to not feck with, either because I'm lazy, overloaded, or I'd prefer to have someone else liable for the work.

I've got two nearby options. One is 'old reliable' which is really competent, but you wouldn't know it based on their prices, mostly low because they don't concatenate service hours, the more you add, the cheaper it gets. The other is a few miles down the road and is a collective of veteran Toyo mechs who charge half the stealership price, and they'll give you some flexibility on part options (reman vs. new, Aisin vs. OEM, etc.) which is where I'd go for anything deep internal.

I ended up ordering a reman Denso 130A, I wasn't willing to to tackle anything more and was a bit confused whether I'd need to also update the 140A fuse, but I need to get the serpentine done sooner than later, so ... Besides, I've already got too many projects stacked up at the moment to focus on.

I may tackle 130A->150A at a later date, I'll be keeping eyes out for a used Squaw alt to refurb in the meantime. All the best deals come when you don't need it NOW.

I'm the same, believe me. But after some lazy get past most ball drops, I'm doing my best to minimize the work I allow others to do.

i dunno if anyone remembers when i got those coil springs, and mentioned wanting to build a log splitter, but the fat bottom leafs would make a great splitting blade.

wide load permits are $270/year. Luckily the 1gt AC can fit a bumper car ring in a lane.

as you can see i lost the spark building the path to nowhere. But its that time of the year where its good to promote blood flow to the arms and fingers, so maybe i’ll try again.

@shifty` , I’ll ask Jason next time I’m there but I think the sequoia alternator bolts right in. Maybe the ear has to be cut off though.

Connector-wise it was 5 minutes. I may even have a spare 3 position male from my adapter / booster once I get it converted.

I think it's a direct bolt-up on the 05-06. Connector is same also. If RockAuto can't fulfill on the 130A, I'll take it as a sign I should go 150A. But I'm still thinking about having a 150A alternator feeding into a 140A fuse inside the engine bay fuse/relay box. Not like I expect to be able to fully pull 141a+ load off the alt, like, ever, but I'm a stickler that way, I guess.

I was gonna swap the sequoias alt, but i’d have had to start from nothing, since both trucks needed to run. And as long as i dont have a winch i doubt i’ll use more than i have. Especially when i hang a ‘house’ marine battery in the frame and trickle charge it with solar.

I have a two spare fuses and I’m currently running a 120 from Napa. After I toasted the stock one. All is fine for me.

Though I guess my fuses are 140’s.

I am ok with the delta here.

I bought bulk loom, shrink wrap (3:1 adhesive) wire, terminals, etc. so much easier to just get going when you have it on hand…

Huh I was actually thinking about just that earlier. I was probing out the 3-wire connector for the overhead console to see what's there and build a similar adapter. The wiring was really interesting. I was hoping I'd find one ACC power, one always-hot, and ground. What I found was:

White w/black stripe: Standard ground, same color wire used all over.
Blue w/yellow stripe: Always hot 12v.
Black w/white stripe: Always hot 4.8v .. wait, 4.8v? It went to the dome light toggle switch. "Ah! Door light trigger." Open the door... 12v! Huh.

If I would've just gotten a damn mirror without a compass, it'd be a no-brainer, only need 12v constant and ground, and I could easily build a jumper adapter to cleanly break off. Meh. I think I'll just pop off the A-pillar and start probing around. Surely there must be a damn ACC power wire?

I'm too exhausted of digging in parts manuals to try and figure out wtf this connector is. Anyone happen to know off the top of their head?

I may have ordered some of those yesterday. Remind me for a photo when they arrive. Yazaki 090IIU only has 2 and 5. I think those are sumitomo since I did find sumi 3’s but not sure how many variations on the slots there may be.

I have one which I think is very similar in my chmsl.

but you can de-pin and re-pin to any 090 connector pair with at least that many positions. That’s what I did with the chmsl.
