I just put up a shady structure. But i fixed the dead chunk of lights.
    AE795731-13A7-4925-A3CB-937C21BB2E67.jpg
was tricky threading it in by myself, and ive got the limb straps and 1/4” cable to hang it better, but in order to hang lights on it for xmas (rest of my life) its still held up with a web of paracord.

You and me both brother. I didn’t mind my place too much until they decided to develop just one extra street behind me. Now I can’t even enjoy being out back without my new neighbor staring at me. Plus he smokes and is on that patio more than he’s inside. I Jerry rigged up an extra 2’ of lattice and I’m trying to get stuff to grow but that’s a slow process.

Ignore the 2x brace. Wind did a number on that fence post.

I'm at a half an acre. I wanted 10 to 20 times that with 1/2 the house I got.
Wife is happy, so I try to not bitch too much.

This is what I wanted to put on the big piece of land I didn't get to buy. A 30x40 (or 40x60) with a two-post lift would make my life so much better.
Alas there is absolutely no way to squeeze anything that big onto the lot I have right now. I could potentially shoehorn a 30x30 in the NE corner...but I'd have to cut down a 200yo tree and excavate 3' of soil to get to driveway grade...and get too close to the property lines. Plus it'd fuck up the view from my neighbor's very fancy back patio.

Wisteria grows faster than any vine I've ever seen and it flowers. And (But?) it's damn near impossible to kill.
Ivy (think Wrigley Field) can be done, but will take some time to get that full coverage. I'd google Wrigley Field Ivy to find out the particular variety they use. It does great in full sun and they don't have to replant every spring.

I've got the land, but refuse to finance a shop. So here I sit, saving my pennies.

Price of my shop was less than the price of the slab. And i did my own groundwork. Held the ladders and handed tools while i babysat the builders.

I'd love to kill people who plant the Asian variety, and running bamboo. Between that, kudzu, and the various ivies out there, I probably spend about 100hrs/year fighting with those. There's a native non-invasive version of Wisteria, but everyone plants the Asian variety. It's choking out all the damn trees down here, you can see the pops of purple throughout the trees in spring. I have trees in my yard with corkscrew-shaped branches because of it.

Bamboo... running bamboo, not the clumping kind, should be illegal to sell of propagate in the US. My friend lost his entire backyard because some asshole sharing a property line thought it would look nice planted around his pool, but didn't concrete it in. The last 15 years, it's run underground and taken over 8 adjacent neighbor's backyards and run its way down their back creek, making the creek totally inaccessible. It's so far gone at this point, it'd be impossible to clear.

A couple of fishing holes I frequent have suffered the same fate. And I see random stands of it on the side of the road driving around GA and AL, and I'm just ... it's frustrating there's no legal penalty for that shit. A nursery may make 2-3 dollars on a single plant, and in a year, that single plant can cause 10s of thousands of dollars of damage, ruin property values, it's absurd.

And Ivy, when not put in check, will take down hundred-years-old trees. Worst thing you can let it do is attach to the bark of anything you care about. There are some varieties of ivy better than others, but all can be fairly invasive. Any ivy that produces berries fruit is a huge problem and shouldn't be planted.

I'm thinking about building it in stages. Might take a few years but better than financing. How big did you go?

40x60x15. $60k overall before electrical. I’ve doodled up plans for the tool room/apartment (mainly for ‘attic’ space) but i seem to have run out of talent while wiring… i’ll pick it back up eventually, but 4 extension cords are working like a champ.

After she gets ready to get in, giv’er the peniscillin and change her mind. Hottubs and public pools are gross. And i dont like that much chlorine. In fact, grandpa uses borax, and i can comfortable wear my glasses and open my eyes underwater.

Keep the load down on those cords, wouldn't want to hear about a shop fire.

    motivation.
I got power run from the breaker on the pole, to a breaker box inside and have 2 4-plug on a circuit on the west wall, and a 220 circuit run to the east wall. I used to do alot of conduit, and am good at it, and like the ‘look’ but big eff its hard to do alone. At the job we’d have 2-3 guys pulling.

faking it while making it. The old POA was looking for permits and everything, but my property is grandfathered, so i do my best to do it right.

Thats way up there. I think the whataburger in waxahatchi is nascar themed with racecar parts hanging from the walls and framed articles. When i go to little sahara i like to stop there for burgers.

Nah, that’s from this spring. I’ve just been avoiding digging the old post out.

I actually got home before dark last night and noticed that Wednesdays winds blew several shingles off the front of my house. So yeah, Wednesday was rowdy.

Dropped that corolla off at the new tire store. Wish it was discount tire, but it ain't.

Went to the marathon so momma could piss. Went under the canopy to smoke and watched a child custody exchange take place. Over heard some of it. Sounded heated. Woman berating the man for being one minute late to the agreed time. Total bitch.

Kids are no more than 6 years old. Two of em.

    Sad.

@Sirfive Jealous of your place!! 60x40 is a great size, and looks like you were able to swing spray foam insulation. I was about to build one behind my house, and the HOA changed its rules in November. Now the Eave can only be 11ft tall or less, the building can only be 1100 square feet max, you can only use architectural garage doors (no rollups), and 30% masonry on the exterior. Dream crusher.
