Truly amazing how bad the stock lights are on the tundra. I really should have done that work today but I got sucked into real job stuff. I could really go for a full day of truck time.

Ok, so maybe we're not so different. I might have you by a year on 1st body, but been dealing with dead relatives I've loved since age 9. Don't wish that shit on anyone, so ... sorry you've had to deal with it. The detaching shit is awesome to help cope with life. Just don't let it fuck up relationships which would help you break it down, like I spent all of my 20s and part of my 30s doing.

Always LG. Hands-down. Never Samsung, their best competitor and never Vizio due to reliability issues, although they're 3rd in line.

If you want a soundbar that will blow your f'n mind, get the Sonos Beam. You'll mistakenly think you have a $3,000 surround system in your home. I'm not exaggerating. I'm an audio snob and I couldn't believe it until I helped one of my MIL's friends install one at her house. Holy. Shit.

Will insurance typically pay for that or is it out of the customer's pocket? I should really look into that next time round.

And now for something completely different.

If you've been hunting for a rear view mirror that has compass, Homelink 5, and autodim, here's a killer deal at about 30% off: https://www.ebay.com/itm/402592897155

While I have a hidden compass Gentex that's got Homelink 3, an the picture is clear as hell, I opted to buy one. I like the ide of saving $50-60. Will see how that goes.

I’m not a huge fan of those. The auto dim doesn’t cover the frameless part of the glass, which means it glares.

I want to get my hands on one of the newer $2200 Toyota ones that are 100% screen in night mode tied to a camera and auto dimming when switched off

I'm sorry that you've been dealing with it.... too? Gah. I thought I was weird in high school. The parents always told me I was "jaded at an early age." After the ice storm. Shortly after the ice storm mamaw died. Then grandma dot. Then grandpa buzzard. Then auntie hilda-may. Few years of non people death. Just animals. Wasn't real sure how to deal with it so I just kinda didn't. I never really felt much. Never really cared much. Just kinda blowing around like the feather from Forrest gump.

My first relationship was after I'd found my first body and in the midst of all the death mentioned above. I Believe it was tween dot and buzz dying. Taylor. I didn't know what love was, and hadn't a clue what I was feeling at the time. At the time it was a match made in heaven. Me being a dumbass and wanting to be a marine biologist in land locked KY, and her wanting to be an animal care taker in a zoo. We spent a few years together as neighbors. Hung out everyday. My feelings grew everyday. Swam. Fished. Caught snakes and turtles. Rode bicyles. Climbed trees. Snowball fights. Etc. You name it, and we probably did it. Except the nasty. We were innocent. We had no idea what that was for people but knew full well what it was for dogs and other animals. Lol

Anyways, they moved away and I mourned my loss for a while. Didn't really know what I was feeling, but boy was I feeling it hard.

Fast forward through three meaningless relationships I couldn't have cared less about and then there was my greatest love. My best friend of six years before we got together. It seemed perfect. I was happy, and involved fully in this one. My dream for us was the house at the end of the road we were on with the picket fence, and the kids running around us in the yard. Typical American dream. That all cane to a screeching halt when she ripped my heart out. She wanted her Cous-band over a husband I guess.

Anyways, that was the last straw for me. I had resigned into the thinking that it was all over for me. Now that I had lost my love, that was it. I could not go on. A month later I had plans to eliminate myself as a future problem for myself, but fate had other ideas...

Work picked up, and I was needed. I found purpose in my work. Then I started posting on this forum more often. Much to the dismay of the active members before the corona. Always waking up to my ramblings.

Nowadays, I really don't feel. Roxie, and juggy. I saw it as simply unfortunate while I pretended I cared enough to console my family. I've learned to hide in plain sight, but I have no idea how to start new relationships with others. The way I see things, they either happen or they don't. The way I live my life usually means the latter is the case.

I mean, you look at this picture of roxie, and you tell me how it makes you feel. I'll tell you my first thought when I saw her laying there in the debris. "Sucks to be her." I didn't really "feel" it. I just saw it as another task to complete.
    20211211_094157.jpg 20211211_094230.jpg

I don't know what I need to "fix" me, but I know it's not as "simple" as a timing belt on our trucks. That's easy. One more bolt. One more torque spec. One more new part.

How do you get a new soul?

As others have said, try not to hold it all in. You need an outlet, whether that is talking it out, writing it down, or just taking a solo camping trip and letting yourself think for a few days.

I had a real rough few years starting in 2017 and (for the most part) have held it all to myself. If anything, it’s made me bitter, cynical and I’ve lost the ability to see humor in most things. It’s like I’m always expecting to have to be serious at a moments notice.

I tried some 1 on 1 counseling for a bit which seemed to help get a little wind back in my sails. It was free through a local church so that might be something to look into.

One of the best pieces of advice that I’ve ever been given is to always have something to look forward to.

A road trip next month, seeing extended family over Christmas, setting some kind of goal for yourself, hell… even the Amazon package that may be showing up on Friday. Always have something that you are semi excited about. All those little victories sub consciously add up and tend to keep you motivated.

So I did another quote in town and it gave me $260. I checked again on the SHO. My dumbass ass used the SHO first. $630 for a 30 year old taurus. Ouch.

I've never understood sound bars. They just don't put out enough for boom and don't give true surround. My dad sent me his old paradigm ps1000 the other day. Bass for days. I'm just old school and like my 5.1 setup with a surround sound amp. No satellite bose systems either. Full size. Intrusive even. Gimme the big shit.

I've actually never had any issues with TVs. The soundbar is mostly just for dialogue in movies, drives me bananas that they assume everyone has surround sound and you can't hear it half the time without additional speakers.

Whoops on the windshield. At least you figured it out before you ordered it and they showed up with the wrong one.

I've got an old KLH sub plugged into the soundbar, adds enough to make it sound better but I'm far from an audiophile.

You don't get a new soul, you nurse the one you've got back to health. And that hurts sometimes, so a lot of people don't bother. Sadly, just like financial literacy, none of us are shown or taught how to do stuff like that unless you go off to higher education to learn it, specifically. It's not something 99% of the population can do on their own. Vast majority of those folks don't even acknowledge there's a problem, so you've got a leg up on those folks.

NGL, my family is f'd up. They legitimately believe it's "weak" to see someone for counseling. Some of my cousins really need it, but are worried they're going to land on some secret gov't list where they'll lose their 2A rights, which is bullshit (well, maybe not for 1 of them, he's going to land on the news in the next decade, sad as it is to say).

For me, I landed in an unusual situation in my early 20s where I had open access to counseling that wasn't the 'on the couch' style, and I was far enough away from home I could quietly manage. Gestalt therapy. More interactive, nothing like talking to a judge from a couch or bench. Not head-shrinky shit. Really helped me unpack the baggage I'd been lugging around after my idol, my older brother, took his own life as I was reaching my teen years, and a lot of death and loss in the years prior, all the shit I went through as a late teen. 12 sessions, twice a month, turned the gorilla on my back into a monkey. YMMV.

I'll be honest with you though, when I look at both dogs on both posts, my first thought was, "Man that would suck if it was Coco" (my plott hound). Then "Why the hell anyone lives in a place where shit like this happens semi-regularly is beyond me". Then nothing. Maybe no amount of therapy is going to make you learn to "feel". Or maybe I jumped out too early. I dealt with all the death and loss shit I went through from 8-22yo.

Anyway, you do you. I originally dealt with my problems by sinking into work. That's good to get past initial shock, but at some point, it catches up to you. It did for me, at least.

You and I are both audio guys. You know this. You know my flavor. While I'm not spending a fortune on 7.1 speakers unless I built a theatre in my house, I'm shocked at how explosive and room-filling the low-end is on the Sonos Beam. I felt like you, "those things are garbage, never gonna measure up to a full system and NO BASS in something that tiny!". Then I helped someone install one and heard it. Ho. Lee. Shit. Mindboggling. I cannot udnerstand how Sonos packs all that thump into the bar. Explosions are insane. My next door neighbor is a huge audiophile, $15k easy in his setup. He didn't know what I had. Came over to check out my new LG OLED last year, didn't know I pulled my old setup. Let's just say he asked a lot of questions. Couldn't believe what he was hearing when I opened my entertainment center and showed him what was in there. "One speaker?! A bar?!" :D

We have an LG OLED TV that's got a fantastic picture...but underwhelming sound. Even when I installed the (too expensive) LG soundbar and sub, I wasn't impressed.
So I bought a Marantz receiver and plugged that ho into some old Polk RT800 towers I had from my time at Circuit City. The receiver is a little underpowered for the speakers, but the sound is much better and the sound-staging is infinitely better.
Best thing I can advise is to but what you really want one piece at a time until you get where you want to be. Don't short yourself a great picture over a couple hundred bucks if you can wait a little bit and get what you really want. Same thing for audio. Be patient. It'll pay dividends when it all comes together.

Plus audio equipment (good stuff anyway) will last forever as long as it's not abused. My last [flatscreen] TV made it over 10 years. I expect this one to do the same.

Except cone surrounds. Especially if foams. They have a knack for disintegrating. That's the fate my CV towers met years back. Re-foaming sucked, but was worth it.

Foam surrounds has always been a dead giveaway that the speaker manufacturer is cutting corners to make a price point.
At the risk of sounding like a jerk, I wouldn't lump any speaker with a foam surround into the category of 'good'.
Consider how much easier it is for the cone to move with something supple like thin rubber compared to foam. Then consider how much better rubber ages than foam. The difference can be staggering.

Totally valid. There were some rubbers that also sucked pretty bad when they were just getting the hang of butyl bitd though. And I remember having some of the woven-coated-fabric surrounds go out with age on a pair of Technics I had from the 80s, when cheapening of components and outsourcing to TW exploded.

All valid points for foam vs. rubber except that foam provides more stability for the speaker cone during excursion. Best, warmest, most realistic sound is paper cones and foam surrounds. If you live in a bubble. Environmental factors and aging mean that poly and metal drivers are the norm for cones and rubber for surrounds as they are more durable. In a car audio environment, especially when driving down the road with all of the ambient noise present, you likely won't hear the difference between the construction materials. Nothing sounded quite like some Vega 15's. But my Vega cabinets at home have red dust accumulating in front of them from the foam deteriorating.

I have some bookshelf speakers in the garage that are on the razor's edge of 50 years old. The rubber surrounds on them are still in great condition. I just make sure to play them periodically to exercise them and keep the front covers on them. Otherwise, they've received no special care in all their many years of service.

You're a good dude Noah, all the regulars here know it. Biggest thing I could say is don't be too hard on yourself, for feeling soulless. I'm pretty jaded too, been through a lot of fucked up stuff.
Sucks for those dogs but I had the same reaction as you to the spoilers.
Keep pushing on man, we're here for ya.
