Now that I know a position has been offered, I have questions about how raises work with this new company, how to roll over my 401K to their stuff... etc.

Mind is buzzing with activity. Need to be asleep.

Kinda curious if they will be lenient on my start date. I could use a week or two get my things in order at the house. Such as my booster upgrade on the V6, oiling the frame on crackie. Lubing the rest of the corollas window tracks...........
    e360da3913d4885e35ff3668fe7339417d148a7f9d0aa808f6700b06002a0118_1.jpg.jpg

Any advice on how to bring that up? I'm sure they will ask for a start date. Would that show up red flags for a potential hire?

I can make my schedule work in the next two-three weeks if they won't be lenient. Finding the time to do all that in the cold though....

    (see signature for truck info)
First advice: Write down your questions. You can call and ask later, when you're not in a frenzy. Don't rush, more questions may come after a nap. Don't think you can do 401k stuff until you've accepted the offer, maybe that can wait until after signature? You'd want to discuss with whoever their 401k plan manager is.

Start date is a start date. You tell them when you're available to start. Factor in what you can afford without leaving them hanging. 1st decision to make it: How much time will you give your current employer? 1 week? 2 weeks? If 1 week, you can take a week break and start in 2 weeks at the new gig, 2 weeks is par for the course.

Consider there's a lot of people quitting with 1 day notice lately, fed up. With that in mind, one could argue any amount of time to your current employer is gracious, but the "expected" decades-long standard is 2 weeks notice, usually to allow cross-train and/or backfilling your role.

My opinion is, if no critical knowledge transfer required, or there are others to share that info, and they won't be left strapped needing to backfill for you, 1 week is probably fine. If they've completely screwed you over / haven't shown concern for you, think about yourself here, b/c they've proven they're not thinking about you.

Last thing I'll say is, I don't like burning bridges. If you ever think someone may need to call your old employer for reference, be smart here. HOWEVER, don't let them take advantage of you, and don't give them more than you personally feel is reasonable.

You'll want to put in your notice not long after signing the offer letter, after you decide how much time you're willing to give your current employer.

Expect your current employer may attempt to counter-offer. Usually it's too-little, too-late.

You don't necessarily have to do anything right away. My best advice would be to ask around and meet with a few financial planners, it may seem unnecessary but it's something I wish I'd have done earlier.

    Congrats man!
When they ask when you can start, tell them when you want to and ask if that'll work for them. Also, no need to go into detail about why you can't start in 2 weeks.
I don't see any red flags with that, I don't think everyone starts 2 weeks after a job offer.

Probably a regional facility, I get the same thing here. No matter where packages are coming from they get routed through New Stanton, PA then to the local distribution center.

If I wanted to send a letter to my neighbor, it gets sent up to Phoenix to get processed and then shipped back down to be distributed, it’s super stupid

My next guitar acquisition will be a used left handed PRS SE (once I can find one locally to try out).

Yup same here. Everything goes to Pittsburgh which is about 2 hours south of me, then back since they closed the processing center in Erie.

Yeah they didn’t close our process facility but quit processing regular mail or something, but I keep reading that it will finally close sometime soon.

I wonder of a left handed guitar store is a good idea. I rarely see any lefty guitars at shops.

Reminds me of my brothers neighbor. He carves and builds tiki statues for a living. He lives across the street from a nursery in Riverside. A few years back he found out the nursery across the street sells his tiki statues, but he never sold any to them. He figured out a guy who he sells them to in Orange County has been selling them to the nursery.

He offered them a direct sale at a much lower price, delivery included (across the street) and they declined. They only buy from the guy in OC.

There's actually a store in NH called the "Manchester Music Mill" that gets left handed overstock and closeout guitars regularly which I check upon. Its where I picked up my 2013 Gibson Les Paul Studio in brand new condition. Also I check used guitars at Guitar Center as well. I'm only out on shipping cost to send it to my local store.

I get that they need to funnel orders into (and out of) regional centers and smaller trucks ferry parts to/from homes/businesses from there.
But FFS, they make a proper meal out of shipping stuff within regions.

Anything I send within my suburb goes to Indy for sorting before coming back and then going to its destination. It's absurd. (Yes, I mean even the bits dropped in the LOCAL MAIL slot.)

New employer wants me to start ASAP, and asked if I would put in my two weeks tonight.

Was hoping for at least three weeks, but guess my time at this place grows shorter than I thought.

Tell them you need 3 weeks because of vehicle damage from deer. Then take it. Employers always ask for immediate start. This is the only time you can get clean time off with no strings. Take it. Unless you really want the salary.

And by take it I mean the extra week with no job. Or two. They will wait for you. They just want to lock in the deal. Heck, start 12/20, just in time for the holidays.
