I dunno. possible the banned person didn't know either, but I don't know their history. You can always PM the mod(s) involved to ask, the mods here seem to be generally rational compared to other forums.

First time I'd ever heard it used was two guys making fun of a third guy in dad's squadron, for kissing ass with the boss (USN, 1970s era). In my teen days, the punk rock crowd used it to poke fun at "conformists". Until that thread, I wasn't aware it was so LE-derogatory. I'd seen it tossed around on Reddit over the last few years, so maybe it's a recent reinvention? I had to dig around (thanks to that thread) before I realized it had a severity I wasn't aware of.

I'd made a similar mistake about 15 years ago. Neighborhood had an email group at the time and I was deep into public safety for the community at the time. We were talking about some younger punks running around raising hell and I said something like, "leave them young bucks alone, they're just having fun". One guy got super freaking pissed, to the point of threatening to curb check me in the street and leaving me for dead.

Now, mind you, I grew up in the south my whole life, I have and will always have a rainbow spectrum of very close friends that may as well be family, with how close we are. I'd never heard the nickname for a young male deer used as a racist term, but it really lit that guy's fuse because he firmly believed I was being a racist SOB.

I guess at the end of the day, "it is what it is".

I have a campfire story about a specific jurisdiction hassling me on a family level, but every police interaction ive had elsewhere is prudent, justified, and generally pretty lenient. And for the extra 10-15mph they allow me for being on a motorcycle, i will help them anytime they need it. Ive never needed them, but i hope they’re available if my grandparents need em.

There was chatter on the same email list after that came up, people really wanting to understand so they don't accidentally make the same mistake, holding my same belief. Apparently, one of the folks from India on our list mentioned it's commonly used similarly where she's from. to describe virile young men.

This and this were linked as possible explanations (yes, I still have the email in question). Someone who lived across the street from the guy went over to talk to him about it, and he referenced the latter of those two, which surprised me, I expected it would be the first.

At the end of the day, you can't argue with the meaning some people place on words. I know people willing to go down in a blaze of glory over something like that, even when they realize they're wrong, even if nothing more than to save face by sticking to their beliefs.

If anybody has the stock coils off their 2WD access cab and would measure the free length and post it up at their convenience or knows what the free length is off the top of their head I'd appreciate it.

Is moon most the tan interior? I think mines tan. I know earlier models had brownish tan. Mines like a greyish tan

I mean, food in Hawaii is either fancy and super expensive or cheap (ish) and local / authentic. Stortos in Haleiwa is in the later category. Kua Aina used to be too. Seems most of these spots get some brand recognition established and then open up in Waikiki to make real money selling to tourists. Which is sort of a completely different vibe. I can’t blame them but it’s not really the same experience even if it’s the same food.

Part of the fun of Matsumotos shave ice a few decades ago was eating it outside on the bench in the heat next to the gravel parking lot. You can still have that moment in Haleiwa today, which is one of the timeless parts, but the whole place is way different, busy, more shops, way more people. Lots of tourists.

Just stay away from chains and you’re likely to find something fun. If you’re starving at breakfast time in Waikiki and don’t want to wait for the silly line at eggs n things, MAC 24/7 is a spot I’ve always enjoyed. For dinner, a short cab to Uncle Bo’s might be worthwhile (classmate of mine opened it a few years ago) but that’s Kapahulu and outside Waikiki walking distance. I also like “da spot” for bagels but that’s the other direction (Eva vs Diamond Head is how you navigate) towards downtown. And speaking of downtown, little village is pretty legit if you’re game for a Chinatown experience.

Most of the stuff in Waikiki is just priced about 2x what it is worth so residents only go for specific reasons. Example, I love Kanekapila grille but the food is not at all special, only the music. I also like side street inn, but to someone unfamiliar with local flavors I’d hesitate to call it “good”.

Honestly, if you’re interested in a more local experience food-wise, you can ask just about anyone who works at any of the hotels in Waikiki what they like. Insider info is freely shared, just that most tourists aren’t really looking for authenticity, hence the survival of Germaines luau.

3.50-3.75 in flag and I got 3.19 in Sedona
I definitely spent some money on gas, but it was well worth it for the 800+ mile adventure
