Caught a deer with my passenger blinker in new braunfels. I saw it coming, swerved and 2 footed the brakes, but she was determined. Luckily, it happened in town and i was hauling a 4 wheeler. The bumper was pushed into the tire, but i managed to pull into a parking lot with a concrete filled pole, and use a ratchet strap to pull the bumper off the tire. Bumper, blinker and fender need to be replaced for sure.

Yeah, it's that time if the year in many parts of the country. Hope you're OK too. Glad we don't have animals like that to deal with in the desert.

Im fine, ive been driving around pasadena all day, and nothings rubbing. Sad to say this is a blessing in disguise. Ive been wanting a plate bumper forever, and now ive got an excuse. Gonna call reunel on monday and see if they still sell the front bumpers. But i might get some extra plate and build up one of those bumper kits. Im just glad i didnt bring my dog on this trip, because he likes to ride in the middle of the back seat and when i stomped the brakes id have thrown him through the dash.

Someone hit and run my wife and daughter in a parking lot today. Fortunately not a ton of damage, but this information came to me after I went under the sink and realized the goddamn Insinkerator Badger is leaking out the bottom, so I'll be replacing that tomorrow. Sadly, under-cabinet is tossed. This is the 3rd Badger I've installed under the main sink in 20 years.

Is there really no protection someone makes for the inevitable leaky disposal, like a water catch with dead switch or water sensor integrated? This crap is tiring...

    Anyway, onto other stuff.

Hell yes! Share pics when you get it. Curious if it's a 'vert and how much rot it may have.

Clean work!! I need a subpanel on the shop side of my basement. I've been sitting on it for a few years but it needs to happen eventually....

I just picked up a Weathertech(yes, the auto parts company) mat that goes under your kitchen sink. It fit perfectly and they claim it can hold up to a gallon of water.

Sold the '03 Tundra A/C to my mechanic on Monday. Been some adjusting to the '02 Taco this week. Tried to use the bump start feature a few times which doesn't work on a Taco - 'cause it aint got it.
Went grocery shopping tonight, came out with 4 bags of gatherings. Never even gave it a thought - but those 4 bags filled the seat & floor of my regular cab Taco. The Tundra a/c back seat is just right for groceries. Long ago I had the largest truck at work when I had the F250 crew cab w/ 8' bed. No more.
    IMG_20210922_213027345_LI.jpg
Taco has been slipping & sliding. The Cooper Discoverer H/T tires were on it when I got it .... 5? years ago. They look new but are hard with no grip at all. Took the Taco to get the rear shocks (Bilstein 4600's) installed this am & saw the Tundra with dealer plates on it (I knew he liked that truck - bet he keeps it). Anyway, took a snap of the tires on "my Tundra" cause I really liked them. Falken Wildpeak A/T 3W.
Stopped at my tire shop when I had the Taco back, after work. Can you get these Wildpeaks in this size for this truck (Taco). Yep, can get them in this afternoon & they're... $210.

Stupid me thinks 210/4= not bad. "Okay".

D'oh! $210 each of course. :frusty: Still - worth it to me. Really like those tires on the Tundra. Think I need arch flares for the front fenders though.
    IMG_20210925_174223042_HDR.jpg IMG_20210925_174042685_HDR (2).jpg

Had the old Coopers mounted on some stock Taco rims I have. 1 full size spare for Taco, 1 full size spare for Tacoma trailer, & 2 for the Tacoma Trailer that happens to have matching lug pattern.
    IMG_20210925_174108273_HDR (2).jpg
aaaaaaaaaand they rub on the trailer frame. Guess I'm buying 2 trailer tires until I can cut off that (extra) bit of frame. Nothings easy.

...and of course came home to find the two front 4600's delivered & sitting on my porch. Sigh. Next weekend.

So, guess mostly I missed it this week. Maybe a little trying to recreate it through the Tacoma.
Anyone know if the Tundra radio will fit in the 1st gen Taco? I replaced the factory am/fm/cassette for an am/fm/cassette/CD unit. Now I have one on the shelf with the 5 disc CD player. Would like to swap that in until I get a round tuit to put on an antenna (fallen tree ate it).

Bonus picture - why I wanted to replace the spare tire on the Taco - blech

    Well after noticing this yesterday...20210924_173903.jpg
    20210924_173906.jpg
I guess new shocks need to go higher up on the list. I knew the bushings were blown out before frame replacement but I guess removing and reinstalling made them way worse as now the inner part and the outer part are two separate pieces. Planning on 5100s with stock trd coils. Just trying to level out the truck. From the info I can gather 3rd notch is probably the best way to go with a diff drop.
Might be a good time to go ahead and do lower ball joints and get rid of the Moogs installed by previous owner in the last 5 to 10k.

Anyone know if there is any discount codes for Toytec? I've never ordered from them before. Needing to get the steering rack bushing kit and bump stops.

Out in our desert we have antelope. I guess it's better than the deer because antelope generally seem to gather in larger packs and the desert is more wide open where I usually see them.

It was a smaller cow. She was doing about 50mph and slowed to 15 or so when she hit it. Just frustrates me that she speeds by wildlife on the side of the road. I slow down when passing for this exact reason, cause you never know when a stupid animal will try to cross the road instead of staying put.
Yes that would have been a lot worse.

Riding motorcycles and fourwheelers showed me to respect how stupid cows are. I actually almost hit a moose with my motorcycle one time. Granted it was dead and in the middle of the trail and around a blind corner, but it was scary enough with how fast and stupid I used to ride.

Hey at least she slowed down right? Maybe next time she will make you proud. I think women just use their brains different at certain times and we infuriate them at those times and they disappoint us.

Anyone have ideas for how I might reinforce these two joints? With 150lbs it flexes more than I’d like since I sized up in tires.

Bottom bar is round and the sides are rectangular.

Anyone got any recommendations for a good portable toolbox? Or even a small not portable one. My tool area in my apartment is a mess because i thought buy two canvas bags would be good, but i need more organization.

@jImmegart Looks like you have some Milwaukee tools already..? They make some neat stackable tool boxes. I'm not sure if they are reasonably priced or not but would be looking into. Jpink brought them over to my house last week when we did his brakes and I was impressed.

For work and side jobs I have backpacks; each back pack has literally every tool I need for my line of work. Perfect for all the smaller hand tools and things like that. Klein makes one, that’s my side job bag, but it has issues standing up on its own while open or closed. Milwaukee, one I rock at work, has tons of organizational pouches and areas for tools, molle straps on the outside to attach more stuff; and it stands up well on its own. Both a tubbed so they can sit on a wet floor and not soak thru
Your wire shelf is great for organizing bigger tools; I was able to score some gym lockers for my garage, and that’s helps with individual storage or areas or organizing madness.

my buddy picked me up some recovery gear at the overland expo, made in USA, not sure if it’s a kinetic rope or just a static strap.

I looked it up, it is a kinetic rope. I’ve already got an Arb one, but I wanted some more length, 40’ should be plenty

@jImmegart I'm also a backpack guy like @FrenchToasty - Jansport all the way, you buy one bag with lifetime warranty and you're set for life. I'm on #4 with my current backpack, after 24 years of ownership.

So, follow-up. I got my install done, made my 8yo son who f'ed it all up do the work with me. I wasn't willing to pay for the Weathertech stuff, nor the Xtreme mats, neither would work because all of their products are way too big for my sink and cabinet situation, nothing they make is smaller than 22" depth. I needed something with max dims of 15-16" depth and 22-39 width, but 15x22 would manage both sink drains. I ended up ordering the same Gorilla Grip 15x23 feeding mat we use for the dog's raised bowl setup. Should hold enough water I'll know what's up.

Anyway - I appreciate the suggestion (thanks), it got me thinking the right way to hopefully avoid this BS in the future, since disposals seem to have an average lifespan of 4-5 years in our kitchen.

FWIW to anyone interested, I ended up trading up the Badger 500 or whatever that was on before to one of the Insinkerator Evolution 5/8HP units, those come with an 8yr warranty at +50% cost. It's easily 50-75% quieter, although it uses the exact same damn steel chassis as the cheaper 3/4 - 1 HP Insinkerator units (Badger 900?) if you snap the bulky plastics off. I think the quietness is entirely due to the rubber flange they're using at the mouth of the chassis ... a new feature which forced me to relocate the rubber drain catch, but that may be a plus later also.

2 hours I could've been working on the truck, spend working under the sink. :(

I’m curious to see if this does anything. I’m guessing it won’t. I need some wag to do something real here.
