Given the current rate of inflation, I wouldn't rule this out.

At least our trucks will be worth $100k!

In 2019 about 9 months before the market hit the moon.

Part of the housing shortage is because mortgage companies have been on hold from foreclosures and evictions. It's surprising how many homes become available once that lifts. Another part is construction slowing on newer homes because the cost of materials went up.

Things will settle. Depending on your area the value might not drop too hard but in California for sure a lot of people will get slapped with how much the value drops. Tax is based on last sold price so they'll be paying high on that until they refinance, likely losing that interest rate in the process.

I bought my house at 499, others in the area sold around 520 at the time. The identical house 3 doors down just listed at 619 and sold same day for 639. Would be exciting if that stays but it won't. As the world gets back to normal we'll have to see where we land.

Nice. You got in at the perfect time. Should protect you a bit if prices do fall.

You guys want to hear something that crushes what's left of my soul every single day?
I have a standing job offer (for my dream job) for 40% more money than I make now in another state.
Were I to take it, the owner of the business (one of my good friends) has a huge house and has offered to let Kelly and me stay in the west wing of it until we find a place.

The timing is incredible. My house is worth significantly more than I owe on it and I wouldn't have to buy or rent for some time if we moved. (after the market corrects)

Kelly doesn't want to move because she loves her job.

I'm going to yeet myself from a roof.

Yup I got lucky. I was gonna hold out longer but my wife got impatient.

One other thing that I suspect has been happening is people are afraid to move. Afraid to sell because they'll not find anything cheaper or affordable unless they go out of state. Afraid to take on such big purchases when times are uncertain. Plus a lot of people are still out of work, so can't move even if they wanted to.

My neighborhood has always had a pretty high rate of people selling and moving. I watched it for 6 months before buying and that pace didn't change until April of 2020, for the first time there were no houses for sale. It stayed that way until around Fall of 2020. Thats where my suspicion that people are just afraid to move comes from. The ones who have sold recently are moving out of state for the most part, only one of the 6 I spoke with is staying in CA.

I think I am on board with all of that. We call those "I can make the payment people". I asked a coworker what they paid for a new car and he literally could not answer me. He only knew the payment.

There are a lot of people who probably feel like they have way more than they do. When does the student loan part of this stimuli expire?

    He's waited ~3 years already.
He's getting ready to make a big expansion and won't be able to hold the position if I can't get out there within the first 4-6 months.

    Noted. :D

She would need a job. She wouldn't need to make a fortune, but we'd need more income than just mine to reach our goals.

    Don't think I haven't been looking.
I have to find one and then get her to apply for it. Therein lie the challenges.
She also loves the neighborhood we live in and has really settled herself in.

For the first time since buying a house, selling mine appears to be the easiest part.

Another first for me is that I've recently considered giving up a life of sobriety in favor of drowning my dreams in booze. Hell, may as well go all in on self-destruction and sell the 911 and start eating animals again. Just keep the truck and buy a big MFing Yeti cooler to haul beer around and fully give up on all the things I've loved and known.

How do you think the reported 4.3% inflation rate is going to play into all of this?

I've seen and been around too many people whose lives have been destroyed by alcohol to say anything but "Don't do it!" I do understand the temptation, and struggle with it myself. When you hit a wall, and there just doesn't seem to be any way to get to where you want to go, it is really tempting to just say f**k it all.

I'd recommend going over your priorities and seeing what is most important. Look at all the good things you have in your life, and decide if they are all worth losing because of this situation. Weigh what you have against what you would gain if you pushed ahead with the move, and see which one will make you happiest.

You and your wife need to have a really deep and honest conversation, and possibly have it with a mediator. Is having to give this up going to cause resentment? Would her moving cause resentment? What can be done to avoid either of you feeling like you are being robbed of what you want? You have to communicate. If you let it stew, this will come up in a bigger and badder way down the road.

I came across a gent who had a pretty cool X w/ double diamond tat on his calf this past weekend while at a city BBQ and Beer fest.... then I saw a drink in his hand and lost all respect for the dude before even chatting him up to compliment his artwork/artist.

I'm not edge and never have been, but I have the utmost respect for most that are. I know you're partially joking. Booze is fun, but it isn't that fun to give up what you live for.

If payroll doesn't catch up fast enough I don't think it will hold an influence on the cost of housing. An interesting thing I have been watching is that the biggest spikes in estimated value are on the low to mid range houses. In my neighborhood for example the price has gone up roughly 20%. When I look up the hill at the 1.5 million dollar houses they are not going up much at all, barely 10% and if you keep climbing over the 3 million range even less.

If it were across the board I would completely agree that inflation is a big driver, but seeing that tells me it isn't (it participates for sure though). I'm no economics expert by any means, I ditched that class daily in high school. I'm just looking at the changes from my view at the office.

@chrisb I wouldn't want you to go into self destruction mode. I think the best way to discuss it might be to take a trip and check out the area you're aiming at with her. Maybe even take a trip to the shop if that is possible to show her that what you're wanting is your absolute dream, something not many get to pursue let alone fulfill.

It's hard to tell if she is really that happy where she is or if she's just complacent and thinks such a life change is scary or a hassle. If she knows how much it would mean to you, and sees that the life change would be good for both of you, maybe she would be more willing.

Both are worn by the sXe community. Diamond is used loosely. I'll let @chrisb chime in more if he see's fit or if I'm of the wrong understanding. Assuming you've inferred, but a guy rocking a giant X tattoo on his calf and drinking is ass backwards.
