I made them turn the debit card BACK to an ATM card. WTH would I want a debit card when I can earn an extra months+ interest on my money by using a credit card?

It's my understanding tankless needs you to run full hot to get the heat flowing. Dunno if that's true or not. Would annoy me.

I went traditional tank (gas) because my house runs when the electricity goes out. My gas hot water needs no electricity. My ancient gas furnace needs no electricity other than the blower - but heat rises so no big if no fan.

Can you have hot water with a tankless if the electricity goes out?

There's so many power out episodes around here that it's kinda irresponsible to not have a backup generator. I got the RV instead, and a house that works without electricity.

    @Darkness

In the first picture, that duct tape is covering a hole. It's open there because the venting for the previous HVAC used the same vent as the water heater. So that should be replaced IMO. Also, all 3 companies have said the angle for the vent is no longer at code. Supposed to vent straight up..?

Water expands when heated, and it’s good to have somewhere for it to expand to; it’s called a expansion tank.

@FirstGenVol the vent doesn't have to run straight up for that heater but it definitely should have an elbow rather than a makeshift T fitting there. The only part that isn't DIY friendly is your copper pipes are hard lined to your heater, so it has to be cut out and sweat together again. In California we have supply lines (flexible hose like a giant ss brake line) that make it easier on DIY.

Sweating copper isn't hard, but getting all the water out of the lines to sweat copper can be a pain. Seeing those things, it might not be a bad idea to hire this one.

Oh now I see why you were saying I should install it. I've done many faucets over the years with those style hoses. If that were the case I'd feel comfortable hooking up the lines. I'm not about to try and sweat copper.

    Same here in PA.

@FirstGenVol you could add some supply lines. I know a lot of folks are leery about Sharkbite fittings but I've also never first hand heard of one failing. You would need to relocate the expansion tank though.
    https://www.homedepot.com/p/SharkBi...tegrated-Ball-Valve-u3088flex18bvlf/202685676

Add in a new 90 and what looks like a reducer for the vent and you'd be set.

Ok, ive got an expansion tank, but its under my sink, and has an air bladder in it. I never knew what it was called, but it helps push water through my RO filters.

That is basically a booster to support high usage, it stores extra water, when more water is being used than what it can produce
    I don’t have one in my house……

Shark bite fittings just click into place. Really, you push it on and it clicks, thats it. I've always been weary of them but haven't heard of them failing either.

The expansion tank you could probably move up if you got creative and loop the supply line.

I don't have an expansion tank either. Pressure regulator at my intake and a relief valve on the heater that has never released.

My dads last house was on the end of a cul de sac, and his whole house had like 90 psi water pressure. Showers were great, but using the sinks was messy if you didnt know what you were getting into.

An expansion tank is only necessary if you have a closed loop plumbing system. When the water in the tank heats up, it expands. If there's a check valve on the supply line that keeps water from going back into the main supply from your house (sometimes separate, sometimes in the water meter) the extra pressure can damage the lines and fixtures in your house.
