I still get the same amount of work done in a day, but the 8 hours can easily stretch into a 10 hour day. Sitting outside under the sun at the picnic table answering emails, researching vendor specs and putting together presentations and reports typically take a little longer with a beer in hand, but those 2 extra hours spent are on my own personal time.

I'm at work at work, but my wife works from home now. (for now?)
I find she's the exception to the rule. Stays in her office and actually does the work and doesn't get sloshed. Her coworkers, I have less faith in...

I've found that I also work more hours from home - not bragging about it by any means, as I'm a salaried employee. It's too easy to start answering calls and emails while still pouring my coffee in the morning, and staying in front of the comp late in the evening when needed.

I actually kid about AA….it’s a problem my youngest dealt with zooming from home for the better part of last year. They are slowly getting back to the office environment but normal life has a way to go for many folks !

I actually don't think most people working from home are slacking or getting drunk. A lot of companies have admitted that performance has stayed the same or improved. With many jobs, there really isn't a need to force people into an office 5 days a week to do the same thing they would be doing at home. If anything positive comes out of this, I hope it's that we get more flexibility to work at home. It will be less traffic for the rest of you.

Ya I agree, with both my parents working from home they stay pretty focused through out the day and with the added benefit of being able to spend more time with my younger sisters.

My bro in law would rather be in the office, he says it keeps him more focused; he’s also going thru a shitty divorce.
Mainly our HR and BS support staff have been the only ones “working” from home. They don’t do much at work, so I can’t imagine they’re doing much from home either.
I do agree that 90% of their main tasks and functions could be preformed from home, I wish I could change a fan belt from my couch!!!

All ya’ll need to get back into the Office at work! Too much slacking going on from what I can see (evidence above). Scary is over. No need to wear mask now per CDC. Get back to work!!! No more excuses.

Masks were never necessary for this. Not going anywhere off limits, but there are multiple studies prior to CV19 that proved masks and respirators do nothing regarding viruses or their spread. Every study conducted in a properly controlled condition shows this, and the only "evidence" that says otherwise has been during CV19 and under conditions that lack anything approaching a control level to be considered legitimately viable for any scientific study. If anyone would like, I can PM a link to a doctor and his multiple sources on this.

Fauci says people are "misinterpreting" the new CDC mask guidance - Axios
    • "It's not their fault," Fauci added. "People either read them quickly, or listen and hear half of it. They are feeling that we're saying: 'You don't need the mask anymore.' That's not what the CDC said. They said: If you are vaccinated, you can feel safe — that you will not get infected either outdoors or indoors. It did not explicitly say that unvaccinated people should abandon their masks."

The generation of folks that worked before me used to go out and get drinks during lunch and chain smoke at their desk, so if that’s how workers are supposed to respond…..maybe a drink or two at home isn’t so bad. :D

I hope that van is armored. Can't be too careful when you're hauling such expensive cargo.

My new job has me working from home for the next 2.5 weeks.. I can neither confirm nor deny that my morning coffee is just coffee. I can also neither confirm nor deny the precise amount of actual work I do in a day may be a fraction of what I did at my old job. I can confirm though that my work attire is usually a hoodie and sweatpants, that a traffic jam on my commute consists of The Woman's cat laying on the stairs demanding scratches and that not being dirty after a day's work is fantastic.

Yeah. I see everyone walking during lunch. Collecting checks etc. :rofl:Next door neighbor can’t figure out how to bust out of a wet paper bag with 2 degrees and she just barely got this job ‘working’ and drinking from home. They sent her an iPhone and she was clueless on how to use it. Boss told her she was useless and a bad hire and they were wasting money on her.

    If you’ve been fully vaccinated:

    • You can resume activities that you did prior to the pandemic.
    • You can resume activities without wearing a mask or staying 6 feet apart, except where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules, and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance.

I'll stick to my messy, dangerous freedom over the restrictive "safety", and if me not having a mask on scares you; don't get close to me. Not rocket science.

I've never been a fan of working from home. I end up working longer days and I'm salary as well so it only benefits me if the amount of work I get done gets noticed (it does according to my bonuses).

I save the drinks for when I'm doing the late night sessions with my coworker overseas, even then I'm not getting hammered but having a normal nightcap. I work normally from 7:30-4 my time but I hop on around 8pm my time until who knows just to get work done. Sometimes its an hour, sometimes I realize its 1am. Its much more efficient than trying to write messages and hope when I log on the next day it was all understood.

I'm not an anti-masker. I'm actually a habitual rule follower, until the rule's only purpose is to check a box. Then I just can't make sense of the absurdity. The mask free mandate now has nothing to do with science, safety or transmission of viruses. It's the next phase of "get everyone vaccinated by incentive".

I would never have worn the mask. I would not have taken the vaccine. I'm in a low risk group (along with greater than 90% of the population). My work requires I get vaccinated and wear a mask. Whatever, I'm not tore up either way. I don't like to be within 6 feet of most people anyway.

Well, I got my work provided computer set up no problem, figured out Excel well enough and I bring my trash can in the day they get emptied. Sound like I'm doing pretty good. :D

I'm technically salaried now too, but I have a set on/off. I log on at 0800, I shut my computer down at 1600.

Outdoor transmission is so rare that its been a bad joke on everyone that masks were required at parks, beaches, hiking trails, etc. Even indoors the use is questionable. I think that the mask is only helpful in reminding people that there is a bad virus out there that may not bother you or may take its toll on you. A reminder to keep distance and be careful.

Around 2012 there was a lady at an office I worked at who claimed that the building caused her to have a respitory condition. She wore a mask, the rigid white kind that landscapers wear while cutting grass, not the medical style. She had some case against the company. I had a long discussion with my boss, who was also her boss, about how ineffective such a mask would be against particles from our hvac. The air passes by the gap at the nose, those masks are good for keeping grass or sawdust out but won't help with real fine airborne particles. I knew because I wore one whenever I cut clay pipe with a grinder and in the summer you would see trails of pink clay dust going by your nose and to your nostrils. At some point my boss saw her running on a treadmill in the office gym, no mask. That supported my calling bluff. All this to say, the kind of mask used matters.

The best is when someone gets in your face to ask you why you're not wearing a mask. :monocle:
