Our free cash went right back in to the local govt to help pay for our crazy rising prop taxes.

Yeah lumber is stupid expensive right now. $60 for a single sheet of 5/8” cdx ply. Even OSB is unbelievable at $42 for a single sheet of 1/2”. Scariest part is it just continues to rise, and I recently heard that steel is about to do the same. Don’t know how anybody is building anything.

250' of 12/2 is $150, 3x what it normally is. But the price of MC is almost the same. PVC and EMT have skyrocketed as well. It's almost cheaper to wire a house in MC at this point.

Work has slowed down too. I've gotten maybe 2 40 hr weeks this year. Had to sell my .308 AR this weekend just to make ends meet.

Sorry to hear this bud. I’ve noticed the phone not ringing as much and last week a few people got slippery on me for some small stuff they ‘really wanted to do and can I get on your list’ 2 months ago but now ‘had other stuff come up’.

Sugar High is wearing thin. I’ve needed a break from work, but don’t like it coming from things slowing down or materials rocketing. This coming month will be working at home installing new windows (and shorty headers) and hoping work calls filter in.

In less disconcerting news, I've ordered a new head unit for the Tundra. I also ordered a mounting kit.
As my truck has the amp under the back seat, I reckon I'll be removing the whole GD interior to remove all of the old system and wire in the new head unit.
    I'll do speakers later...probably.

New Tweeters made my system pop like never before. I’m hearing stuff that wasn’t registering before. The 2002 has the Tweeters up in the top corner of the front door near the handle. OEM Radio and 1 year old lower speakers. The Tweeters just added are wow!

My current OE stuff is starting to fail. The volume knob does whatever it wants if you spin it too quickly and when I drive home with the windows open, I have to crank it to 45 or 50 where I could hear it at 35 before. The head unit in my old t4r was a POS and was failing the same way. I installed a new head unit and it alone made a huge improvement. With all the chassis money I'm spending this year, I'll limp into the stereo where I can.

Plus I need to turn off the radio. The talking heads (not to be confused with the Talking Heads) are just too much for me to bear any longer and the radio stations here play more commercials than music or anything else.

I don't think I have turned fm on since last year. With podcasts it's to easy to get real information without listening to all the ads. I also suspect several of our stations are pushing an agenda.

Shitty dude, sorry about the AR.

I'm a 01 journeyman, went from a small 10 man electrical shop to our local PUD power company 5 years ago. Guaranteed 40+ hrs a week.
Are there any City/ County/ State jobs out there with a little more job security in your area?

At least half the commercials are mask/korunka propaganda. 'Pushing an agenda' is understating it vastly.

I just want to kick out the jams at top volume and sing/scream along to songs I like.

I go on vacation for a week and coming back to the build up of tasks at work is almost as bad as looking at all the unread pages in threads I'm subscribed to in the FGT section....ALMOST...

There are, but they don't have the benefits I get here. Free insurance and taking my van home everyday makes it nice. I've been here since June of 10; I'm basically part of the scenery. My boss keeps asking me to buy him out and take over, but I just don't want that hassle. I also have the head inspector here trying to get me to take over for him, but that's a pay cut.

Pantex is hiring, but that's just way too much red tape and govt BS for me to deal with. On top of all that, if I get a raise anywhere, my wonderful ex wife will take me back to court for more child support. Someone's gotta pay for her new lexus and her hubby's new 3/4 ton chevy...

Well at least it all hasn't killed your sense of humor. We are our experiences. I think you seem like a pretty good guy that's trying to have fun and do right by himself and his. Sorry to interject, but I felt it needed to be stated.

Just taking it a day at a time! The sense of humor keeps the depression at bay. I don't have time to deal with being depressed too. Everything will come out OK, we've been slow before, but never like this for this long.

Im a civil engineer who deals mainly with steel structures and foundations. On the last 3 large projects that we’ve done, the contractor has asked for a separate steel package to be put out first before even considering site work and foundation. Reason being is there’s apparently a 9 month plus lead time on any bar joists.

One contractor even had us do a complete redesign to eliminate bar joists and use wide flange instead since there’s supposedly only a 3 month lead on those.

Yeah, I get your dilemma. Sounds about like my old work situation minus the ex-wife bs. I was there for 13 years, work truck and free Ins.
Can you pick up any side work for some extra dough, or is that frowned upon in TX?

    Written and promptly burned.

I'm just hoping aluminum stays available so I can make a couple gx roof racks and maybe a nice bumper for my truck.

Union Bosses still take their cuts even when the dues payers that fund their salaries don’t have work. Let that sink in for a minute.

This is what I started doing last year when the ‘Scary Hysteria’ started bubbling. I was calling around for some Aluminum Fencing for a custom job. Kept getting recordings during business hours ‘due to Covid’ and when I’d get someone they didn’t know anything about their product because such and such didn’t come to work etc.

Told the homeowner his labor price, but said ‘due to Covid’ the materials are what they are/might/could be and that includes whatever shipping might cost because that was a funny one during the time, as well.

Guys fence still isn’t built. I haven’t heard from him more than a year later either to know what the deal is.

We had a black chain link fence installed last week instead of messing with lumber prices. I actually like that this is no maintenance. I hate staining fences.

Exactly why I did vinyl a few years ago. Cost was about $600 more but no staining although I did need to wash it last summer.

I’m working on a metal rolling gate, but still wish I’d ordered more corrugated to raise the height of the rest of my block wall. I know metal is rocketing too.
