Are there not a lot of legal off-roading areas for you out there? We’re pretty spoiled out here with all the state trust land

Nada. Land is too valuable here. it's all owned & posted, or it's state land for hiking, or it's power company land. power company sometimes turns a blind eye. I've heard rumors of a private land w/ club access, but so far a rumor only. So today was a gamble ending in a slapped wrist. Turns out yesterday was start of wild turkey hunting season - so Po-Po was out looking. D'oh.

So the loophole out here is basically have a hunting license, and if you ever get asked/approched(if that even happens) you just say you are scouting, or siting in a rifle.
For the most part as long as you aren’t out trashing the desert or acting a fool, the LEOs won’t bother you. We even had one correct us when we said we were target shooting, oh you mean your siting your gun in? Yes sir.
He was more interested in my buddies M1-a1

I need to pick up a little over a yard of topsoil next weekend. Anyone ever tried hauling such a load? I have a feeling I'll want to do it in 2 trips, since my research says topsoil can weigh over 1500lbs depending on moisture.

Half a yard each trip shouldn't be unreasonable. I've had a 1.5 yards of mulch in mine and it carries it fine.

Out here... Just drive faster than blm. They don't really bother you much if you aren't by other people or doing something dumb. The whole desert is like a big system of roads and trails to explore. Shooting is fine too as long as you don't hit a cow that's there for winter range.

They’re getting hot tanked tomorrow. I don’t know what the hell got into this grease. But it’s not normal.

It's slightly better than whatever grease we use for our punch press at work. At least cv grease doesn't soak into your hands and smell like death. It's still crazy messy. I think it's moly grease maybe?

I've never seen a BLM ranger out here, only BP. Have seen state park, NP, and USFS plenty on their land though.

    Pretty country!
Blm or a sheriff is about all you'll see out here our here in the desert. In the mountains it's really just forest service. I've only been hassled by blm. They always seemed to have ATF syndrome.

Dude that's because almost half of the State of Utah is BLM land lol. BLM gets royalties for virtually any form of development on their land, and has many regulatory hoops that can result in even more cash in The Man's pocket in the form of violations. That's why you see them everywhere in your State. There's plenty of forest rangers and wildlife managers (wardens) that run around mountain States (Colorado being one).

Payload Capacity is around 1300+/- on our Trucks depending on year etc.

I know when my Bumpstop is about and inch off the frame the Payload in my bed weighs about 1200lbs.

I would not carry over 1500lbs in your truck bed.

I'll do it in 2 trips to be safe, especially since I'm pretty sure my leaf springs are starting to near needing replacement.

Yeah, it's just odd to me how BP is the only LEO I've ever seen in our desert BLM land, never seen a BLM ranger. Then again I'm a good boy for the most part.

1 yard of soil = 2200 or so pounds. Too much. Riding on the bumpstops.

1244 pounds of tile flooring (scale verified) had me an inch from the bumpstops.

I hauled a yard of top soil in my 04 DC. It was very much on the bump stops. Now I only get a 1/2 yard at a time. I have an 06 DC now, next time I get top soil, I might get a yard just to see if my springs are in better shape than the 04.

One benefit of getting 1/2 yard. You don't have to work so hard unloading it.

Next time I get a load of top soil, I want to get a scale ticket loaded and empty. I always get my top soil from the same place and I could go by the truck stop with a cat scale.

I just bought a used OEM axle on ebay for $78 with free shipping. it came off a vehicle with 125k and it's been a week so for with no issues. So, if you're looking for spare OEM, try ebay.

I drove a few miles with about 2/3rds of my bed full of sand, I was riding the bumps and don't really recommend that. Parts of that drive were off road.
