Yes. Tear Drops were detected in your region of the globe. There is an App now that knows who is emitting chemical toxicity both real and imagined. Its expensive, but worth it. Keeps the Earth Screamers busy doing what they do best.

You know, mounting one under the hood isn't a bad idea. It can hold your beer AND a spare while working on the truck.

Any thoughts on the current gen Rav4? My wife likes the body style. We're thinking in 3-4 years we'll try to find a lightly used one. I heard the fixed the gas tank issue.

That's pretty funny. My wife asked about a hybrid and I said I thought they were pretty solid, but I didn't know about batteries and the electrical stuff and if it lasted long term. I don't hear much besides some stuff about the first prius and batteries or cats. What doesn't have cat issues though?

We never have cat issues other than them being stolen. Batteries last at least 10 years. But I’ve got some 1st gen priuses going almost 20 years now on the OG “flawed” battery. They’re stupid low maintenance vehicles

The only piece of advise I give is, DO 5k OIL CHNAGES. A lot of the people religious to the 10k interval are having oil burning issues

I'm probably mistaking a trouble code for cats for the code for batteries. Come to think of it I think I remember hearing how some guys were driving with bad batteries and still saying they got great mpg. Maybe less power though. The Prius is an ugly car, but I respect it if you say it's solid. Still not buying one though.

Although... I was thinking of a good mpg engine swap for a Jeep or something that had good power. Perhaps hybrid or even electric will be the next ls swap?

Cummins R28 or 'common rail' TDI for your Jeep.
Plenty of tq, huge jump in fuel economy, not an LS.

All toyota hybrids are solid honestly. The rav4 prime is pretty damn quick too (5sec 0-60 I think?)

The CVT in a hybrid is TOTALLY different from a regular CVT. I’ve replaced ONE hybrid trans in 7 years due to someone putting a hole in it with a parking block... (how I’ll never know)

I don't know. I'm sure they are great for mpg, but this isn't an impressive power to $ number. My 4.7 jeep stroker probably lays down numbers bigger than that. I'm talking power and mpg and not just trail power but daily driving freeway and such.

Maybe these can be built to perform better?
    Cummins R2.8 Turbo Diesel Specifications:
    • Horsepower: 161 hp (120 kW)
    • Torque: 307 lb-ft (420 Nm)
If I added a turbo to my stroker and geared it appropriately I was wondering if I could get as much as 17 mpg. My old xj with a worn 4.0 and 33s would get 17 when I regeared it.

    1. Most vehicles/powerplants have underwhelming numbers in stock form. Modify everything. We all know it's going to happen anyway.
    2. The area under the curve tells a better tale than just peak numbers. The diesels don't blow anyone away with peak numbers, but they get there almost immediately and then flatten out. That's significantly more power than a gas engine of similar displacement with similar peak numbers.
    3. If it's going to be used in a trail rig, being able to drop it in any gear and let it chug along at idle is something no gas engine will be able to match. You get the freeway performance with gearing and a well chosen/built TCase....and keeping the weight down.

Because oil is cheap, and engines are expensive.

And because most of my driving is just short trips these days.

I've sent a few samples off to Blackstone but that's not why I typically change mine before 5K. My wife and I both work from home so I'm only driving my truck a few times each month right now. With our Rav4, it's 90% city driving so I felt a shorter interval is more appropriate. Even then, we only do 4k miles every 8+months. As Rex said, oil is cheap.
