Do you have a discount tire near you? I've heard they will let you change sizes if they don't fit. They bend over backwards to help make people happy. I don't know if they sell those Kenda's though.

I think Discount gives you a prorated amount back if you switch sizes, not entirely sure though.

I'm not sure how much cheaper that tire is, but when I normally run the numbers, buying tires online doesn't really save me much money. You still have to pay for mounting and balancing and then when you need rotations you'll either have to do it yourself or pay a shop. Discount Tire's free rotations make it worth it for me. If you are on a budget, it looks like they sell Cooper ATP's for $188. Good looking tire.

I’m running Toytec Boss coil overs at 2.75” and rear 1.5” block. 17x8.5” wheels with 0 offset and 33x10.50R17 Kenda’s. I love my setup.

I got mine the tires on eBay for $664 shipped. DT is my preferred place for tires but as you know, they don’t carry Kendas (yet). Paid them $80 to mount and balance. They took less than 3oz of weight per tire which a lot less than my duratracs. New wheels, tires mounted and balanced cost $1281 out the door which about the same cost as one set of tires in 285/70/17 from DT.

    You make me sick! Lol

I used to work at Costco and still have friends in the tire shop that will do it for me for free.

But I want the Klevers haha

Don't judge my truck's generation by the whiners that buy them! :p I get fine MPG for a heavy gasser while towing and empty. I have no leaks. Transmission cooler is a fun project if you want it, but an overblown "issue" to be sure. I only swapped my grille to get rid of chrome, but kept the purdy style.

In the end, all Tundras are pretty sweet, and would be a better choice than most other 1/2 tons in 90% of the scenarios.

How did those tires do in the recent snow storm? I've been really happy with the snow performance of my duratracs, but keep hearing so many good things about other tires and poor wear of the duratracs.

hello guys, i have a potential serious problem or maybe not. i was driving downhill in the rocky mountains, engine breaking in 2nd gear, and it appears im a half a quart low on engine oil????? i do suspect the oil was sneaking pass the old valve stem seals, because during the summer on startup i would have blue puffs of smoke out of my exhaust, but that stopped within a month. any advice ? I have no problem using my brakes down the mountains but since i just moved here im rather inexperienced with how long my brakes can be applied before they overheat in the rocky mountains.

I just grabbed whatever Costco had. Storage size is so big now and cheap it's hard to go wrong. I have the external hard drive, and two thumb drives I use just in case one goes bad, and I leave one at work so if a fire burns down the house, I still have a backup somewhere else (yeah, a bit paranoid).

Go faster! I only engine brake on slick roads. Unless it's some crazy back road regular brakes are fine.

The real trick is to use the brakes and then get off them so they cool down, it's when you ride the brakes that you have problems.

does oil consumption from engine braking seem like the likely cause? im fine if it uses oil only when engine braking

How much downhill are you doing? And what all are you hauling? I wouldn't be too worried about brakes overheating unless you're riding them hard for 5 miles and 14,000 feet.

not sure, but its a decent amount since its the rockies. i never haul anything so i guess my brakes will be alright. i just have never had a toyota consume oil and just moved out of my parents so engine issues are not on my list hahaha

My dad has a 2018 or 2019 TRD and it’s a pretty cool truck. Not a lot of bells and whistles other than the fancy headlights and adaptive cruise control. He tows tandems with it and it never misses a beat. His headlights are what inspired me to build mine.

Phenomenal. I posted about it here.
    https://www.tundras.com/threads/35x...es-anyone-try-these.81795/page-2#post-2153050

I replaced my Duratrac’s with these and haven’t looked back since. They are quieter, better traction in all conditions, look better (IMO); just overall a great tire.

That’s the one time you shouldn’t use engine brakes. When the engine downshifts it’s typically high revs and that can break your traction loose. The driver can maintain steadier pressure of the brake pedal and be safer

@CodyP is right. applying brakes slowly and steadily will give better traction than if the engine over-revs and causes the wheels to slip.

For the oil, check the level and inspect around the valve covers, drain plug, and oil filter. Might have to clean around there to see if there is a leak and where it's coming from. When was your last oil change?

I wonder what was on the phone the guy was trying to get rid of in the first place if I’m understanding that correctly.

He seemed to be more grossed out about it but maybe the opportunity to get rid of communication between them was a plus.

While I was installing the toilet again the young woman told me it was in her back pocket last time she remembered and she had rushed off the toilet because he was yelling for her. Probably fell out and into the bowl, how she failed to hear the splash is beyond me.

My cynical brain's first thought was that she sounded like she was being kept against her will, and that was why she went for the dirty phone. I also tend to have low expectations of humanity.

That could be. I came across a lot of really unusual people when I was a service plumber.

One time I went to a house where the kitchen drain wouldn't drain. I ran a snake through the clean out, it did nothing. I threw my hydrojet in there and got it open. I told the couple (in mid 30s) the price. She asked what payments I accept, I gave her my usual "Cash, check, credit card, or first born child" response. She pointed into the kitchen and said thats my first born, shes only 17 but I won't tell.

I laughed it off thinking it was a joke and she wrote a check. As I was packing up my stuff her and her husband came out. She told me they go to a swingers club and she would like to set me up with a date so I could go too. You can't go there alone, but she could arrange a date. I looked over and her husband had a "here she goes again" face. I politely declined and left. I'll be honest, it was hard to turn her down, she was really attractive, but im not into that sort of shit.

Also put a finger up your tailpipe, rub along the bottom, and see if it comes out wet. If its stinky, then you're in the wrong tailpipe....

And +1 to don't engine brake in the mountains. Don't ride your brakes either. They'll cool enough if you give em a chance. Until you're confident that your brakes are doing the job pulling over and putting your hand on a front wheel to check temps can help you gain confidence. But really you'll be fine.

Just reserved a copy of the FN wheels. Hopefully 1-5wks. Free set of lugs for shipping to a local FedEx office and they guy (forget his name) was super nice and informed. He has a 05 tundra. Said I should do the 285/70 instead of the 33/10.50 and that should push to the fenders. Hopefully I won’t have to run the spacers I have sitting on my shelf. Now the wait and I’m sure a lashing from the wife after I pick up the wheels
