I had a Tesla p90 for a week. HATED it. No noise in a car is a snooze fest. Yea it’s quick. But it’s so boring

I hear ya. I would not take on that project to save the bees. Years ago I read a few books on the conversion process. I also created a spreadsheet and it made since to replace my economy car with a diy electric somewhere over $4 a gallon. I have no need for an EV at the moment. Producing gasoline at home would be a tall order for me, but I could produce electricity myself. Less reliance on outside sources has always been appealing to me.

How much maintenance is required to get a big old DC motor to a million miles?

Growing up I have always been told by my dad that doing burnouts is just about the best way to destroy your vehicle, but I was just curious. Does my rear wheels spinning In the snow do the same damage as just doing a burnout? I'm assuming no especially if I keep revs below 3k or something

If you have LSD, then the burnouts will wear that clutch pack more than normal.

He just didn't want to keep buying tires lol.

Only if there is slippage. If both tires are moving at the same speed the clutches are not wearing at all.

Now if one tire is on pavement and the other in snow/mud/dirt/etc and one side is spinning but the other is not.... well that would wear out the clutches.

Gotcha. My rear end is open unfortunately, I feel like open rear ends are just so useless on a 4x4, but I also never really need one

Spinning doesn’t hurt anything. It’s that sudden traction and shock that damages things

First real snow of the season. Avalon’s new Michelin’s performed flawlessly. Hell I’d argue I prefer it over the trucks in the snow now.

Did some digging.. Might be able to devise a puddle light setup that turns on when you hit the unlock button.. May look into this in the near future.. could be a cheap little "upgrade"

Glad to hear. Next tires I get will be michelin for sure. I'm in the far west Chicago land suburbs and we are getting absolutely hammered with snow. Just got back home in the tundra and it was fun driving it home in these terrible road conditions. There's like 6-7 inches so far and you definitely are screwed with a 2wd truck with no weight in the back

Michelin tires. The only set I've ever had to file a warranty claim on. Even the tire salesman told me he's constantly having to file claims. The replacement set I got has started to dry rot. I think I got them in November of 2017.

I'll never buy another pair especially when there are so many other options. You could support one of the many American tire companies.

Hey fellow First Gen owners! Just wanted to introduce myself as I just joined!
Just recently purchased a 2004 Double cab limited with only 70k miles!! Been looking for while and finally found the one. She needs some work, but will be a fun little restoration project. First project was replacing the center carrier bearing. That thing was wore out! Now onto the next projects....

Everyone here could keep you and your wallet busy for days, trust me. TLC is just as important as mods and upgrades though. I personally don't have a build thread but that sub-forum is very good reading for ideas.

Roll down the back window and take a Q-tip to the track, try to clean out any dirt you can. Then spray a light amount of silicone spray on the tracks and roll the windows up and down. This can be done to your other four windows too.

Underneath the cab on the driver's side there is an adjustment point for the rear parking brake. The sheath on the cable that runs towards the front of the truck should pop off on both ends and you can add silicone grease directly onto the cable. Activate and release the parking brake to lubricate that cable, when you're done pop the sheath back on. Smooth pedal action.

LED dome lights, door lights, dash lights, climate cluster lights, third brake light, license plate light. Cheap and easy, modern looking, and they reduce battery draw. Pick your own color - most of mine are amber.

I'd sign up for a Toyota account and plug your VIN in too. That will tell you about any work that was done at a dealer and any possible recalls. My truck had recall work done on the lower ball joints and the airbags (which I need to go in and finish). https://www.toyota.com/owners/my-vehicle/vehicle-specification

Cooper was my go to. But their good car tires are now made in China. I refuse to support that country for anything more than stupid little LED lights... and even then.

I’ve had great luck with Michelin’s on this car. Their truck tires are absolute trash. The primacy tires I had were great for 4 years. These cross climates seem to be good too. I had the cheaper coopers on the corolla and they were great... only run coopers on the trucks. And the new corolla has some Japanese made yokos. Those have actually been surprisingly good... and yoko is the only tire I ever had to warranty on the taco

Nice. I'm running discount tires house brand, pathfinders highway terrain. Imo highway terrain will always give better on road grip then all terrain. Just makes the most sense for me, plus im a broke boy and the tires aren't super expensive. Was a step in the right direction as my old tires tread was just gone lol
