Genius. I'm doing this. I had pretty much decided to do the GX brakes when the time comes, this is just icing on the cake to have a job for the tundra calipers.

The Coastal is the best off the shelf solution.
If/When the time comes for my truck, I'd/I'll just build my own. Way less complicated than it looks if you keep it simple.

Personally, I'd keep the side protection at the length Addicted builds to. I've crushed bedsides on both my old Tacoma and Tundra - that tube definitely has value in regards to protection.
My front bumper is plate. Rear is some plate/tube hybrid ugly mf'er. Sliders are square tube mains with DOM outers :notsure:

Machine setup is pretty key. Pretend like you are a machinist. Cheap China tools usually give Cheap China results.

Yea unless it's a lot stronger than it looks I could see that just getting bent into the bedside.

If I ever get to the point of metal bumpers, I'm going to shamelessly copy this.
With a welder and an angle grinder and some patience, this can be done for <$500.

Maybe some day. It was definitely a rushed build with booger welds and heat related bends.

Edit - I forgot you have a BFF front bumper. Do they make a rear to match?
That's the route I took - a hybrid of Seanpistol and Rickashay... but mine is like the bastard stepchild version

Nice and simple. I like it.

They do and it looks great. I'm just trying to keep the weight down. Their version that requires cutting the bed is beefy.

@imDementeD has it on his rig.

That is a good looking bumper for sure! Again, totally personal preference, but I like the cut bedsides look - primarily when armor is replacing it.

What's your reason for keeping weight down with the rear bumper, out of curiosity? Compared to the smaller v6 Taco, I feel like these ol' v8s can haul around some added weight in the rear with zero noticeability. If you're mounting a spare on a swingout, you'll probably have a cantilever effect more than anything and feel it on concrete roads with gaps/spacing (i.e. new hwys or interstates) - but that's going to happen with any larger tire hanging off the back of a vehicle.

    Agreed.

Looks 'cool' but doesn't function as well otherwise.

Without that tie in towards the front of the wrap around it becomes a big piece that can/will fold inwards.

The V8 can handle it, but after adding all this weight and bigger tires, you can feel it. But my long term goal is to get a Vagabond camper so I want to avoid anymore unnecessary weight. I don't know that I need to go with the BFF option but it does look great. They also make one that doesn't offer side protection but has a swingout.

When I have the vents on inside, with the dial all the way to cold (but no ac on and not circulating inside air), I am getting warmish air, like warmer than the outside temperature.

    Is this normal?

Re-gear to give it back some life robbed from the metal and tars! That'd solve your loss of power feeling, especially once you throw a vagabond on there.

Speaking of, I'll be impatiently waiting for you to purchase one. :)

Thanks. I am thinking possibly the door in the vent ducting that moves when you hit the "recirculate air" button is not actuating.

Quick question about the A/C microswitch on the defrost settings. Keep in mind that i know nothing about HVAC systems.

Whats the idea behind it? What was the purpose?

The only thing I can figure is that it keeps the ac compressor in use to keep it from locking up over the winter times.

    @empty_lord @FrenchToasty @Professional Hand Model

If I like the idea behind it, I'll leave it alone. Was curious as to the why before I disconnect one side of the switch.

The switch disables re-circ on both defrost modes. Even if you turn off the A/C.

I find it annoying and disabled it. I prefer being able to run re-circ on foot/defrost and defrost. Re-circ has faster fan speeds available as well.

It’s been discussed somewhere in here, but I think it clicks on to help dry out the air that is being heated? I’ve heard it also gets mojo flowing.

Oh. I see. I didn't know, or remember it disabled the recirc mode. Faster mojo is always good too. :bananadance:

I think this one is next on my to do list.

@ Aerendel? did an exposé on this subject last year before he was disappeared. Personally, the Islands Climate favors keeping the factory set up. I can see where Himalayan Climates might favor the disable mod.

Dug up some cool history on Google, it looks like Koyo and Toyoda machine works have been working together since the early 1940's. They signed a merger agreement in 2005 and the brand JTEKT was created in 2006. I love automotive history.

I like the auto stories, some are crazy.

A farm and heavy equipment manufacturer was at a fund raiser 1 night rubbing elbows with the elite. Sitting at his dinner table was enzo ferrari. So he chatted up with enzo and was explaining an engineering tweak that he believed would make ferrari more reliable. Enzo didn't take the advice so we'll and told the gentleman to stick with building farm equipment and I'll stick to racing cars, and walked away. That's how Lamborghini was born
