I'm suddenly losing coolant too. I think the exhaust smells slightly sweet & I don't think I'm dripping anywhere - but it was a rush check in the dark.
Here's my thinking on WWYD. Park it until I can afford to fix it, or drive it until I get a check engine light indicating I've killed my 02 sensors.
My biggest concern with driving it is the spot the coolant is leaking may etch the metal, making a gasket replacement turn into at best some sanding, at worst some machine work, or worse worst - mechanic replaces gasket & ignores the etching & I get minor weep going forward further etching the metal & requiring a top off of fluids ....monthly(?). Topping off fluid after a new H.G. would make me crazy pissed off.

Honestly all driving it options are counter to keeping the truck long term.

I just don't have access to a good mechanic these days. I've pretty much decided (last night) that the truck is parked until I take it to a small shop that sees a lot of Asian vehicles. They've done good enough for me 2x in the past, so I'll hope for the best & bring it in for a proper diagnosis. Maybe it's only the o-ring on the bypass pipe.
Anyway - that's my thoughts. Running it broken just breaks it more with leaking coolant. Cheaper with better end result to park it until you fix it.

Any chance you have access to another truck & rent a car carrier, drag it down to the mechanic to do the gasket, then go back & get it when done? Big favor to call in, but sometimes friends amaze you.

A similar thing happened to my 2002 about 2 years ago, it turned out to be the plastic parts of the radiator cracking from age. I replaced the radiator, and that solved the problem.

Thanks for reply. Unfortunately letting it sit is not possible. I put on about 100 miles per day for work. will have 2-3 weeks off soon for the third baby, though, which is the time to do it.
I do have the sweet smell but not inside the cab and only for a couple minutes on cold start up.
I just picked up a bottle of K seal and adding it to coolant and going to keep an eye on things a little better for now.
I’m at 305k so this year some money will have to be thrown at it regardless.
Will be reaching out to my buddy today to put the feelers out.

I would paint it either Quicksand (I call it file cabinet tan) or monstaliner it army green. I just really like that body style.

I would go black but if I had one it would be a trail rig, and its hard to control the speed when black.

Hey I’m new here but I was wonder if anyone has put in led bulbs and their fog lights stopped working. I know it has to deal with how Toyota wired it but is there a fix?

Yeah, I'm alive. Big Buck, or Big Brother hasn't gotten me yet. Haven't had time lately to check back in here, or read. I'll have some catching up to do. I have been checking my PMs, but randomly.

Chevy went down, and then Pop's Nissan. Three people using two vehicles. Luckily, our schedules are offset by just enough for one of us to get home before the other needs to leave. We have about 15-20 minutes of wiggle room before the other is on the road again. Not a narrow window when two of us are commuting 50 miles one way. Lots of obstructions can happen in that mileage. (Wrecks, Deer, Tractors, Idiots, Amish, 5-0, Wham-Ba-Lam, Big Red Wee-Whoo Trucks.)

Things have been fucking bonkers lately. Need to get home early, and pull rear diff cover off on Chevrolet. Pops is hoping that a clip came off, and the repair will be fairly easy. He told me that it went poP, Pop, CLUNK, clink.... Gut instinct says rear diff went boooooom. Wet Rear pumpkin leads me to believe it finally seeped out enough fluid to generate friction, and slippage. I think the whole rear end is toast. Luckily, GM made a bazillion of those. Parts are plentiful at local pick-a-parts thanks to all these local Yee-Yee ass fellers.

@AzureNightmare That was fucking hilarious. Thank you for the laugh. I needed it.

Went to pick up my buddies snowblower.

I don't know who needs to hear this but keep your goddamn fingers out of the spinny parts. He got lucky and may only lose the tip of his middle finger.

We were talking about this level of stupidity yesterday.
Former coworker tried using a lawn mower as a hedge trimmer and trimmed the tips of his fingers.

Personally, I'm against all warning labels.

He's generally pretty good about stuff, wears the safety gear for using tools. In his defense a little he grew up in Scotland and never had experience with them until this year and was unaware there was an impeller under the chute. It's an old Toro built before they started putting the chute tool on them.

Trust me he can't get over how stupid he was, told him in the future don't put his fingers anywhere he wouldn't stick his dick
