Nervous about finding a shop to align it? You might have to drive a little ways but I bet there is someone around that can do it correctly. I took mine to a 4x4 shop and they got it right the first time.

I second Erik. I have faith there's someone nearby that can get you squared away. Just don't take it to a big box shop, unsupervised, and expect greatness is really what we're trying to get across.

I second this. Looking around at 4x4 shops first might be worthwhile. Alignment is one of those things you want done right and it's done infrequently enough it's worth going a little ways if you have to. I think my last alignment when I annihilated my driver's shock was around $80.

Both of you have fair points. Admittedly... I forgot all about that place I posted until right now.

I was planning on driving 1.5 hours to get to them anyways. I like to drive, and don't mind it.

It's from a local independent shop. He's $110/hr, most shops in town are $130/hr and the dealership is $165/hr.

We went to him for the first time for this insurance inspection. We were pretty happy with him and we'll go to him again for work that I don't want to or can't do myself.

Sadly I’m a many hour drive. Lol otherwise... I can align anything if given specific specs. (Or in the case of a tundra, know what I like when lifted)

Is this an acceptable place to put that ground for my ballast? I didn't see another option.

I told y'all my wiring game was weak. I've never had to ground anything in my life.

The stud to the left would be a better choice.

The stud to the left is closer to the body and if the stud and female threads in the body aren't painted it might be a decent ground.

The spot you are in doesn't have a clean path to unpainted body.

I would look at the top of the fender near where the hood touches, there might be a bolt there where you can sand the area down to metal and use that for your ground. There are a few factory grounds done this way on your driver side.

There is a bolt in the fender just above where your intake tube passes through if you can reach it. Otherwise I might pop the airbox off and look at what is close enough. There are a few pretty good spots to consider below your airbox. Try going direct to the body rather than going to a bracket attached to the body.

I was wondering about painted surfaces but all the grounds I can see are touching painted areas.

    1211201310_HDR.jpg

I see the one behind the air tube. Not sure I can reach it but I'll try.

Not sure if the hood would pinch this one but it's a lot closer.

    Like darkness said.
You want the shortest, least interrupted path to ground. Anything on the fender or firewall

While they are painted, usually the threads are what make contact with bare metal, so an eyelet under the screw is good to go

I think this might work. It's already unpainted.
So long as the hood doesn't smash it.

Yeah, that's the ticket Nice work boys. :hattip:

I can actually see through the crack and it's not touching the wire.

That should work, I might try to route a little like this to avoid pinching. Put the eyelet parallel to the fender and move the wire to drop down by the pad.

There should be a factory ground wire near that spot I would use

That is exactly what I did. Initially I ran it under the bumper but realized it would constantly be rubbing. The way you drew has it not even touching anything.

Should be good to install right up on the other ground bolt. Sand off the paint under the bolt and rub some Electrical Goo all around.

Just got this email from Blackstone. Last time I sent a sample I was using a cheap synthetic blend. So I guess oil quality does make a difference. No coolant in the oil.

How's the light output with the new ballast? I hope it's as significant as it was for mine.

So when the Skid Row plate is attached to the crossmember with the 3 bolts up front this is how far I am from mounting the back two bolts.

Even if I were to tap here, the rest of the progression is going to be/likely is off. The rest of this is all frame and not exactly just a bolt on swap out deal.

Where his wire is the factory grounds are out of reach. I remember going through this with my ballasts, driver side was a no brainer but passenger side took some consideration. Initially I went with under an airbox mounting bolt but I didn't like that. I can't recall where I went from there.

@jpink are you working with a rwd or 4x4? I'm not sure if access cab vs double cab is different but I think rwd has a different cross member near the trans. I have a similar issue with another brand trans plat for my rwd.

RWD. I recently replaced the front crossmember because it was bent but looks like this will require more than just that.

Actually, my mother’s coworker is going to sell him her 2004 with a brand new frame come January. So I’m good! Access cab, but works out for him. Body’s a wee bit rough in spots, but it’s a work truck for him to get things done around the farm now
