I call these ‘Roof Top Jigglers’. I wouldn’t trust just my bed, let alone a fiberglass cap, to any over extended weighted apparatus. Your fiberglass will crack. Just an opinion. Not meant to hurt feelings.

Sad thing - during a frame replacement, they will put that bumper hangar / bumper back onto the new frame. Ask me how I know. :anonymous:

    Wow.

This guy is asking $4k for his 2003 SR5. Been for sale for a few weeks. I’m betting the rest of the frame is toast. The stealership emblem on the tail gate is from the North.

me - I'd go for it. I see the cap as a tool, use it as you need it until it breaks. I won't baby a tool in fear of what could happen if I use it.
If you get cracks, you can fix them & not use it that way any more - or you could sell it cracked or repaired to someone that only wants it to keep the bed dry. But I say don't cheat yourself out of enjoying your truck from how you want to use it from what might happen. Good Luck!

I am going to reinstall my older just removed steering rack D-bushing (pass side). The Energy Suspension one has too much flex in it. Its moving around (squishing side to side) when observed with the eyeballs on.

The other 2 locations bushings have very slight play which is a design feature (I think?) due to the ‘hyper-flex technology’ advertising on the box.

This D-Bushing squishings doesn’t seem proper. Hoping the older stiff one being put back in will firm up the steer and eliminate the ‘squish movement’ of that bushing. I had no rack play with the older bushings. Currently, I have about 1/16” side to side. Good thing is this bushing is the easier of the three to swap.

Not a clue. Guy came in saying his transmission is bad because it only works in 4x4

New Toyota pig, new axle seals, new rear brakes and parking brake shoes (oil soaked) and 2 front calipers with brakes too.
Trucks neglected. Guy also needs transmission lines but he doesn’t want those

Decent deal considering all that work plus all new Toyota parts. He’ll be back with a bad transmission after his lines go. :D

Aftermarket calipers to keep cost down. And they gave him the internet price on the complete carrier.

I looked at several $3500-4500 Tundras that had frames like that, or worse, during my recent search.
It got to the point that if I found one for sale below $6500, I just assumed it was rotten underneath and would need a frame.
The other side of that coin is I'm not sure if I overpaid for my truck just because it has solid bones. No going back now.

Yeah, that's a drive. My Father-In-Law lives in Abbotsford - it's a 10hr drive from my house ... Each way... Assuming the mountain passes are clear.

I can do it in a little over 10 hours one way from GP in summer if I don't hit construction. Winter/spring it's pushing 12 hours one way. Makes for a really long day. If I had plans to get back for a visit, it'd he no problen. Time off is limited for me this year though and making a trip primarily for truck work isn't really feasible.

I'd live to find a shop in Edmonton. It'd be alot easier.

That's a haul! Surely there is a competent wrench turner in Edmonton or Calgary that wouldn't be terribly expensive?

Anyone have any suggestions.. I had my knuckle off to change my wheel bearing, and now I can’t get the lower ball joint bolt to thread on. It appears the first thread on the big bolt on the bottom of the joint is messed up.

I was thinking of using a die to cut the threads but I’m not sure if that’ll work.

Got it done using a die i bought at a local hardware store!

Calgary has some good shops, but also some pretty-high pricing too for some strange reason. The Gear Shop is one of the most-competent and knowledgeable about Toyota, but they're not cheap and tend to specialize in aftermarket - lift, suspension, etc.

Also - coming to Calgary is only about 3 hours shorter trip than going to Abbotsford, LOL. I'm not familiar with the Edmonton market, unfortunately.

I'm getting the feeling that you work at a Toyota dealership, or Toyota specialist shop. But yeah, now that you mention everything done and labor cost, it's in the ball park.

What aftermarket mfr calipers did you guys at Toyota use? I will use them cause that says a lot when a Toyota dealership's mech shop will choose those instead of their own. Very decent of your shop to do that to help the customer out. Your place is definitely not in S.E. FL, Lol.

I bought some PowerStop reman’d Toyota WL13 calipers for about $100 each. NAPA has new aftermarket ones for $130 each.

Saw some scary larry remans for $80 a pair online with good reviews!

@empty_lord how did those old calipers you took off look? Must have been bad to need replacing.

They were both seized solid on inboard bottom pistons

we won’t rebuild because of the rust issue. Otherwise I’d quote caliber rebuilds all the time

Will add that out of the hundreds of Napa callipers we’ve installed, I’ve only had to warranty claim 3. They’re good for the price. Not perfect like shinny new Toyota callipers. But 1/5th the price. And they’re painted black. So they don’t look like shit 1 month later

Sounds about like my pistons. All 4 inboards were seized (locked up and not braking) plus at least one outboard. I got the PowerStop unpainted calipers and did the painting myself. Saved $$$.

What did you pay if you don't mind my asking?

I have power stop in the cart for calipers rotors and pads (14WAs). Looking at napa, they are only $75 cheaper and not powder coated.

They've been the long standing choice for parts among mechanics going back before I learned 40 yrs back. Not surprised to hear it's them for second choice of parts in a dealership.
