Another good one I never seem to remember is “Big Boys Race Our Young Girls But Violet Generally Wins” to remember the color bands on resistors and their values.

Transmission shop just called me, they say that solenoid E likely needs to be replaced and that it'll be $500. I gave them the go ahead. I'm a little bit skeptical, but I'm not sure what other option I've got at this point.

It's about time they called, it's been two full weeks.

I assume you let them know that’s been done twice already, and asked them what recourse you have if it suddenly goes bad again? I’m curious what they’ll tell you would cause E to fail back to back.

Yeah, they're aware that it's had solenoid issues before. I was in class when they called me so I didn't have very long to talk to them, but I'm going to call again later today to ask what specific diag has been done. The guy on the phone mentioned that they might be dropping the valve body- which I don't think has been done before. I told him that they absolutely need to use an OEM solenoid from the dealership, which he assured me they would do.

The last time I had an issue with solenoid E specifically was at least 2 years ago. Last time I had a solenoid issue it was solenoid A. I don't know. I'm going to make sure to let them know that I'll be back if it has an issue again.

Is purchasing soundproofing worth it? I'm installing a couple of PowerBass OE-700 front speakers and have seen people recommend adding some sound proofing while the door panel is off, but have also heard it makes minimal difference. Would love to hear anyone's opinions/product recommendations.

I think that it does help with the door trim rattle and such. Vibration absorption. Some nicely placed felt pads will also do the trick for any pinpoint rattle noises as seen on my speaker in the photo below.

    UPDATE: just called them again.

I talked to the owner this time, who was also the person that test drove the truck.

He said that during the test drive, the computer was commanding lockup for a second, then it would immediately turn lockup off and throw a pending P0773. If the pending code was cleared, it would do the same thing. Command lockup for a second then turn off. He said that this was really odd, since normally the computer will try a bunch of times before giving up and throwing a code.

He also said that he doesn’t think anything is wrong with the transmission physically. He told me that all the other sensors and switches related to the transmission were working normally on the test drive.

I don’t believe that they have pulled the pan or valve body yet. Apparently they’re super short staffed at the moment, that’s why he wanted to replace the solenoid as a first step instead of spending the time to diag if it was good or not. He’s worried that it’ll cost a bunch in diag time just for the solenoid to be bad. I told him to do whatever he thinks is best, but I absolutely need the truck back by the middle of next week.

Sound proofing is definitely worth it. But it’s less an insulator as it is a vibration dampener. You want to apply some to the outer door skin from inside. With the door card off, have the window rolled up to get access. Your adding mass, you don’t have to wallpaper the whole door. So a sq.ft. Or two is plenty. The inside door skin or frame portion can also benefit from some. Most will cover the area the speaker mounts to and cutout the speaker opening to help create air separation as well.

Anyone got a tip on non-VVTI cam seal? Everything I see when searching seems to refer to VVTI 2UZ's. I'm trying to find the part numbers while I'm amassing parts right now, and a good guide to doing the replacement.

I just saw the Discount Tire has my Cooper AT3XLT tires in 295/75R16 marked as discontinued. I wonder if they'd honor my certs in a different size or a different Cooper tire. Both? Hmmm
Looks like in that size they have.

    I'm going for the KO3s here soon-ish.

It's odd that discount tire is the only place that I've seen them in stock. I wonder why that is.

Not in the size I have now. But I'll have to ask DT next time I destroy a tire. I have no clue what accomodations, if any, that they'd give me for my certs, when they discontinued my tires in my size.

Take the terra grapplers off the list. One of the worst tires in the rain. I'm a big fan of my Toyo at3's. I've put 40-45k on them and they have so much life left.

Honestly I'm hoping that I've got the body lift installed by the time I shred a 295 and maybe I can convince DT to give me a 34x10.5r17 or 35x11.5r17 instead.

Previous owner was supposed to cut those tabs off. You’re only supposed to leave the tabs you need intact. Sometimes that means leaving up to 3-4 tabs to mount to the speaker, 3-4 to mount to the stock housing. But it looks like they used a too-small housing adapter also.

Best sound deadening advice I’ve seen on this forum. I’d add a couple things…

Get a good roller to install. Seriously. Ideally one with a ball bearing with roughly a 1” roller.

Thickness, in mils, matters. More thickness adds more weight. Weight is what you want to achieve, not coverage.

Noico, Kilmat, Siless, there’s a ton of solid brands that aren’t as overpriced as Dynamat but work 90%+ as effective.

Depends on how many cans you use ;)

Sweet! Thanks for that. The PO failed to put in some of the door hardware too, so I'll be replacing some odd and in hardware. When I got the truck originally the right front lock cylinder wasn't even bolted in. It was just floating loose, hah.
