This ties back into a specific conversation with @Ckat recently over here. You know, you were in it. Sounds almost like this is status-quo.

This is what I saw being used. He first tried a prybar, but no joy.

Good link. Thing is I don’t feel the extreme draw or change in power as described in that conversation. I can feel a slight difference in driving power, but not much. I do notice the dash change 4%, though.

I give him a 6.5. Could've been an 8 if he'd have ironed the gloves first.

Any reccos on the pulley puller?

How about the fan clutch puller? I want to replace this and understand there is a special tool for this job, as well.

Hamilton Beach makes an excellent Rice Steamer. Use CalRose Brand Rice. Make sure you rinse the grain 6 times before steaming the Rice. You will make Sensei proud.

That's where I'd start and experiment a little lower if you're needing more traction. Having a decent compressor will also be helpful to air things back up.

You'll have fun. Bring a snatch strap just in case.

Pro tip: whenever you stop or park, try to do so with your front end aiming downhill. Easier to get going again without burying yourself.

Are you also looking to change the crankshaft and camshaft seals? I cringe having to shell out $100 for the install kit with the stacking rings:

Yes. I’ll be replacing both Cam Seals and the one Crank Seal. From the one youtubes vid I watched on this topic, the mechanic didn’t use a special tool for the install. Think he used a PVC type fitting and made sure he tapped it flush.

To remove the seals, he had a Lisle Seal Puller (brand new for vid) but chucked it in lieu of using a large nail and pried them out. He looked to be a pro mechanic with a shop. The 4.7L was pulled out and on an engine holder device.

I was thinking of custom 3D printed sleeves that would be better than the PVC pipe, but I can't find any freely downloadable designs. I'd offer to print them up for free if anyone here can design them or grab free designs to download.

Hmm, nail trick is interesting. I have that Lisle tool sitting in my Amazon cart.

Yeah. Something custom would work. I’ll need to watch that video again. It was Part 1 of 3 in a Series. Didn’t watch the others yet. I’m wondering if using the old seal as a backer combo’d up with the PVC fitting would work with pounding it in. For some reason, I don’t remember it being that difficult to install.

I don't think it's hard to install the new seal, but you want to avoid ruining it or creating gaps if doesn't go in squarely. Those tools seem excessive. Even Timmy ended up hammering in the crank seal.

I used a pvc coupling on my rear axle seals. They work good. As for using the old seal, it might be hard trying to get it, the new seal, a coupling, and a hammer all lined up with only two (golden) hands in that tight space. Unless you're pulling the radiator too.....

I have faith in you. I imagine itll take you a bit longer, seeing how every not and bolt will need to be thoroughly cleaned and labeled before being replaced. Much feather dusting will be done.

He will strictly rinse his parts in Tahitian rain and blow them dry with a genuine Caribbean sea breeze, then carefully apply a few dabs of imported coconut oil imported from Oceana to prevent rust.

This must be the video you are referring to. He used a nail punch to puncture the large rubber flappy part of the camshaft seal and pull it out. I didn't realize our V8's seals don't resemble typical camshaft/crankshaft seals. I suppose you can use a spring hook to do that.

To install the seals, he just used some special yota seal compound and used his hands to push them in, lol.

I also saw that he used a special harmonic balancer / pulley tool to extract the crankshaft wheel. "usually a brass hammer with light tapping will get it out, but this one is stuck"

Yep. Thats the vid. Looks straight forward on the Seals remove/install. The punch/pry worked really nice versus the Special Puller that he had flopping around.

I really like your idea of the coconut oil from Oceana, but thinking a cold pressing of Organic Olive Oil from Italia might be in order. This would balance out the Globull Weighting Distribution from equidistant parts of the Wurrld.

Been thinking about my truck not starting last week and I really think Seafoam had something to do with it. I had just poured seafoam in the gas tank and 6oz in the crankcase. Reading online some people feel it's risky to pour it into an old engine because it can free up large carbon deposits which can then do things they shouldn't do. The fact that my truck has never done anything like that before or after makes me think that was the issue. I may stick to just using Seafoam in the gas tank occasionally.

ngl, this is the exact generation of Camry my now-wife had in green when we met, and it's the car that turned me into a Toyo-fan. That car was damn near unbreakable, absurdly reliable and so cheap to maintain it was silly.
