Love my first gen Tacomas! Parted with my 01 RC PreRunner today. Sold it for exactly what I paid for it 5 years ago. IMG_2533.jpg Had to make room for the new addition. 95 RC SX :)IMG_1884.jpgIMG_1889.jpgIMG_1888.jpg

Unfortunately no. :( I too was on the hunt for one. I only found one really clean one, white w/blue interior, mint condition for ridiculous $$$ :eek2: The other two, sadly, were totally clapped out. This one was all original, clean, and only $3500 sooo...

    What's rust? :D

What color are you painting the Tacoma? Keeping it original? Or something new like you did on the Tundra? Like Cavalry, Voodoo, or Dune..? o_O

Tacoma is staying imperial jade mica.
it is by far my favorite color. ever.
i almost painted the tundra army green or imperial jade. but ultimately chose grey since it was already grey i love the look!

Agreed. I test drove a new one back in 2013 and even for me(small guy) the seats were terrible. It was a 4 door but the back seat was almost useless. The 04-05 Double Cab Tundra's really were the perfect size for someone that actually needs to haul passengers.

I have a theory that this is because Americans just keep getting bigger. Nearly 40% of us are clinically obese. It really hit home when I visited Europe last year. The fattest person I saw in Amsterdam would be considered "normal" here. Most guys buying a new Tundra probably couldn't fit in a early Tacoma.

Question about installing new steering rack bushings:

    1) Should I lock the steering wheel prior to performing job?

Energy Suspension (bushing manufacturer) says yes, but I’ve not seen anyone on some of these DIY links say they did or not. Some reported alignment needed after install and others say they were fine with their alignment post install. I wonder if the steering wheel pre-locking is the key to not needing an alignment after.

@Professional Hand Model I didnt lock my steering up, I don't see a need to. As far as alignment goes if your previous bushings were beat to hell then this will likely change alignment. Picture a sagging bushing letting your rack sit an extra 16th of an inch to the side, that's probably a spin of the tie rod.

I got alignment done on mine after, just to avoid worrying about tire wear.

You're not disconnecting the steering shaft so there's really no need to.

This was my thinking, as well. Darkness makes a good point not considered. My existing bushings are new(er). Their is no play in them. Not sure who made them or how new because I don’t remember them ever being a problem in the past , or being replaced. By current looks, they are not in bad shape compared to some online pictures I’ve seen of others that were replaced circa 2009-present.

My current setup on the truck is missing the washer between the cross member and rack on the driver side per Energy Suspension instructions. Toyota diagram shows no washer on that backside, but one on the front.

I’m going to just replace them and put the new washer between the cross member per Energy Suspension along with the OEM washer opposite side as spec’d. I’ll lock up the steering wheel as instructed. The main thing per others is to jack the wheels off the ground to allow movement play on the rack for bolts removal/install.
