Given where he lives, he'll have more below freezing nights to come. But I also been telling him to do this for like two years. I'm not saying it'll happen over night. I'm saying it'll happen if you rinse repeat.

That reminded me of this scene from Live and Let Die. Something like this had never been done with a boat before. Joey Chitwood, Jr. was the stuntman who performed the stunt. I met him once when I was ~10 yrs old. I was in awe. Lol! He was very nice.

The early Bond films really are good and stand the test of time if one can get past the old-school look.

I also misspelt Joey's name. It actually ends with an "ie". Been a long time. Lol.

I got the box set on Blu-ray two Xmas ago.
As a kid, the best part of having cable in December was the 15 Days Of 007 on TNT, I think it was. Maybe TBS or USA...
My first Bond film was GoldenEye because it was new at the time. But growing up in the 90's with cable meant I watched a lot of oldies, that were all new to me. Older quality picture never phased me. Especially back when we were all using CRT TVs.

Lately I been on a 90's media kick. Grunge and ECW have been my jam for months now haha. Some is nostalgia, while the rest is just catching up on what I missed because I was a kid.

Spy Who Loved Me is probably my fave, then Live and Let Die. I lived near Norwich (home of Lotus) at the time the movie came out and was just a young kid, but they would show one of the movie cars around the town at the time.

Knight Rider, The A-Team, McGyver, and C.H.I.P.s were my favroites as a kid.

The Spy Who Loved Me is tied with Moonraker for my second fave of Moore's Bond films. Both have Jaws.

Just speaking from a couple years in the frozen tundra up here, our ground constant is around 55deg.
Frost on undisturbed areas will go down 6-8, maybe 12" in a cold snap.
On areas where you have traffic, heavy weight traffic, it will drive it down several feet.
I bet your constant ground temp down there is around 60deg.
Even if the temps got down to zero that's a huge mass of heat (esp in rock) to overcome. I bet only a couple inches of the surface/water would freeze.
You might get some flakes off if you shocked it with cold water while it was super hot.

So if I'm understanding this, the issue is it's a rock hole, not a rock hill.

I still think cycling fire and water/ice is the way to go, a long with some heavy strikes with a pickaxe for good measure.

Or fill it with water, toss a block of dry ice in it and cover it with a round trough.

I don't think hill or flat or hole makes much diff.
Holes drilled around the perimeter and pressure, wedges, explosives :bananadead:
Working with the grain, if there is any would help.

Well y'all are insisting it won't freeze the water because it's two foot deep, yeah?

Not sure if that's because two feet of water won't freeze in time or if because it's two feet below the earth.
Maybe don't fill it more than two inches. Wait and see if it drains into the rock/ground, add more as necessary.

Either way he's already heated the rock so much that his opportunity is probably gone for a day or two, without the dry ice

Ok fuck it, fill it with water and toss in pure Na

If it's two feet deep, the warmer ground around it will be absorbing the heat out of the rock until it reaches equilibrium. If it's above ground, the air (and surface the rock is touching) will be absorbing the heat out the rock.
