I can manhandle this one, but a hoist would be easier. Luckily it onlyhas to move a few feet.
    IMG_8918.jpg

This one, i dont stand a chance as a mortal without crystal vibration. But if i can hoist it 3 ft or so i can drive it the 500ft it needs to move, then hoist it down & articulate it into a lit-up address block. Might even use the 'heart rock' to stand it on end. 8' tall & bulletproof.

    IMG_8919.jpg

yea, manhandled the 500ish lb 'heart rock' up 2ish ft with muscles. If it had balanced better it'd be standing. Its a different rock than the 1st pic. That rock is over 18" thick.

could i run a throttle? Something that starts at 8v & ramps to 15ishv

badland zxr 12k. Less than $200 with the HF coupon.

the big rock is probably quite a bit lighter than that. I can make a short cable, so i dont have to waste the wraps. The straps holding the rocks will have some give, too.

And you're guesstimating that the rock...i mean boulder weighs about 5 tons? Never the less, the brake on the winch should easily handle whatever load you ask of it to do.

guesimating the big rock might be 3 tons, i was exagerating. But curious if i can build my hoist of 4x4's or if it'll need to be heavier. The whole thing will be able to be carried with the 5.5' ranger bed.

    Weight reduction, mostly rust.
I'd step up to 6x6 with those weights. I assume your talking about a tripod type hoist? Or are you doing some cantilevered lever lifting?

Coming from 1st hand experience, i wouldn't even attempt to load an 800 pound rock in the bed of any pickup. The reason being is that a hard rock will put all of it's weight onto one pinpoint spot and would crush the sheetmetal bed. We tried this in a friend's old mitsubishi pickup with closer to a 500 pound rock and it totally messed up both his bed and tailgate. He was super bummed, but all the rest of us who were helping him was laughing at him (we're all good friends, so it was ok to laugh). If you still want to proceed, then i'd layer up the bed with at least 4 sheets of 1/2" plywood to help distribute the force of the boulder. Better yet is to use a trailer with plywood stacked underneath the rock.

The boulder only weighs 1323 pounds.
Dry concrete is 150 pounds per cubic foot. You do the math.

You mean like this? It did indeed dent his bed and do a little damage on the way out. I was surprised how little squat there was though.

    Merry Xmas best gen crew.

    Who got truck parts?
Pretty sure I didn't. But I have a problem with spending too much on myself (my trucks) around this time of year. I don't need any help from Santa.
