    Thanks, will do.
I'd do it all right now if I could, but it would take me a weekend just to get all my motorcycle parts out of the garage to get the truck in there to work on it in the dry. Currently have rain forecast for the next 9 days, so it's just a pain in the ass to work on any vehicles outside during the winter in the PNW. If I can figure out what it needs for now, I'll order the parts and take it to a shop I know and let them do it on a lift. Really need to find a good Toyota shop here.

I get it, I have 3 bikes. Lol! Just judging from the images and your description of the double-clunk, I would concentrate on upper and lower ball-joints. However, it is entirely possible it could be worn control arm bushings, as well.

I have dry space. I have so little time. Could trade shop space for help at a later date. I have a few spare parts but most are at Jason’s in so cal. I have a shop Jack and stands but no lift yet. Would be nice to have one.

Do you have any other symptoms? Vibration at various speeds? Unsmooth turning? Anything else other than *clunk, clunk*?

20241211_155159.jpg Image of lower control arms replaced 9 months ago that were the cause of a lot of issues. Had ~ 200k on them. Note the near-total degradation of them that isn't visible while mounted. Not saying this is your issue, just an example.

Nope, I only noticed it today while driving with the window down and the stereo pretty low, otherwise I doubt I would have really noticed it. Haven't noticed it previously, steering feels fine, it still tracks straight, no vibrations. I've driven my buddy's first gen taco where all the bushings are shot, and it doesn't feel or sound anything like that, that thing is a death trap.
I'll try getting a jack under it tomorrow, not gonna happen today, and see if there's any play with it up in the air.

Yes, those sway bushings are fucked and also way over-tightened.

If you're 100% positive it's coming from the front, and you're positive it's not the LBJs, the other biggies that would cause this I'd be looking at are:
    • Lower shock mount bushings: Make sure they didn't blow out.
    • Steering rack bushings: Inspect those, see if anything is clearly blown.
    • Upper/lower control arm bushings: Not so easy to check the lowers, but a prybar wedged in the right place and pushed up/down can check for play on LCA, maybe on UCA but UCA bushing quality may be visible as-is
Consider jacking up the car on one side until the tire is 1" off the ground. Tuck a prybar under it and watch the LBJ and LCA for play as you lift and drop the tire 1"-2". Then throw your stock bottle jack under the LCA until it engages and lifts at least an inch, so the LCA is under tension. Repeat.

I'd also check to make sure the little plastic round spacers are still intact between the tips of EVERY leaf in your leaf spring pack, they should be obvious ... they'd cause a clunk or hit with every flex of the spring, but that would be coming from out back (it'll also cause squeaking)

My leaf packs have been super quiet since I greased them up between the leafs. Have not done the "leaf spring end tip wear pads" yet. The clunk I was hearing felt like it was under my feet btw, very misleading. But I was only getting it while turning, nothing over bumps (that I detected anyway). I would imagine a blown out bushing in either end of the leaf spring could cause a clunk like that? @Upshot Knothole Can you determine if it is the front by hearing that clunk before the rear wheels hit the bump? Just spitballin, those clunks are so annoying....

Oh shit. Did you check your steering shaft seal? Check this guy's out: https://www.tundras.com/posts/3113946

It's easy to check. Get under the truck with a flashlight. Find the near-vertical part of the steering shaft coming out of the firewall. Look at hte rubber around it. Obviously you should be able to check from inside too, but I can't recall if you need to pull back sound deadener to see.

Repair thread here, with pics of what you SHOULD see from inside: https://www.tundras.com/threads/diy-steering-shaft-seal.48664/

Can't say positively for sure, I was mainly getting the clunk if going kinda fast over the speed bumps and at that point front rebound and rear compression are pretty close to each other.
What I can say is that I was in a parking garage earlier before driving home. Window open, stereo off, nothing. Gotta have the steering at almost full lock a couple of times to get out of that parking garage and I'd hear any squeaks or groans coming from stuff in there, and it was totally silent. Then drove home with the window down and didn't hear anything. No noise when i pulled up onto the curb either to park(Narrow streets, mostly not white trash).
I just had a sports bike on a hitch carrier on the tow hitch of my truck a few weeks back, probably 600 lbs on the hitch, and leaf springs were silent. I don't think it's anything back there.

Went back out to look under the truck tonight and I had totally forgotten about this, I need to throw a jack under the exhaust and get that back on the rubber mount. I did look around a little with a flashlight, but couldn't see any marks from it hitting. CDB00722-685D-438D-BF1E-080274C9EB3D_1_102_o.jpg

Skip the jack. Get a ratchet strap.

Ratchet the two post end up to the one post end and slide the rubber over the single when at the right height. Consider some lube if required, spit don’t work with cars like it does with people.

Jacking on the exhaust could smush or dent something. Jacking on cars is also doesn’t work like jacking on people. Ain’t life grand?

Mine did this frequently for some reason, and caused weird clunking noises that I couldn't replicate or diagnose. A small hose clamp on the end of the post fixed it.

The poor man’s rust removal is electrolysis. Google search it. I’ve used it many times with great success. Good chance that you already have everything laying around the house to make it happen.

I love bags! I have them in most of my vehicles. I just installed a pair in my tundra last week. I was just getting ready to post up on my install in my “tacoed tundra” build thread…

i know all to well about acid. There was an incident way back in high school where i dropped acid…literally. The principal did allow me to come back to school my senior year though. The electrolysis is pretty cool too. Lots and lots of bubbles that happen instantly. It removed ALL the rust off of my hood latch assembly on my 71 ford f250. I then sprayed Ospho over the bare metal and it instantly turned a fairly bright silver color. There was little to no labor involved.

@BroHon you need shell T handles? I bought a full set on fleabay and then swapped shafts for the longer ones I needed and got my T’s all cleaned up. Want the link? Or my leftover takeoff parts?

I've tried twice since I got off work tonight at 1, to set Elvira's new 0-60mph record, since it's 36°F. But she keeps burning out. I hate this TrueTrac. I bet if both tires spun, she'd hookup fast enough for me to hit at least 5.9sec.

Mighty nice of you David :hattip:thx.
I don't even know what size they are... are they all standard diameter? And I'm not gonna lie, the more I think about it (locks), and how my fuel door froze up and I couldn't open the door one time... I might leave well enough alone. Also I have no garage and today winter arrived. :burp:

If that true trac is anything like the traclok in the vic, you need more power. Remember when I got on the access road and did a quick clutch dump? What rpm are you launching at?

I'm not launching it, just hitting the gas. The TrueTrac never locks both tires so I'm not getting enough traction, because it only locks the tire with the most traction. Fucking one wheel peel BS
