Update. I have removed the "dome" fuse from the fuse box on both my Tundras. the "door ajar" light does not come on under any circumstances. I'll live with them this way and post further update if there is any problem.

I enjoy watching technicians on youtube, tiktok, etc diagnose issues on cars, especially electrical issues. Frequently these issues are CAN network or CAN bus related.

Got me thinking. Do our trucks have any CAN electrical/communication components? I can't think of any.

    There are? Which modules?

I don't really know much about CAN network stuff.

I was really just seizing the opportunity to be punny.

CANBUS systems weren’t required in cars in 2000 and didn’t show up in Tacomas till 2005. The same is likely true of the Tundra based on the headlight behavior difference between the 2000-2004 models and the 2005-2006.

This is what I was suspecting. Didn't realize the 00-04 and 05-06 headlight wiring was different. Huh.

Fog light switch moved to the stalk around that time and the LED bulbs behave differently in them.

The ShitCAN network? It’s supposed to be superior to the ISO 9141 stuff the early year Tundras had. Faster, greater noise immunity and more peripherals on the same bus.

Of course that all goes out the window if the impedance of the bus or its termination is compromised.

So there is a system where modules are talking to each other?

Depends upon the vehicle. I don’t know that level of detail but obviously the ECU with the other modules and your OBD2 device and what’s on the network if you address it correctly. I’m sure there’s a lot more going on. It’s full duplex communication unlike the early stuff which was half duplex.

Edit: I was mistaken; the CAN bus doesn’t use a full duplex topology for cars but it is capable of it.

Today’s road find. Not sure what’s going on, don’t usually find a lot of stuff on the road. 16awg Amazon basics 100ft roll of speaker wire. Once again, doubt it’s worth more than $20, dunno when I’ll ever use it but, free is free I guess?

Come to the PHX area and you'll find lots of free stuff on the road. Aluminum ladders, tires, tire & wheel assemblies, concrete blocks, Palo Verde branches, massive, dense wooden planters, all kinds of goodies. Oftentimes with free delivery at 70-80 mph.

I see the cast in mock lock as a bonus. It will make the entire lip on the wheel way bunches stronger! I’m being serious too.

ugh…so tempting! I’d love to rock 4.30 with my lil’ 215/85-16 tires. I’ll just have to make do with my current 4.10’s.

Yeah I think 4.30 on my 265/60r18's would be awesome, until I needed to drive across the state and got similar mileage to my 4wd.
