I'm sure you'll be fine but make sure your coolant is topped off.

That Hercules was a killer for $20! I've always used Irwin or Dewalt. I think I may add a couple of the Hercules to the box. One thing I've noticed, Irwin sells a pack of 3 in various tapers, I've managed to snap off the long skinny-taper Irwins more than anything. Have yet to break a Dewalt before it dulls.

Oh, and that Project Farm YouTube channel is by far one of the best out there for people who want to learn about tools, mechanics, etc. It's highly underrated. I'm constantly sending his SeaFoam videos to people. He really does a methodical job with everything, doesn't hide anything, and is just "real". Super refreshing!

This is what I've always heard them called. Unibit, aka "One-bit-fits-all".

You need at least one in your toolbox, you should buy it today. There is no better or more appropriate product for boring out a hole to a larger size, period, hands-down, no question.

I first learned about unibits when I got my first audio installer job at age 16. I made fun of the guy who owned the shop (stupid kid move) for his funny drillbits. Quickly learned why he used them. You can custom cut any variety of holes quickly, cleanly, even countersunk in thicker metals for using tapered-head hardware. Cuts through firewalls exceptionally fast for running amp power leads.

The only thing I've found that'll cut faster and more efficiently is a sharp Greenlee knockout punch. But a unibit will make any hole under 3/4" in less than 1 minute whereas you'll be pre-drilling to use that knockout punch.

(btw, knockout punches are a must-have too, if you work with steel regularly)

That thing will clean up nicely. You can paint it to match for under $300 and have it looking brand new. Free score! Nice.

Keeping the color as it matches my bros. Tundra, but the clear coat is peeling... can just the clear coat be redone? The rubber is dry, would you use 303 or something else to make it supple again?

This is what I use. We have the bigger cups in another kit. This thing combined with the big impact is great.

That's waaaaay bigger than what I've got. I've just got a small Greenlee box kit with 4, ranging from ½" to about 2", I think it's the Greenlee 735BB. Stole it for a little over $40 on eBay back in '05 from someone in NC, they were going upwards of $80-120 back then. Looks like only one cutter in my kit had ever been used before. looks like you can get them all day long for $50-60 on eBay today in fair used shape.

Yes it is. Had that ramen quite a few times and enjoyed it tremendously. So glad we got on their program pre-covid as it kept things simple in terms of shopping or ordering in. Our lifestyle really didn’t change much in terms of food, as veggies were alway there.

You've received all good replies, even the one to rethink coming here! But as mentioned, check all your fluids (bring extra), have plenty of water for yourself as well as your truck. Every time I go upstate I see vehicles pulled over on the side of the road on the 6-7% grades, mostly vehicles that are towing. I run Toyota recommended tire pressures in this heat with no issues. Lower pressure will cause more heat buildup, exactly what you don't want. Hopefully you have tinted windows and one of those windshield reflector thingys if you're going to be parked in the sun.

Either one couldn't hurt, both would be ideal if you have the room. If you have a hose/radiator failure, just some distilled water might be OK to get you to a short distance like an auto parts store and you wouldn't have wasted your spare coolant. Both might get you a little further but probably not too far. If you have both but don't need them, you can always drink the distilled water. Don't drink the coolant no matter how thirsty you may get! ;)

    hey guys
not mechanically dumb but no vet either - know enough to get by; when something isn't right by sound or feel.
Came across something recently about weak points with our 1st gens

    2nd gear sprag brake
never heard of this piece before
just wondering if anyone has had one fail / know people / etc
Is it truly a weak point to worry about? Haven't seen anything here.
My truck is running and shifting fine
approaching 300 and don't want any surprises

Just Ohmed out a few of my remaining OEM, and a few of my remaining replacement incandescent 74s.

All read right around 12.2 ohms.

Highest reading on one bulb being 13.5 (slightly burnt)

Lowest reading being 11.9 (not burnt)

I'm wondering if a 10 ohm resistor could be soldered onto the led bulb to make the check engine light, low fuel, and maybe the battery light.

Anyone got any input on this crazy idea?

I don't know what the 2nd gear "sprag" is but the early 1st gens were known to have a weak planetary gear but it only seemed to impact a small number of trucks and seemed to happen early. We've only seen 1 member report having the planetary gear issue.

Don’t waste your time resistors get hot And can cause issues with that. Plus you ruin then fact LEDS are power efficient.
