So it's time for a new washing machine. Our Samsung has been fine for 8 years but it's rusting out up top. Anyone got any suggestions for a new top loader? I know people like Speed Queens but I've heard mixed things. A friend bought one and doesn't recommend it. We're going to snag one for sale on Labor Day. Lowes always has huge appliance sales.

    Maytag? Whirlpool?

Well, I guess it pays to pop covers open. All I need is a cable from one of these ports to my laptop and I can do some data logging.

We recently took the plunge into the Speed Queen world. We specifically went with the 7 series, the TR7. FUCKING LOVE IT. We're 13 months in. No issues at all. Cleans like a champ. https://www.bobbaileys.com/products/Speed-Queen/spq/tr7003wn.html

That's the one we bought. I think the 5 series has a 5yr warrant and 7 series has a 7r? Anyway, would not return. We already had issues with our Maytag at this point. And it took about 2yr for the Whirlpool it replaced to have issues.

Would highly recommend the 7 series specifically.

Does anyone want this? It gets power, the touch switches all light up, but it will not turn on. I will send the old harness with it. LMK

Pinouts would need to be double checked. But double cab can likely swap with sequoia. I know access cab and regular cabs cannot be for sure though

What was the name of the thread that was for aftermarket parts that were worth it.

I’m going to add Moog Sway bar links. The old style remained tight and the bushings are still firm and not cracked. They have 115k on them and are 4 years old and cost $42 for both sides.

I just did brakes and added a 1/4” spacer to the driver side to level out my truck so I pulled these as I thought they would be trashed and I added the Moog new style with the white bushing things. The old Moogs were like new. Way better than $600 to replace with OEM.

It's just weird. They are less efficient and loud but I guess people like them for the reliability? My buddy got one and his broke within a year. But they paid to have it fixed.

We're now into year 21 of our GE analog washing machine. The tub bearing is getting louder but it still spins. If and when it finally screeches to a halt I'll find another analog to replace it. I have never seen any digital washer that held up and I won't touch one with a stick.

That ^^ is ultimately what I wanted to know. I was (am) fairly certain the bulkhead behind the cluster is different pinout for AC/RC than DC. I've got that stuck in my head when I was digging thru diagrams trying to figure out how hard it'd be to adapt the DC roof wire harness I have into my AC so I could capitalize on overhead temp/homelink mirror.

I still have the DC fully-loaded roof harness and an OEM adapter harness that allows you to add pins for that shit also, but I'm too lazy to pull my A-pillar and cluster to pave the way on how to do it. If I had a reason to pull the cluster, like doing a cluster upgrade, that'd be the motivation I needed.

It's easily 30-40% quieter than the Maytag top-load unit we had prior, so maybe I'm biased. You'll be hard pressed to find another manufacturer who warranties parts and labor for 3, 5 and 7 years for the 3, 5 and 7 series respectively. 3 maybe. 5 hardly. 7? Nah.

We've been happy, and knock on wood, no problems. No mildew buildup problems like the frontload Whirlpool (or Frigidaire, I forget) we had before the Maytag. The front load I had to replace the boot twice due to mildew and the pump once, we finally got sick of that shit after 8-9 years. Got the Maytag in topload variety because we were told it'd last forever without need for service, which was technically true, but it didn't get our clothes as clean, and after 3-4 years, the paint was bubbling because it was rusting everywhere. It started leaking out the bottom about 6-7 years in, and smelling like mildew also, despite us leaving the lid open religiously after washes.

So far, the SQ washer has been a solid choice. It feels commercial quality. It gets our clothes clean. The auto-fill-level feature is nice and saving us on water. The set-and-forget keypad is convenient for the kids and visitors to do laundry (it remembers the last setting). When I'm washing my shop towels, I only need to run once using the SQ, a lot of times the Maytag required two runs, so the SQ is definitely saving us on water in more ways than one.

Before buying, I thought people were just saying "it's the shit!" to justify spending the extra. But color me impressed. Maybe my tune will change in another year or two, but so far, I'm more than averagely pleased.

Word of advice now that I’m on my 3rd set of Moog stabilizer links. They seem to last 5-7 years before coming apart and needing replacement (my experience), however they’ve replaced all of mine under their lifetime warranty. Hopefully they still offer that.

A friends son got a job tearing down Dodge Cummins diesel engines getting them ready for rebuild. He was getting $75 for each one he tore down. He worked out a system and was making really good money. It worried my friend, he was afraid the money would be too good and the kid wouldn't move up and out. One day, the boss called the kid in and told him he was going to lower the pay since the kid was going so fast. The engines were being rebuilt as fast as they were torn down, but the boss thought the kid was overpaid. The kid said he understood and quit on the spot. He's out of college now. I've lost touch, but I'm sure he's doing well.

Maytag might last but it beats the crap out of your regular wash. Denim jeans would live a half life of what I’d get out of a Whirlpool.

Speed Queen is all about having the ability to set your own water level unlike most new top loaders which are energy efficient which require two washings now to get your clothes clean.

I once had a Honda Accord. Bought it new, and replaced the muffler with a Midas lifetime guarantee after ~ 10 years or so. After another ~8 - 10 years (don't quite remember) the Midas failed, so back I go for my free replacement. Hmmm (I wondered)...what's the gimmick? I'll bet the muffler is free, but I'll have to pay labor, or some such thing. Nope, it was free! From the cats on back...free! Zero $ (I did pay them $8 upgrade for a chrome tip).

Good for the kid for standing up for himself.
Fuck the asshole who thinks it's OK to punish hard, effective work by reducing pay.
I'm sure the person who replaced him probably did far less work, and I'm sure they lost significantly more money than they'd have made having that kid there.

This is why the work world pisses me off. Management has gotten increasingly worse. Wrong people get promoted. The Peter Principle applies. Heavily.

Moving this to the lunch table, before we upset the WHYDTYFG thread

Benni tried to rule the block with an iron paw. She had some rules:
    No squirrels
    No rats/mice
    No cats
No big dogs (except pit bulls)
    No children
No bikes, scooters, skates, or skateboards
    No bouncing balls
    No running

She would attack if you broke her rules.

I'm convinced she thought she was a pit bull, because those were the only big dogs she got along with. She got a long with like 70% of the little dogs she encountered. But I never once saw a pitbull that didn't whine and wag its tail when she came around and she seemed to like them too.
