Same thing for the 1st gen Scion xB. You can’t turn off the yaw sensor, so if it senses slippage at the tires (such as in mud, ice, snow, gravel), it will automatically kill the throttle and apply the brakes. It’s crazy as all get out why toyota would design a vehicle to automatically crash…or maybe it’s the most cunning plot ever to create job security and sales on their new cars?

Not so much ABS as Traction Control. First thing I did when I got my 01 4Runner was to disable Traction Control and Stability Control. I'll drive my own truck thank you very much. I couldn't get up the hill in the snow from my property until I disabled both. TC will never replace a good LSD.

Genius! They knew they had made cars that last too long, so they decided to take sales and their customers lives into their own hands

Daughters alternator died on her way home today, she proceeded to pull off the road into a ditch....

Good news is we have free towing with Life360.

I've spent the last 2 days crawling around in air handlers at work, thankfully it's been relatively cool here. Tomorrow the humidity is supposed to ratchet up and I'll be on a roof all day replacing exhaust fan motors. The new job is all kinds of sweaty and dirty but a whole lot less stressful.

I nosed the truck into a DEEP mud hole that was frozen. It was actually almost to the snorkel. Broke the ice on top and couldn’t get it back out. Got pulled out but the mud froze and killed my alternator and the battery LOL.

I had to do the same thing with my xB. I wired in a switched relay to bypass both the ABS, stability control, and traction control. I would have loved to keep the ABS operational (while i have the ABS switched off), but all three of those functions are tied into together with the ECU. The front end of the xB is light weight enough, that when you lock up the brakes, the rear end will lock up first and by a LOT (disc front/drum rear). In fact the front end is light enough, that when i travers the steep snowy hills back to my house, most of the time i'll have to drive the last couple miles in reverse in order to get more weight transfer to the front tires. And that's with studded tires. It's kinda sketchy navigating the blind sharp corners, but it's better than walking in the snow.

The plastic grill that covers the snorkel intake keeps out the ice cubes

Tis a cold day in hell when 2nd gen gets more likes on a 1st gen thread than a 1st gen does on the same day.
    Shame on y'all.
    Embarrassing.

When was it...last week sometime that the 2024 Olympic breaking competition was being discussed here? I was going to chime in, but here i am a week or so late. Looks like Breaking is going to be a one year only event. I didn't watch it, nor do i want to watch it. I don't want to diss on anyone's sport or passions, but i think there's quite a few events that aren't quite Olympic worthy. I have full respect for people who can break, pop, and lock, in fact i used to do a little bit myself, i had very weak skills, but none the less i loved doing it. I went to a couple local breaking events. Yes they have mad skills, strength, and flexibility. But i see breaking more as a way of live. Kinda like olympic skateboarding and snowboarding. I see the summer Olympics mainly as track and field, swimming, and gymnastics. Basketball already has their NBA, soccer already has their football, bicycling has their Tour de France, golf has their PGA tour. But if the Olympic committee sells more tickets and TV airtime with more events, then i accept that reason.

So on a lighter note, what do breaking and the olympics have in common? One man...the late great gymnast, Kirk Thomas. I just found out today that he passed away back in 2020. He was the first to perform flares in the floor routine in international competition. Break dancers eventually used the "Thomas flare" in their power moves. And now you know. I also remember watching the movie Gymkata when i was about 10 years old. It still makes me scared to this day of small Eastern European villages.

Wait until 2028, flag football is being introduced as an Olympic event.

I heard only fly fishing will be introduced in the future because regular fishing is too exciting to watch.
