That's some scandalous ass shit. I'd call em back back and ask em why they did that. Then break their knee caps.

Looks like the CR-V is a one-owner, family car, 185k miles, and has recently had a ton of routine maintenance (struts, shocks, LCAs, two engine mounts, A/C overhaul, filters and fluids, etc.) in preparation for a trip they took. But they're headed to Canada soon on a family trip and are planning to let this one go in lieu of that one. Going to check it out in a few. Neighbor is someone I know thru a local community contact, and I know she's legit and upstanding. If it's less than $3k, I'm probably going to buy it. Looks like the 3rd gen CRV are pretty reliable, overall.

I bitched out and got a Wicked Which which. Everything at the Tex mex place looked like it would give me violent diarrhea later.

He's got the house and boats still listed, but he's not sure about selling it. I hope not. I kinda like it here. Plus the middle child wasn't able to come this time.

They use the shop I typicall go to when I'm in a pinch, they usually do things right. At first I blew it off thinking it was something in the glovebox, since she told me the front suspension had been done recently and it cost almost $800 (she thought it was struts), and they have the AC redone recently, and that was another $700.

She has it listed at $5,000.
    185k miles.
    One owner.
    Southern car.

The good: Clean, odor-free. Paint is in OK shape, clearcoat looks like it's there, but barely still intact on some horizontal surfaces. Driver side doors look like they got a repaint at some point. No major dents, dings, scrapes. Pretty damn clean inside, smells good, non-smoker. Undercarriage is mint. Drives straight as an arrow. Runs superb.

The bad: It was a little weak to startup, I'm sure it'll need a new starter soon, or the cables need refreshing. Headlight housings are beyond sanding/refinishing, cracked up, and yellow/fogged. Starfish in the windshield, maybe repairable with a kit, maybe window replace. Rear wiper wasn't changed enough, so there are fine scratches on the rear window, and one significant scratch at the outer edge, also needs replace or maybe light enough to cerium-oxide buff out. I see the O2 was replaced recently and it was butt spliced in with non-sealed splices. There was a knocking sound at every bump, you can hear it all around the dashboard, so I figured it was up front. I was confused, it sounded like bad struts or engine mount, she just had two engine mounts replaced at same time as "front suspension had been redone". There's also something up with the line on the AC, all metal line, dripping condensate like crazy, near the PS line I have circled below. Condensation is building up roughly where the middle of where that black hydraulic hose is on the AC line*, and it's dripping down between the fender well and engine block.

Get under the car while she goes to grab up service records. Clearly see the Struts are fucked, boots shredded, bumps exposed and cracking. LCA are brand spanking new. So it looks like she got new LCA and two new motor mounts, rear struts are OK, fronts probably original. She brought the service records out. Sure enough, records show LCAs were replaced but shop made no mention of the struts being fucked, which is unfortunate.

Anyway, pics below, but the long and short of it is, as much as I'm sympathetic to their spending $1,500 within the last 6 months, I'd be hard pressed to give $5,000 knowing at minimum, I've got about $1,200-1,500 in repairs if I do the work myself, which I'm willing to do,:
    • $500 to toss some cheap QuickStruts all around
    • $150 in headlight housings
    • Potentially $150-300 in windshield, or at least $50 in fill-in repair
    • Potentially $100-200 in rear window, or at least $50 in repair
    • $500 to replace what looks to be the original starter
    • Who knows what the heck is going on with the A/C system. It blows extremely cold, but the only place I would expect or want to see condensate anywhere on the system is at the evap coil.
If the car was marked at $4,000 and she was willing to take $2,500-2,800 I'd probably bite, preferrably at $2,500. I think she could probably get $3,200 for it if she sits on it for a couple months and lists in other places.

Don't think this is the one, fellas.

I dunno if you looked it up, but the starter is under the manifolds on those K motors. I had pictures, but deleted them. It's not a difficult job.

Anyways, I'd buy that. Seems like a good price considering the market today.

I think that 2.4 has it up the front of the engine. Not difficult, but not as easy as an LS/GenIII SBC.

    It photographs really well.

She’s got it listed on one of the major car sites @$5k hasn’t gotten any nibbles yet. And it’s one of the sites notorious for scammers, so … I dunno, not even scammers biting. I have found better pricing, a couple others in my area for $6k with less 30k-40k less mileage and cosmetically better.

A simple thing like polishing those headlights would help. People see that and it's a turnoff.

Yup, and even cheap ones are less than $100. Kit is less than that. They don’t know how to work on cars though. Just the basics, but let shops do the rest. So the car may have any number of weird things done to it, although I generally trust one of the two shops she went to.

This is the exposed metal AC line thats sweating like a MFer and dripping all over after just a few minutes of use. I know nothing about these 2.4L or if it’s normal, but I wouldn’t expect to see it sweating directly on the line? I see I circled the PS line above not AC. But yall get the gist.

(EDIT: this just made me curious. I see the caps look freshly dirty with greasy finger prints. Maybe if the system was run for 30-45 min it might end up freezing that line like the video shows?)
Looks like that line is supposed to be bare/not insulated.

Whatever you get them better have a winch on the front & snatch blocks in the cubbie. Something tells me curbs will be no more than a serving suggestion to them.

Did you look close at that rear drivers side door/and jamb? All the margins and fitment look great until it meets the top of the wheel well and side panel. It almost looks like its ajar, but it can't be, it's flush on the bottom and top, weird.
