How many hours qualifies as "long haul"? I think ~11 hours is my max flight thus far, but I haven't gone past Turkey yet, and haven't gone to Asia (yet, it's coming).

(EDIT: Apparently the flight was a little over 11hr)

I have a CJ stretch project going on in my shop. I’m using a YJ frame and wire harness (which was originally a 4 popper). I have currently have a ‘99 4.0, along with an NV3550, Klune V planetary box, and a D300 T case. I keep getting temped to ditch the 4.0 for a junkyard 5.3 LS (preferably aluminum block). But i really do like that 4.0!

Hey, congratulations both of you guys! I’m really impressed with both of your feats! I’m actually one of those guys who will loose weight if i don’t go to the gym, so i have to work extra hard to gain weight (muscle). Yes, it’s something that the average person in the world doesn’t ever have to deal with, but it’s still frustrating for me.

What impresses me the most about the both of you is that i was literally born to run. 6’ 153lbs. I would think absolutely of running 5 miles to go meet up with friends to do a 7 mile hill training run, then when finished go run another 5 miles back home. So for me it was simple to not ever gain weight. My post isn’t meant to brag whatsoever, it’s just to let you know my background. So when i hear of people (who don’t have a runners build) who loose a ton of weight, to me my first thought is that they have to work MUCH harder that i do to loose their weight! I’m usually at the gym 3 days a week. I’ve had multiple conversations with other guys (usually in the sauna after the workout) who have lost 40, 60, 80, 100lbs! It gets me super stoked to hear their weight loss story and how they did it. Like it motivates me big time! Just because i’m skinny doesn’t mean i don’t like food. All it means is that it doesn’t show up around my waist! I still try to modulate my portion control, not because i’m worried about gaining weight, but because i want to focus mentally on having better eating habits.

Back in 2019 i finally got my weight up to 161lbs after lifting weights for a few years. I then crushed my foot (racing dirbikes), so i was laid up for months and months and months with metal plates and screws in my foot. I ended up loosing 20lbs during that painful process (down to 6’ 141 lbs and an unhealthy body fat content). It took a couple more years to get back up 160lbs. So strange how the human body reacts differently for different people.

Any how, i’m impressed and proud of both you guys! Keep up the good work!

    cheers,
    john

Me too. I can tell you that being small can make someone insecure just like being overweight. I was 5'8 123lbs... I don't even like looking at pictures of myself from before.

I started taking mass gainer and lifting weights at the gym and I put on almost 40lbs of mostly muscle. That was 7-8 years ago. I have to eat over 3,000 calories a day to gain weight. I couldn't sustain the constant eating so my baseline now seems to be 155lbs. I still drink two protein shakes a day just to try and maintain what I've got. Which does get old. Gaining all that weight was probably one of the hardest things I've done.

Honestly though, I feel a lot better mentally and physically after going to the gym. I try to go 4 days a week. When I see big people at the gym I get the same feelings as you. Makes me happy for them because I know it's not easy. I'll be 36 next week and I keep waiting for my metabolism to slow down. I'd like to put on another 15lbs someday.

The s I could do if I could get to 155 or lower. Hard to fathom. My peak racing was 165 and that was the razor’s edge. Different bodies are so different. It felt so incredible to be light and fit at the same time. Didn’t last very long. Flowers for Algernon.

There are advantages to being light. I feel off the dirt bike yesterday and popped right back up. I suspect it's less wear and tear on my joints too.

It’s a difficult concept to grasp if you don’t have side walks or side roads to run on today.

I had to give up that FUN stuff when I lived for a few years in TX and had to do it on a treadmill. Boring!

My lowest ever was 175, at 5'9" that's still considered overweight with 155 a middle BMI.

At 175 I had people legitimately asking if I had cancer.

Graduated high school @ 6'2" and ~130lb. Ultra-lanky skater beanpole punkrocker DJ dude. Spent my entire junior and part of my senior year with two gainer shakes a day, eating entire 12" pizzas for lunch, lifting weights coached by a paraplegic olympian (no bullshit, the dude was a beast). I gained all of 4-5lb in ~14 months and it showed zilch on my frame. Which he warned me about ahead of time, "But when tall slender dudes like you stick with it, when you start putting on that muscle, you'll be a damn tower".

It was practically impossible to put on weight until I got in my early/mid-20s and started hitting keg parties, and eating 2-3 dbl chzburgers at MickeyD's for lunch every day, double-fisting Lipton iced tea in a can back to back, and working at a desk for 2-3 years, and finally shot up to 190, which rolled up to 220, and I gradually managed to whittle it away and balance out around 175-185 in my late 20s. After having kids almost in our 40s, the weight has shifted to different places, but I've been steady for 20-25 years now.

I've always been one those people who doesn't look strong, but can lift just as much as dudes twice my size with arms 3x as big. Strength isn't purely in muscle mass. Classic example (pre-loaded to 24m45s, skip if it doesn't jump)

You must be stupid close to Windrock or a park of some sort anyway, seems like you're out riding all the time.

35 minutes from Windrock thankfully. I'm glad it's not a normal off road park. It's so big that there are times like yesterday where I barely pass another person aside from the main road. If I go to the single track area it's a 45 minute drive but I normally have the place to myself.

That's what I hate about where we live, it's about an hour drive to take the RZR to an offroad park so my buddies and I don't get out as much as we'd like to.

My parents had one for several years. It was relatively trouble free. I read online about small oil passages clogging up on those motors, but it never happened to them. They got rid of it because of an issue with the air vents, and the mechanic they took it to said all the "glue" holding it together was coming apart and the air vents were going to come apart and it would cost thousands to replace and told them to sell it. I don't know if any of that is true or not, they traded it before I knew anything about it. Maybe their mechanic didn't like working on it?

This statement speaks to me. We had a guy who's work van was so bad you couldn't get in the back at all. Guess what? He did shit work. I kept mine as clean as I could, and try to do the best work I can. It's the same way at this new place too.

Why do I keep calling it the new place? I've been here 2 1/2 years now...

When I first started lifting weights I had the same experience. Maybe 3-4lbs. My wife and friends kept telling me I wasn't eating enough. Finally I listened to them and started making protein shakes that were 1,000 calories or more. Within weeks the gain train started moving. It was crazy how fast I saw improvement. The problem is that I don't naturally have a big appetite so eating that much was harder than going to the gym. I had to track my calories every day to hold myself accountable.

I ate like a horse, that's the crazy part. But man, those shakes... it was like drinking cinder blocks. May as well have been mortar in the guts.

It never bothered me like that. Just felt like I was drinking liquid glue or something, and it solidified when it hit my stomach. Ugh.

Our youngest is in the same boat. Actually lost weight in his 10th year. Doc concerned. Trying our best to fatten him up, but all the shaked seem to do the same to him, like drinking cement.
