I liked the boxier versions. I almost bought one from one of my coworkers back when cash-for-clunkers was happening. He got like $5k for it at the time when the actual market value was probably more like $3.5k, and he was really looking forward to having something with better mpg for his commute to work. The company let him go about a year later. I kinda felt bad for the dude, he was in his 70s and only came back to work because the market tank around ‘07 wiped out his savings, leaving him no option but to get back to the grind. At least GA at the time was doing a huge incentive for going electric which helped heavily on the lease for his new Leaf. But still…

So over this tall grille thing. Like seriously. Now on BMWs? You can’t tell me that’s more aerodynamic.

    We're not dead!

Back in the office this morning after our trip to Terilingua/big bend. The Tundra preformed flawlessly even with its unknown mileage timing belt and ball joints. Cruised at 70-80 and averaged 15.63 mpg according to the mxlink obd reader.

of the 1000+ miles around 100 were well maintained dirt, and of those 100 about 10 were rocky and washed and required some slow speed and line spotting.

Looking forward to continuing the build in about a month or so so that the next trip is even better.

    Priority upgrades:
    timing belt
    suspension
    head unit
    flatbed

Probably a long shot… anyone know of a garage door opener that fits in the factory hidden opener spot on the AC trucks?

    IMG_5553.jpg

I have a couple different openers but none of them fit in it right.

I rarely leave my sunglasses in the truck so I don’t have a need for a sunglasses holder. I also think the hidden opener idea is odd and cool.

So I was watching a video on the wildfire that decimated the TX panhandle and saw this. My gf asked how I could even tell it was a Tundra. 03-06 as far as I can tell.

I worked with a girl had one of those in 2WD. Between the bald tires & her driving the thing was utterly useless in New England.

My ex's montero was the OG 'misty bitchy' not all the windows worked, but the drivetrain was perfect. Also bald tires, on 20" RIMZ but open diff 4x4. Would get stuck in wet grass.

You need a bigger tank than that. Next time you stray nawth take this thing away. All the diesel is out & maybe all the acorns.

Thats a 10 gallon fender tank from a '67 opel kadette. Pretty sure i can make it fit with a hammer & haul 7-8 gal. Thats at least 100 miles or ...12-24hrs of idling. Anyone know how much fuel we burn idleing for an hour?

prolly betta to make it a diesel tank for a heater/generator.

On vacation this week in Hawaii. This place is the land of Toyotas and Jeeps. Seen a ton of 3rd gen 4runners and tacos. Surprised to see a few best gens as well, none showing rust issues. First one we saw :

Sounds like an explosion waiting to happen mounting it in the fender. The fact you know that amazes me unless you’ve worked on Opels.

Can you mount those cross braces (don’t know the name; what’s typically on an SUV for carrying luggage in a Thule container) on top of the fiberglass roof to protect it and hang the wood over the windshield?

Possibly. I could have mounted it to my roof basket and strapped it down. Since I only had to go a few miles this was easier. If I went longer than 12' I'd have to go with the roof option.

IIRC, put it through the window like you did on top of a towel on the dash and strapped it right behind the window using the tiedown spots and the furthest back strapped to the tow-hitch too to keep it from bouncing and moving side to side ... with a red flag on the end.
