When you guys are wheeling out west, for days on end... are you packing spare lower ball joints?
I think I asked Des2Mnt after looking at his trip photo album, because you guys get WAY out there.

Yeah, a stainless one. That cluster fuck of clamps on the cat is because it's flange rusted off too. Got my monies worth out of that system.

Also most of us aren’t doing the rubicon(@Cruzer) and we mostly know the limits of our trucks. Crazy trail repairs and camp fix-it’s have happened but nothing you couldn’t get parts for nearby. And that’s why it’s good to have a buddy system or not go alone.
Ps @des2mtn and I have seen wild horses in the painted desert, after seeing a waterfall wider than Niagara……..

I haven't heard of anyone carrying those but I have heard some guy carry a spare CV axle with them. I do have a bag full of LBJ bolts in my truck just in case. Others have repurposed the bolts from their seats for their ball joints when they had a failure.

Not a bad idea though. When I replace mine, I'll probably keep the old ones for emergencies.

After my failure and the cost to recover and repair alongside the down time... Yes sir, I am carrying spare parts and the tools. BUT!!! my sheared LBJ also caused damage to the upper ball joint, CV shaft, ABS electrical wire, steel brake line. I could have pulled ABS fuse and the brake line was intact but kinked. I did not require 4WD to continue so the CV was not a requirement for me.
I recommend that ya replace these wear parts at home on your schedule. 2.2K dollars will pay for a bunch of parts n tools.
