Overall, happy? I'm still mulling over 1st car for the kids, Rav4, Corolla, Camry have all been consistently on the list. Eyeballing roughly same year range as my 1GT, +/- 2-3 years either direction.

Oldest turned 13 today. The time is near. I'd like to buy something in the next 24 months that needs at least some basic maintenance to do, and help work through that.

Happy with Ravioli? Absolutely. We bought it new in 2012. 150k miles. We get 21 mpg city and 28-29 highway.

    So far I've replaced:

    -Front brakes twice
    -rear brakes once
    -one upper radiator hose
-front struts and sway bar links
    -rear shocks
    -serpentine belt
    That's it.

It does have a TSB for a clunk sound that happens when taking off from a stop sometimes. It's the intermediate steering shaft I've ignored that for 4 years. The consensus is that it's not a safety issue and isn't hurting anything other than being annoying. There is a "fix" but I could never find a needle capable of working.

But yeah, it has been a great vehicle so far. I'm planning to replace the remaining front suspension next year. That will be around $500-600.

I mean, any insulin needle should work.

But yeah, our 2012 Highlander had a similar clunk to what I'm reading about on the Rav4. There was a TSB that came out, but sadly, I ignored it/missed the window, and it wasn't a safety hazard. Though with the Highlander, it may've been a design flaw going from memory, I swore it was something about Toyota's use of too many borgenson joints or something stupid like that? I dunno.

BTW, new wheels look good. Too bad it's not 6-lug, I bet my 1GT's 5-spoke spits with low profile tires would look awesome on that thing.

Yup. I haven't seen them since the 2004 reunion tour, I missed them when they came down thru Atlanta due to work, and drove all afternoon/evening up to Nashville to see them a week or two later. It was virtually empty and in a tiny venue, and it was awesome. Mostly played higher energy songs, and not so much of the sappier late-year stuff. Still have the stickers and a screened print from the show tucked away. Bob specifically is a pretty interesting dude, has had a mish-mash of gigs. I remember linking up with him on Google+ when it was around, and he was working in the advertising world (??!) to make a buck.

Ripley, believe it or not, not so lucky.

In my head, I picture the jeep tumbling down a grassy hill and the faint sound of a womans voice yelling "AS YOU WIIISSHHH".

Not to be negative nelly, but I bought those boots and they were destroyed within 3 months. Replaced with OEM a year and a half ago and still look great.

    The PS rack bellows/boots?

If so, you need to be dropping that info over here in the hall of shame thread: https://www.tundras.com/threads/corner-of-shame-oem-minus-or-plus.122591/

Something that's been on my mind... is it the age/milage of a truck that brings about the "classic" exhaust smell? It doesn't quite smell like my '67 Bronco, but I'm noticing it more and more. I was checked the condition of the spark plugs and they're all good, but #1 (driver's side front, right? or is that #2?) really smelled like exhaust. Still in great condition, but stinky stinky.

    Deep Thoughts, with Jack Handy...

When the cats start breaking down you'll catch a whiff of sulphur.

do you mean it smells like its running rich? Could be a leaky injector. Cleaned the maf & throttlebody?

Man, mines starting to do the same thing. I just haven't brought it up yet. Whole truck shakes at idle and it lopes like it has a mild cam in it. Pretty sure coils, cats, and O2s are in my future.

Mine smells different than the RAV4. Anyone else notice all the exhaust pings you get after the truck is turned off? Far more noticable on the Tundra than the Rav.

Cat's Have been on my mind too... matter of time, I suppose.

I replaced all of mine not too long ago, so I haven't really given them much thought...but I guess the bank 1 sensor 1 going bad would correlate to that spark plug getting tha stank, as it is the oldest of the bunch.

It does smell a touch rich when it 1st start it up, but that's it, no rotten egg smells. Did the DD injector upgrade a couple months, so I would hope one isn't leaking already.

Throttle body is basically new, doesn't even have 10k on it. MAF was replaced a bit ago, but that might have been an Amazon purchase, so I'll swap it out (still have the old MAF) and will see if there's a change.

Are you in a rainy area? Was the coil on the stinky plug cracked? But that would cause a misfire & throw a code...

Who goes into a dealer and says: 'hey, i like the truck, but do you have an option to make it look worse & be less useful at the same time?'

think they were betting on it becoming a collectible?
