These tires are a smidge on the big side, they're off my lexus originally. I'm not buying new tires until I have no other options. I don't think it's as close as it looks in the pic. I know it isn't rubbing anyway, enough is enough I suppose.

That truck, in it’s realm, is a fawking masterpiece. I’d never own something like that, but I do have an appreciation for low riders and even more airbrushed art. The dude is either an artist himself, or has a homeboy that sprays paint. All the detailed paint graphic is really, really good work. :101010:

I was hoping to do something similar to my 1st gen Scion xB many years ago. Apparently you can use the back half of a Corolla Levin 6 speed transmission with the xB's bellhousing. It gives you a 6th gear and a little bit more of an overdrive (drops the revs around 300rpm). I figured i'd be into it for around $800 at the end of the day...and it would also still be an xB at the end of the day as well.

I'm still eyeballing that center dash. I wish there were side shots of it. I assume the center insert is fiberglass?

I can't tell if they cut the OEM center dash in half, then relocated the bottom half with HVAC controls and clock down where the cupholder is, then took the top-half and molded a new lower onto it, to fit the screen?

Or maybe they cast a mold of the center dash, then modified the cast to mold out a new fiberglass center dash with large-screen monitor, then cast a new lower dash just the same?

It's pretty wild. It'd feel too cluttery to me sitting in it, and if they body dropped, the floors would already be a little higher up as-is. Lack of photos to see if they channeled, body dropped, or both kinda sucks.

I've seen a few nice ones. I've seen all of two 1GT significantly lowered IRL, but none of them laying body or frame. One a DC, one an AC.

1st gen xb im guessing? C series transmissions can do stuff like that. These e series are stuck 5 speeds. Which is plenty. One of the very few manual transmission with an oil pump and oiling system lol

What kind of truck fuckery is happening here? His front wheels are bigger that the rears? Front rims look deeper also.

It is optical illusion, but that was also from when I had AAL installed and it barely gave me 1.5" lift with the Icon kit. I eeked out a bit more with the ATS HD springs.

Wanna see a great example? Check out the pics from just after I polished the paint back to shiny again: https://www.tundras.com/threads/lets-see-your-first-gen-photo-thread.21/page-66#post-1821749

Like, the 4th-8th pics on that reply all look like I have varying degrees of rake and level. Just like back in the MySpace/Friendster days with profile pics: It's all about the angles!

Better pics are linked in my signature, after ATS leaf install.

Anyone on here done Black Bear Pass in a 1GT?

I'm planning trips out west for next summer, mostly just for fun but I really want to do a lot of off-roading and camping trips next summer.

General consensus with Black Bear Pass is that it's more difficult with a full size truck, but if you pay attention you should be fine. I've seen plenty of videos and posts of people doing it in 3rd gen Tacomas, which are nearly identical in size to an AC 1st gen. Just wondering what someone who has done it in a 1GT might think of it.

Wheel base is similar but the FGT has a few inches wider track width.

Aside from a good elevation, West is a bit warm during the summer. I would assume this to mean southwest of CO. Maybe try Joshua Tree/Death Valley but again, hot. Probably making an ass of myself here but, I live in TX and still think western states are hot during summer months, if you can swing it hell yeah!! Az/Nv also have beautiful places to offroad and AZ is primarily BLM land. cheers!

Haven't done that trail, but I've done a lot of narrow trails with switchbacks and steep drops, and I'd do it if I was gonna be there. My access cab is long-traveled, so wheel base in front is as wide as a stock 2.5 gen... really wide.

The challenge with 1st gens is our turning radius absolutely sucks compared to later year, larger trucks. If you can easily make a U-turn in any intersection on any roadway where it's legal, without turning it into a 3/point turn, you're good to do this or any other trail wide enough to fit the wheel base.

I hope this makes sense. Basically, I can make switch back turns in one go, following other 1st gens that "austin powers" to make the same turns. But I can also easily make U-turns within intersections, while every day I'm irritated watching that many people cannot, even in shorter wheelbases vehicles. So, this U-turn test is a good litmus test for what kind of trails you can drive that truck on. It's not the truck, it's the driver.

This is one of my biggest concerns. The switchbacks on Black Bear Pass are tight. There are spots for a 3-point on all of the switchbacks, and I think if I could do those in only 3 points I'd be fine. But 5? that seems sketch to me. I'll have to do a turning radius test once I get new tires.

This is similar to what I've read and heard from others... you just gotta be careful and not let your guard down. Stay focused the entire time and be safe.

I've heard it's not worth the risk. That loose rock looks sketchy as hell. I'm surprised it's still open to the public after people died.

Now, I am absolutely not a professional in this topic and I have nowhere near the experience of other people, many who have been off roading longer than I've been alive...

But it seems like the heavy majority of accidents or rollovers are due to inexperience, and drivers simply not paying attention. Thousands of people safely and successfully drive the pass every year...

I don't know. I'm only thinking hypothetically at this point. It seems (to me) like one of those things that goes bad when you come into it unprepared or with too much confidence. While I don't know if it's worth it or not, I can definitely talk to those with experience, buy a trail guide, get experience wheeling my specific truck, etc. Then assess if it would be worth it.

Edit: let me know if I'm talking out of my ass here. This stuff makes sense in my head but for all I know it's gibberish to others.
