Trying to find where the term "runs like a raped ape" came from earlier today. I got nothing.

Their Decatur AL location is a shitshow. I haven't had problems with the Birmingham location ... yet. I'd feel confident ordering from B-ham for now.

Still. Where on earth did “Runs/moves like a raped ape” originate? How would anyone know what a raped ape does? :notsure:

Anyone ever replace a vacuum cord before? I'm assuming this thing has to be disassembled.
My wife stepped on the cord and yanked it out.

Yes, disassemble the back, cut the frayed end, splice and reattach to the screws. Once you get the back open, you’ll see it.

not a vacuum explicitly, but i've replaced cords on lots of stuff. It should have an extra strain relief inside.

Cord is fine. The thing that ripped off is just what @Mr.bee said, a strain relief. I dunno if there will be an xtra inside, but essentially, the body of the vacuum is acting like a clamshell to clamp over the relief. Those reliefs usually have a square base and are notched into the plastic shell somehow.

Your main goal here will be trying to get one side of the clamshell apart enough at the seam to expose the base of the cord relief.

A lot of times with appliances (IMPE) aren't soldered on, once they get inside the appliance shell, they'll typically be clamped to something, then fastened to the PCB for the motor or to the motor directly. If there's no spare cord relief, you may be able to find one, or find a replacement cord for your model that comes with the relief.

General rule of thumb: Only take apart what you need to see how the cord terminates. Then decide if you want to go deeper. Don't get crazy with pulling screws and taking shit apart.

Issue with some of those is the cord and strain relief are all molded together and sometimes the cord goes way deeper than you'd expect, like the hot side runs all the way to the switch but the neutral terminates at the motor.

My wife reminded me that my nickname on here is the Mangler and she doesn't want me touching her vacuum. She mentioned a vacuum repair store and I told her those are just a front for the Mob. It's working again so I'm going to leave it be for now.
