Nice. Found a shell. Wrong color, and no keys for anything but strongly thinking about buying it.

As far as ARE, Leer, and others go ... is it still easy/possible to get parts for these things? For example, if I wanted to swap the sliders out for windoors? Or if I needed to replace the window seals after painting it to match?

Wish the damn thing was white. Meh. As long as it's damage-free, I guess.

If that is the wrong color, and doesn't have the windows you want, what is the appeal?

You won't know unless you get the serial number if parts are still offered. I would not be surprised if they aren't. When I inquired about a new window for mine in 2018, it was going to cost over $300 I think. It was a lot. And that was before greedflation took over.

My understanding is that ARE and Leer stopped making toppers for our trucks so I wouldn't be surprised if they stop making parts too.

It's a public road. Not sure how I'd be able to set that up without getting the wrong vehicle. Fun idea though.

That's the gist of what I understood.

What's the appeal? I dunno, I think I could get it paint-matched nearby for $250-350 at a booth near me, shooting single stage. They dropped the price from $650 down to $400, which is in the ballpark of where I was personally looking. You may have a point. I feel kinda like I should probably pick it up if for no other reason than "It fits, and who knows when the next one may pop up..."

If this dude was at $300, there wouldn't be a question. Knowing I'll need to drop another ~$300 on paint isn't appealing. If there's no parts available, that's a bummer also, but I reckon it'll be easier to hunt down parts than hunting down a cap.

More than anything though, let's see if this dude even responds. For all I know he won't bother to reply back. We'll see.

I'd bet my left testicle that the dude will take $300. If not today, In 2/4/6 weeks when he still has it.

It's a good looking cap. If you could get it for $300 that would be hard to pass up.

Would you consider painting it yourself? Mine was painted by the previous owner and he did a pretty good job.

I would be open to painting myself. @MrDirtjumper also painted his own.

I would need to watch and see how to pop the windows out w/o damaging the seals and stuff though.

I once bought a tool box for my truck bed for $45. It was beat up. I cleaned it up, bought some new keys for it ($17), put new shocks on it ($32), bought etching primer and bedliner coating ($40), Some toolbox liner mat ($14) and a piece of diamond plate and some rivets to patch a bad spot on the top front ($26). I was pretty proud of my rehabbed toolbox, but as those of you keeping up at home have noticed, I spent $175 on this old beat up toolbox. I could have waited and got one in great shape with keys requiring no labor from me for less than $150. Moral of the story, well you know.

Yeah but, I mean, it was *your* toolbox after. Like, you pretty much resurrected it, and you get a little sense of pride from that everyone wants.

Maybe so. That and $1 will buy you a coke these days. I did pass the toolbox on to my best friends son for free when I got my shell, so in the end, it was all for him.

That Blood Orange one makes me think of the Sanpellegrino Blood Orange drinks we would mix with dark rum. Rhymes with yum.

I think I know what's causing the clunking under my Tundra. How far dare I drive like that? I suspect I've already gone quite a ways.

Shove it back in the hole and at least put a couple zipties around it. That'll last you till..... hell who are we kidding, that will be the permanent repair.
