Pretty sure that's a VW W10 block, the VR's are an inline configuration. I'd recommend avoiding any water-cooled VW like the plague!

Yeah, I could tell my complement wasn't received as intended. Both of you drop accurate knowledge that we need-- you just do it more often.

I should've just said, 'thank you @BubbaW, that's great info. I appreciate that you posted that!'

It was received as intended but at that moment in time, in what I view as the laid back thread, I chose a goofy to me meme. It’s evident it was not taken as intended.

My pleasure, keeps my old brain going

Earlier today I heard my neighbor start yelling while mowing. He never finished mowing and left the mower in the yard for hours.

I think those yellow jackets got em. Same side of my yard as the nest. He's not very friendly so I laughed my ass off.

I initially thought angry driving, but looking at it close up, I don’t know anymore.

I'm curious as to what it came out of. I can't think of anything with a w10 in it. W16 and w6 is all I've seen.

There were w8's & w12's. The w10 was an experiment.

Strong neodynium magnet + tape measure is my go to combo. The magnet sticks to the drywall screws, and the tape helps verify based off of standard/theoretical stud layouts.

60% of the time, it works every time.

What are you hanging? For just lightweight pictures these are quicker than anything.
    https://www.acehardware.com/departments/hardware/screws-and-anchors/anchors/5466107

    These work pretty well too
    https://www.homedepot.com/p/Triple-...d-Anchors-with-Screws-100-Pack-171K/202527079

And these are my choice for hanging heavier things.

I use this style. I have seen enough drywall to know how frequently the nails or screws are off center. Also studs can be twisted. Still takes some thinking about things to confirm suspicions but more reliable than magnets in my opinion. Not cheap but also a one and done lifetime tool.

I avoid drywall anchors with an excessive degree of prejudice. I’d rather rip out drywall and redo framing than use a drywall anchor.

I have something like the Stanley S100, had it for a long ass time. I know there's better out there, it just ... works, as long as you use it right.

For anchors ... depends, what are you hanging? How much weight? How permanent will it be?

    • If ultra light, like a garage door opener control, plastic anchor screws.
    • If light and you don't mind making a larger hole to clean up, EZ-anchor
    • If medium, and might see some pulling, like curtain rods, etc. always go Molly
    • If heavy, toggler/toggle bolt.
    • All the shit on the left of this if you're dealing with concrete

These are the only anchors(zip its) I use in shitrock unless I need toggles to hold strut up:
