Yeah, I’ve never had a problem carving when you have the right knife. It is good for upholstery foam though.

I could see the benefit of using a bandsaw to cut meat though, preferably frozen.

What's the best way to kill these bastards. I think it's a yellow jacket nest.

They often have a backup hole (back door) like hornets, just know that. Dad always poured gas on the nest. If you wait 'til night they're far less active. Throw a wide mouth mason jar 1/3-full with gas over the hole to completely seal it, and if there's another exit, you'll know soon enough. The gas will kill off any of them that come up to exit, and any that touch it.

I'm surprised you didn't get tagged being that close to the hole. Those little fuckers are aggressive, not quite as bad as bald-faced hornets who usually have a lookout or three at the edge of the nest, but they'll still nail you if you make any disruption within a few feet around here.

fawk those terrorists. My sister and I disturbed a nest in the top tube of a swingset when we were young. The came pouring out both ends. She got tagged 33 times and I 31 times. If my grandpa didn't have a pool to jump into, i'm certain they would've killed us both.

Hornets or yellojackets? 30+ stings sounds like hornets. Those things are just ... Ugh. Goddamnit, devilspawn. And they hit you so goddamn hard, 90mph, you feel the impact of them ramming you then the jolt of getting stung. Africanized bees can't hold a candle to a proper hornet's nest...

Not sure if hornet's or yellows, I just call all of em wasps. I was roughly 8 years old, sister was 10. One of those memories that will stay with me. Gramps was a war vet, took us over to the garden and smeared a bit of mud on each sting. Supposedly as the mud dries out, it pulls the poison out of the skin. It immediately helped with the pain. Then grandma gave us popsicles. Mine was cherry.

Again, with our parallel childhoods. I got stung 30+ times by yellowjackets one afternoon. 6 or 7 years old. No pool, but at some point, running, I got clear. My two sisters with me didn't get stung. I wore meat tenderizer as a cure.

I'm damned careful since then, and won't tolerate people that flap when these flying, stinging herd-animals are around. Haven't been stung since.

Me too. So far they have let me mow over the hole twice and haven't come after me so that's why I haven't done anything yet. I'm not sure how much longer I want to temp fate. They look like yellow jackets.

In the spring I get a different type of bee that dig up my yard but they are completely harmless. I consider it free aeration.

WD40 works awesome in a pinch. That's what we used to do at the farm when I was a kid. Then knock the nest down and light it on fire after, double your pleasure, double your fun!

I managed to get by my whole life without getting swarmed. I remember when I was 4, we were helping my aunt move into a new trailer and there was a yellowjacket inside. Someone whacked it, but it fell somewhere into the shag carpet. My foot found it about 10 minutes later when it tagged me a couple of times for stepping on it. Dad has told me a ton of stories about he and his brother hitting nests with their horse-drawn plow and getting obliterated. I've run over several on the riding mower as a teenager, I don't remember any stinging me, but I was quick to lift the deck and haul ass.

If they're not swarming you, it's probably yellowjackets. Hell, you may want to leave the lawn mower running over the top of it and beat the ground around it to strum em up. Let the lawn mower take care of business. Those look like the smaller yellowjackets you'll see around trashcans at community baseball fields and parks.

The other holes may be cicada killer wasps. They get really f'n big. Don't normally mess with people. https://entomology.ca.uky.edu/ef004

Dawn soap in a gallon spray wand bottle works great too. Mix it a little heavy for maximum surfactant action.

The gasoline method @shifty` gave is what we always did for underground nests, we used a cat food or tuna tin half full of gas, always do it at night when they’re all in. It worked great like 99% of the time.

One time I ran a T post straight into a nest, they got me good but probably only like 6 good stings.
