Reminds me of getting lead under your skin from pencils as a kid. That stuff would stay there for years.

Same on the '98 Sierra I had prior to the 1GT. (had to edit this b/c I forgot to reply to this comment )

I know you didn't ask me, but it gets really f'n tough when kids are involved. Hell, sometimes the kids are actually what make it tough.

There's one couple I know that went for a solid decade madly in love; finally had kids, and within 2-3 years, marriage in shambles. They couldn't manage to agree on parenting, it was the one thing they never considered before marriage. One could never do enough to make the other happy in the parenting camp, and vice-versa. Neither of them knew the 'right way' for the other. Stupid part is, that's all shit you can usually fix with counseling, but some people too pigheaded to try, in an effort to hold it together. Instead, the whole family unit suffers.

I'm friendly with one couple in my n'hood, just saw a for-sale sign go up i their front yard. Word is, their only child is off to tradeschool or college, and ... now the kid is out, they're splitting. They always had mutual respect for each other, could be seen walking the 'hood together with each other, and were totally friendly with one another. I think over the years they just drifted apart. I suspect they'll stay friends, just not married.

As much as I wish it was cut-and-dry, divorce usually makes things uglier than trying to hold the marriage together with limited happiness. Divorce usually fucks up the kids, all for the benefit of the adults.

I ended up talking through all this crap with my other half before we took the plunge. I'm lucky, got married older. Watched a lot of other friends' mistakes, so had a laundry list of what to avoid. I wouldn't say I'm 100% happy, but the only complaint you'll hear out of me is "wish I had more free time" and maybe "wish I got a little more tail", though I get more than most. But free time can be a blessing and curse for someone like me.

Forever, actually. I broke off a pencil tip above my knee in, I think, 7th grade. Might as well be a tattoo.

    Oh, boy, here we go:

Agree with many of your points but strongly disagree that divorce is always worse for kids. Especially if it can happen before they're 8-9 years old (child-development-wise, divorce and death hit hardest, 9-12y.o.). Parents without discord, that are friendly and respectful to each other, sure, stay married 'til the kids are grown.

But when the drama and *contempt* by at least one parent for the other is as high as repeatedly described, kids will get screwed up, grow up internalizing that such behaviour is normal and 'this is how moms and dads treat each other'-- they'll likely have no idea what a healthy relationship looks and feels like, and very likely won't be able to develop and maintain one. When easily half of comments an individual posts in the open on a truck forum include comments about how miserable marriage, kids, and parenthood are, I'd agree, it's time to take whatever action is necessary to fix it or leave it.

Kids do well after divorce, if at least one of the homes is a healthy place to be. Plus, for some, having kids only some or half time, is the best, because they can focus on parental responsibilities when the kids are with them, be free to enjoy life without those "pressures" when they're not. Could even live in a carriage house over a shop, so their personal ideal may be realized. Now if that's not gonna be the case, and one or another won't rise to occasion and focus on parenting when the kids are present, then yes, that could suck for the kids.

But I'm with Chris on this one, so I decided not to leave him hanging. Oh, and, those kids....

I mean, yeah, if it still runs....

My mom gifted that truck to me back in, probably ~ '96. She named every vehicle she owned. This was, "That Damned Little Silver Truck".

Ha truth. My friends and I were taking pot shots at another one of our friends, all day for no reason, other than it was his turn on the chopping block and he was on the outs that day. We were in elementary school and it was music class. One by one we would approach him from across the class and fuck with him in one way or another. Unfortunately for me, he had enough by the time it was my turn to be an asshole and I got stabbed in the left hamstring by Scott's pencil. I went to the nurse because I thought I was going to die of lead poisoning. I ajd to make up a lie as to how I got stabbed so I didn't get in trouble for bullying. Haha. What goes around comes around. Too bad justice isn't always equal. No one else got hurt that day and some of the others were arguably worse than me haha.

Doesn't have to run, it's old enough for legal engine swap in any state. The minitruckers would have a field day twith that truck. The best (IMHO) minitrucks are made customizing an old, hard to find truck.
We see a lot of s10, taco, ranger, hardbody minitrucks. But when I see a slammed VW pickup, Datsun, old old Toyota, old Mitsubishi, old Subaru UTE, etc. That's the stuff of dreams.

Yup, brake dust also. Dust shield or something sliced into my finger during one of my first brake jobs. Deposited brake dust in my pinky knuckle. Several decades later, it's still in my finger. Can hardly tell it was a crescent-shaped but today, but .back then nothing I did would clean it out.

    upload_2023-7-18_11-56-44.png

Man, I'd love something like that. Ideal candidate for an engine swap. I sorta drifted off into lala land while waiting on a hit for my 1GT, hunting around for some small 4-banger, and found one of these, but the body was in pretty rough shape, and after hunting for body panels, I noped out. Price was right, running truck with a J15 engine, manual trans, $1,400 they were asking. But if I have a choice between drivetrain swap and body work, I'm going drivetrain swap every time. I think I'd probably still go mild with it, adapt something new and I4 onto it.

Holographic stickers are easily forged. Never trust 'em.

I've asked before, but i've forgot & its time again. Whats yalls opinions on tire rotations?

    IMG_3526.png

Non directional tires, everything is wearing fine. I could leave em another 10k without worry, but its the best excuse i've got to pull em off & clean the insides & check on my brakes.

Minitrucks are useless. Sure, you can make em look cool, but anything smaller than a single cab ranger (and including a single cab ranger) is garbage to live with.
