That's not good Noah. You may have to remove that plate and see what you can flush out.

That plate is welded on. I can bring relatively large pieces to the school, but they will not let me bring my entire truck into the welding shop.

Bummer. Well those holes might be large enough to get a stream of water from your hose in there and at least flush the majority of that stuff you so you can see what's left. Maybe it's not as bad as it seems.

Those arms are for the old plastic splash guards I removed a long time ago. Forgot all about them.

Well I'm eyeballing the holes in the plate as 1/2'' holes, and open bottoms. I'll see what I can do. My fat fingers don't really fit there.
Well its fortunate that I still have mine. My splash guards are pretty boogered. I will probably order generic replacements eventually.

They do make some zip ties for mounting coolers. Not the perfect way but it'll look a lot better. I'd also flip it so the round tube end points up and mount it beside the passenger side horn. Right now it's not getting much air flow being hidden behind the bumper.

@Hooptytrix the FJ are super small inside, particularly the rear area might be a disappointment. I looked at one for my wife a few years back, she wanted an SUV that we could drive long distances and get into the snow with. I tried to convince her to go 4runner but she wasn't having it.

The 100 series have a good amount of room. Not as large as the Sequoia but absolutely larger than the 4runner and older FJ80s

I took some quick pics of my LX470 to show interior space. It's a good bit. We can fit (3) full-size car seats in the 2nd row. (I have 2 Britax and then when my wife was babysitting her friend's daughter we had her car seat in the middle. It was tight but worked and if you've owned Britax Carseats you know how huge they are!). 3rd row is easily removable. We thought we'd use them but haven't needed to yet.

I seriously think about the money I've dumped into my Tundra and almost regret it because I wanted to build the LX470 but my wife drives it except when we do things together as a family so I opted for the truck. Love this SUV. It has gotten a LOT dirtier under her control.. :(

@imDementeD Side note, I just bought one of these last night. I'd never seen them before. Looking forward to having it around for both vehicles.

@FirstGenVol - I love it. I'm only 5'8 and trying to move things on the roof rack, especially with an awning on the passenger side, this makes it SO much easier!!

@Hooptytrix - Keep in mind too, the LC's are Toyota's flagship and from my understanding, are all built-in Japan (Yoshiwara Factory). These things are very well built and you can absolutely see a leap in quality finishes/build when it comes to other Toyota products. Highly recommended! Basically what I'm saying is, just buy an LC and she'll learn to love it :)

@Tundra2 Run a stiff stick/flat bar up in there and scale off those bubbles. Use a blower to blow it out. Get a little squirt bottle and spray some Ospho down the chute before you put the bumper on. Once that cures, PB Blast up in there with penetrant so it soaks the seams.

Yeah, was never a car I liked, and not much better looking than a Pontiac Aztek, but once I drove it I liked it. It's seriously a great camping rig, no carpet to mess up, its huge inside, and the 4x3 sunroof can be totally removed and replaced with a screen. 4wd and manual trans is nice to have. After our first trip in the snow it won me over.

I think I've said this before. My 92 year old grandfather says the Element is a Mexican Hummer
He ain't never been right. Gotta love him.

I appreciate all the info, opinions and the pics. I think she likes the rugged look and aftermarket parts for the FJ, I just have to show her that it doesn't really work for what we want. The Tundra is our distance cruiser at the moment but it's 2wd and the bucket list is to hit some of the excellent national parks and country we are so blessed to have. We are not rich and the thinking is to build up something that we could actually sleep in for a night or two along the way as well as maybe an Airbnb. We have been toying with the idea of a short bus or the like but size would leave me alone to drive. I have always loved Landcruiser's, probably one of the most capable off road vehicles right out of box as well as the Toyota reliability make it a no brainier.
The topic has come to the table now because of the maintenance that will be due on her Lexus. She has enjoyed the top down luxury sport car for a few years and she needs to decide what is next. I think I have to get her behind the wheel of a few vehicles and then show her what we can do for each. I'm almost sure we'll end up in either a Landcruiser/lx470 or a V8 4runner, can't go wrong with either if you ask me

School the wife. The LC100 looks rugged with some Slee gear!
Also, I don't think you can sleep in the back of an FJ? Maybe someone else can speak to that. Definitely can in an LC100.

That makes sense. I actually feel the same about our Rav4. I don't see many dudes driving them but I can't help but like it. 28mpg on road trips. It's surprisingly roomy and comfortable.

I am officially out of ospho now.

That's basically what I did. Poured probbaly ¼ cup in the frame, and waited for it to drip out of the other end. Then sprites ospho inside. Sprayed some pb and some spray grease in there. Should be okay until I can find replacement.
