No, and i swapped all the starter fuses and relays with other ones and same issue. Starter clicking though so something changed. Going to beat on it now.

Its easy peasy lemon squeezy. Search around here, long thread on options for cheaper-than-oem-parts. You can Frankenstein your door checks using cheaper parts or pay out the nose for the OEM door checks. Dealer's choice.

Haha, yep. Pulled and bench tested the Ranger’s starter with the battery and, while it spins, its teeth don’t seem to extend to engage the crank the way mentally I expected that piece to. It stays where it is, spins, then when I remove power it turns off and doesn’t retract into the starter housing.

But I’m not sure if this Motorcraft OEM starter works that way or not.

Took advantage of Father’s Day Harbus Freightimus 20% off any item coupon and a great sale to get a nice floor jack and some jack stands. Doesn’t apply to a lot of stuff.

    What's a dick for, updog?

Did you try tapping on the starter/solenoid while someone is turning it over, bumping the key? I dunno the engine config on them Ferds, so not sure if it's feasible. A great deal of my older GM vehicles had the starter mounted on the lower/side of the block, made it pretty easy. You can always use a rod to tap each if it's not in a convenient location.

Nothing budged, so I took it off (not impossible but not easy) and tested it on a battery. The bendix spins freely, no wobble, but doesn't slide in/out on its post so I wonder if it's not "reaching out" to grab the crank.

Classic failure. ED of the bendix, just can't get it up. Most common cause for this is undervoltage. Gotta have a strong enough battery to make it work. Gotta have good cables and contacts. Or it could be that the pinion inside is worn out or faulty.

    Agree ^^

I mean ... depending how many miles that thing has on it, may be worthwhile just to replace it even if it wasn't. Can't imagine new starter is more than $100-150. It's a Ford, not like the OEM parts are notoriously better than whatever LAPS offers.

Holiday? Okay, that’s why none of my vendors are around today. Probably explains that Juneteenth cookout I saw at the local park for the public.

    According to 23andMe I'm .5% West African.

I believe this is the first year Juneteenth has been a federal holiday. That brings my state adjacent job up to 15 holidays a year.

Here's a 6 hour update. Also I really like the Thermopro temp probes.

Smartphone app required for the probes? I assume they're Bluetooth loaded?

RE: 23andMe, apparently I'm like just under 1% Neanderthal. Go figure? Nobody cares about cavemen though, so I don't see myself getting any love soon. At least the other 99% of me is worthwhile.

Yup Bluetooth indeed. The grill has wired wifi probes but unless I'm leaving the house I really don't use them.
