Had a similar repair recently. Some siding came off in a storm. It fell off because it was attached to air apparently. The more I peeled back, the more I found. Gratuitous first Gen shot in there.

That roof is flat. We get like 60 inches of rain and not infrequently 6-12 in a day. My roof has 45 deg pitch

It's water damage. There is no step flashing at the gutter where it meets the sidewall and no kickout on the gutter to keep water from spilling over. I'm about to take care of all that. Thankfully nothing structural appears to be FUBAR.

Correct, water penetration. We see similar here in ATL, home of random celebratory gunfire all day er'y day, and carpenter bees. Those two and improperly mounted gutters seem to be keeping the roofing industry alive and well down here. Everyone in my row of neighbors has had issues with rot at the roof edge from improperly installed gutters. Probably the same company and shitty installers. Sounds like you already know what caused yours.

You need a Dremel MightyMax or similar recip saw?

Gutters appear to be over-rated here.

Oh, but back to the point, other than that one piece of wood.

I notice what I think is a split in the gutter that may be pissing water also, circled in red. And I was originally wondering if the installer of said gutters' may've driven a fastener into the end of the gutter boxed in blue, straight into the 2x4, which would let water penetrate into the wood, decaying it. But it may just be perspective, I can't see it from outside the overhang. If it's straight-up soil beneath this overhang, I guess you'd see erosion indicating you had spillage happening, though.

That's just the fold for the endcap. Usually they put some goop on the end of the gutter and slide that end cap on over the goop. The gutter is solid all the way to the end.

I thought so at first but feels like wood behind the cover. The very end is rotted out a little.

    Why do you ask?

I couldn't tell if it was "butt" or "boy". Either one was appropriate. And wtf is up with dude's eyebrows? The whole situation is jacked. That dumbass could've easily killed anyone at that overpass intersection who happened to be passing perpendicular on green. Hoping he got a reckless driving on that one (highest points), and even more lucky they can't charge you on attempted murder for crap like that.

TSB recommends covering that thoroughly in rust inhibitor, run your VIN to see if it affects your model.

May have been patient, but trooper was emotional. I find that inexcusable. This is a happy drunk, non-combative. Law enforcement getting pissy, mad, bullying, yanking on a cuffed suspect - all unprofessional behavior. Law enforcement is a career, be a professional & keep your emotions out of it. A hotel desk clerk holds themselves together better than that. I've seen people yelling, throwing, threatening, denigrating, grabbing for hotel staff - staff stayed even keeled, professional through it all. (Then go in back & slug the punching bag a time or three.) I'm pro law enforcement, but when one of them behaves worse than a minimum wage hotel clerk - totally unacceptable. Maybe Marriott should contract to provide service training to public Service officers.

Distribution of said clamps may be the issue

    Overkill never fails.

The SwingCase is the issue. I kept buying different clamps trying to find one that would fit behind the SwingCase but none would. So I figured I might as well use the extra clamps. :fistbump:

I like it a lot. It sacrificed a little bed space but I think it was worth it. I keep tools and recovery gear in it.

I might need one. I keep all that stuff in my tool box in the summer. But I have to remove it to put on my softopper for camping in the winter and then all my gear goes in the back seat.
