Hoping not. Right now the money is what hurts. Have a lot going on this year, gonna have to squeeze this in there on the money side. Swap shouldn't be too bad I hope. Planning to try and pull as much as possible tomorrow.

New head, new piston? After helping my buddy with his rzr i cal tell everything is tight & you've gotta pull alot of plastic before you get to metal. And they're 'mudders', so everything was filthy.

I'd rather not ride in mud but that's all we have around here.

I'm kinda weighing my options here. If I disassemble after removal to inspect and then figure out it's worse than it seems then I have to reassemble before shipping in as a core charge (I think). I think I need to determine if it dropped a valve. A quarter of the piston is no longer there but that means it's in there somewhere and bounced around for a short amount of time. If the cylinder wall is gone then it needs a block as far as I know, need to see if I can get my eyes on the cylinder wall.

I'm not entirely sure what my best option is here. I haven't gotten myself into a situation like this before.

Whats it going in? Get rid of the cvt garbage and put a sv1000 engine in it. Or the liquid cooled xr650 engine with a trans & clutch like god intended.

Some kind of wild swap would be cool but not in the budget or time allowances at the moment. Polaris RZR 1000 XP. I think they make an LS swap kit for it. Though I'd imagine it's quite the undertaking.

When i first saw the sxs craze starting. I got very excited. And the suspensions kept getting better & more power, i was stoked. Then i drove one & it drove like a fast riding mower. 100 hp & done by 60mph? Meh. I think yamaha might have one with a clutch pedal, but i dont have high hopes or it would be a game changer.

    IMG_3184.jpg
I'm not a mudder, i ride a buell, but even full-tilt rev-limiter swimming through a 'bounty hole' its not fun for me. Before the portals and w&t i took it through a buncha wooded trails and went and got my grandmas 90's ezgo gas golf cart (on 27's & 4" lift.) and followed him just fine. (Grandmas robin 350 has a carb from an 19hp briggs opposed twin, and the cast iron exhaust manifold was shaped & smoothed. Everything was portmatched. I also put the 290 engine cover, so its a sleeper). Through the gulleys & hills the ezgo kept up just fine with my grandma sitting next to me. I went down into the river, but he wouldnt. Even after i showed him how to drive back out.

The kind of places we ride I don't hardly get over 25 or 30MPH it's all fun terrain though. Mine will/would scoot pretty good in low with a 25 percent gear reduction.
Yeah yamaha has one with a clutch and sequential shifter.

$3k for a sxs motor? Is it made of titanium? That's just a little L twin, isn't it? Maybe .6 to .75L?

I am going to keep my factory 16" star/Patricks. I wanted to upgrade to 17" inch wheels but didn't really want to "buy" any; honestly it depended 100% on finding a cheap set of take-offs from a newer 4Runner or Tacoma, or randomly finding the 1GT/Sequoia wheels I wanted. People unfortunately either priced their take-offs like they're Discount Tire or so low that they sell instantly. I now need to buy tires and am looking to put the same BFG KO 265/70/R16s that are on it (just not, you know, from 2004). My old tires probably have 10k miles on them, but they have some cracks from dry rot--will probably be the best pair of ranch truck tires of all time.

Now I need to start hunting around online, tracking who's got what discounts and coupons--credit card sign up offers, etc. Wish me luck.

There are some of those near me on CL, actually. I'm pretty particular; was looking for the Tacoma/4Runner BBS-style wheels, preferably in the darker, gunmetal color, but they all seem to be black; or the Sequoia gunmetal ones with the star-looking spokes (I would even have considered painting some of these darker if I could find a decent set at all). The junkyard First-Gen wheels near me that I actually want are all crashed to hell to where I wouldn't trust the wheels.

I keep seeing this thru my rotation with a couple of trucks appearing to have BBS or Enkei wheels, I can't tell. https://atlanta.craigslist.org/atl/pts/d/lithonia-toyota-tundra-for-partsh/7624595048.html

Exactly, I have a handful like the white DC near me. Cool wheels, but as crashed as that thing is I'd be hesitant to risk buying a wheel that's off true. If it were just a minor fender-bender that totaled one, that's different, but those all have the GD Patrick the Starfish wheels I already have, haha.

I like the BFG KO2s a LOT, always have had them on our 4x4 trucks and they've treated me right; right now I am experimenting with which size combos are most common and thus are more readily available (=cheaper). Some appear to be more "specialty" sizes and can cost up to $300 a tire, while some are as low as $190.

I hate the starfish Patrick wheels with a passion. So many better OEM options.

Even these are an improvement. Good price too.

It's too bad, I had two sets of the wheels you want. Sold one set locally about a year ago and took the other set to the recycler about 5 years ago.
