Appreciate you explaining that. Would have changed mine had I known, things just randomly go out without a sign and were expensive. I will say the boat never gave me any trouble other than the power pack that one time. I was dumb too, ran corn fuel in it and never did anything to winterize it. Thing always fired up in the spring while everybody else seemed to have to get carb rebuilds and all kinds of other stuff. No telling the hours that were on it. Would be sweet to own a tower of power, but I would imagine they would be hard to find in good shape anymore

What the saying about boats and rv's? Your fondest memeories are the day you buy it, and the day you sell it?

That’s what everybody told me, but it wasn’t like that at all. Loved that boat and had some awesome times on it. Sold it because I needed something bigger. As long as you buy something that’s all fiberglass and been taken care of, you should be golden. I will say enclosed storage was a game changer for me on the new boat. Sold this one last summer:

Yeah, there wasn't any telling how many hours were on mine either. It was real rough, as a lot of outboards from that era are. I think a lot of outboards like that can be pretty hit or miss. I had an old Johnson 5.5 horse that fired on the first pull, every damn time. The 85? not so much.

And you're right about having a tower of power, it's awesome but they're hard to come by and hard to own. There are facebook groups dedicated to them, and it isn't impossible to find parts, but it isn't easy and it certainly isn't cheap. If you've got the money, and the time, and an old school mechanic, go for it!

I got lucky with mine, as it is the exact model and year that I wanted, but it hasn't run in 14 years and didn't come with any of the aforementioned ignition parts, which doubled the cost when I had to buy them separately. Compression numbers and a factory engine seal are the only good clues I've got, and I'm not even sure if the factory seal is a good thing!

Gm 4.3 inboard? My buddy has a ski boat we take to lake livingston, put some trick flow heads and intake on the 351 & it'll go so much faster than you want to on ski's or tubes. I havent been since '16. Wonder if the lake got low enough to expose the underwater trees.

That one was a mercruiser 350 mag and the equivalent of a 24ft boat. Its a Searay so extremely heavy for its size/class. Seems like it would go close to 60, but that could be a fisherman’s tale on my part.

Seems like no one wants em. I don't wanna send em to the scrap yard, but it's looking like that's what's gonna happen.

I can only imagine how much this was. And we have 3 of em. Data crew gets all the cool toys. But there's a reason we call them "limited effort" as opposed to limited energy. I'm glad I'm only here for a week or so.

The FSM-70 goes upwards of $9k-10k used. You don't even want to know what the replaceable fiber holders in it go for.

Brings back memories of my 2 weeks spent at our OKC ACAD learning the fine arts of splicing fiber….don’t drink coffee in morning before class. The shakes while placing them little ass strands of glass in the splicer was a killer. As always, Uncle Sam had an abundance of splicers for our class of 20……10 splice boxes

individually. They'd be easier to ship, and not everyone has room for 3 cars.

I still say get all the parts you need for porkchop off the other 2. I know you've got the gumption to do it if someone is in charge to crack the whip. Baby steps every weekend.

@Tundra2 which doya'spose is stronger? The right 1/4 of crackies bumper or the cross bar of the swing set (near the uprights)?
These bumpers dent so easy, I gotta think you could bend it up without a lot of effort.

Yup, toss 'em up with a number about 30-40% less than what he wants to get.

Then throw a BIN/OBO offer on each at 5% more than he wants to get.

And put the item numbers for the other two in each auction saying, "I'll take a lower offer if you want all three, let's play ball..."

    @shifty` , I learned something.

Spherical bearings go bad at maybe 10K miles. And when they do, the noise is horrific. I've been chasing that noise for some while, but it got so bad I started pulling shit off the truck. I was sure it was poly squeak, but after separating my upper LCAs. It was still there under jack lift. Rule out upper end. I figured it must be solo LCA. But I pulled the kings and dead quiet. Not LCA not UCA not uniballs. I finally did a simple test and narrowed it down to the kings. Jacked the hub up and down while holding the spring. Feedback was heavy vibration in the spring. Thought I needed a rebuild. Went to you tube, kings don't squeak when they go bad. But these little fuckers do. Spherical bearings. I greased my bad one and ordered a set. I'll put them in tomorrow.

they are what bottom bolt goes through on most coil overs. Even though my Toyota bolts are 1/2” / 13mm, the right size is King 1058, or just 5/8”. There are alignment spacers that go in there to account for the other 1/8”.
