Saab had directional wheels with left side & right side wheels so both sides were going the right way. Great fun was had pointing out peoples mistakes with them. :anonymous:

    It's good
The stack the bolt passes through is:

    1x3 steel rail
    Tonneau fiberglass
    HDPE spacer
    Bed rail
    HDPE spacer
    1/4 aluminum backer plate.

different spacers between the top and the rail had to be different sizes so things were straight up top. That was a bitch. Remember, the top doesn’t open.

If you hold your phone upside down this picture makes a lot of sense but basically you’re looking up at it from the bed floor

    1AB6F0F0-E0A2-42E0-A923-25B83D452DFF.jpg

This is a three-quarter inch HDPE spacer where there’s a single bolt instead of double. Spacers range from 3/4 of an inch to about an inch.

I know those nuts are loose. I haven’t cinched that down yet. All 36 bolts and their nuts are in. Only the 12 holding the rack to the truck are not torqued. Here’s a picture I showed at FrenchToasty that is cool because it shows the consistency of the rails on the same plane.

Ah, I see, top will never ever open and is just there for waterproofness, all weight carried through the fiberglass, through spacers, into bed rails.

You didn't want to just convert to a retractable mechanical cover? Not as clean of a look and not as waterproof?

When a hybrid battery cell is distractedly added to an array, but with polarity reversed.....
    :worthless:

    Wow things get exciting fast!

first comes flames, then the plastic breaches, then the toxic white smoke comes shooting out the hole with great enthusiasm & rather impressive projection.
Only in the aftermath comes the divots in the aluminum frame whereupon the shorting 1st began.

So now I know - flames are no deterrent to my autoresponse, however toxic smoke I respond to in a much smarter manner.

Fortunately Piuseseseses' use nickel metal hydride batteries & not Lithium. Lithium could'a-been exciting enough to involve professionals & the insurance company.

But now I'm balancing 56 - er, 55 batteries. I'm going to say the 6.6v unit was causing the triangle of death. Oddly all others were just below 8v where you'd want them. Still, all will be balanced.

We'll see if I blow any of them up later when I try to add more voltages to the array. :anonymous:

Not as waterproof, less secure, more money and all that jazz. I looked at every option, to me, based on what I already had, this was the best choice. And I don't mind drilling and cutting my truck.

Hell, as far as I'm concerned I'll hold the hood down with a ratchet strap. This MF paid for. I don't give a damn what it looks like.

Is this safe to use on the shaft too? Is it applied manually, or is there a pump that’s used? How many pumps? How long before I can re-apply?

There’s probably a disclaimer that it must be applied to a smooth surface. I’m sure there’s a Milwaukee tool for that.

I just booked 3h of shop time at $25/hour 12-3 to work on the Tundra. Who wants to help me prioritize?

    Mandatory:
Headlight (swap new OEM for new OEM cause one side leaks a little bit)
Headlight harness (swap cheapo for nice one and install new boots)
    Install 100w bulbs
    Swap to OEM tow harness
    yellowbox speedo corrector
front fog lights x 1 pair

    Optional
Dual Battery install with 27F aux (later on swap 31 for 27 in '05 Taco) but still need to buy redarc
    RedArc towpro elite
    rear reverse lights
    switchpros 9100
    shell lights
    hood lights
    winch switch
    winch
    Amp Power
    amp
sub install (this I may as well do in the garage since it's just working on the box)
Interior high current ignition switched power (super useful to get done but best off the aux battery
Side Mirrors with or without mirror heat (kinda useful since I moved to PNW) might just try to bolt them on for now cause hate chrome
    Reinstall scanguage
swap steering wheel (but I think best done after I receive new passenger airbag) for audio controls
LED dash bulbs (best done with above)

I'm forgetting a few dozen mods and definitely not looking to do anything like big 3 or motor mounts today, just wanted to see how this rented shop time thing plays out and how nice it is working there vs in my garage which is totally shut down by the contractor and countertop guys.

F, I should make a full list of stuff I need to do.

For time budgeting purposes, the headlight harness and headlight bulb upgrade took me all of about 25 mins.
Swapping headlight housings out is about 10-15 mins per side IF you can get your marker light off in a couple of wacks. It’s stubborn and I was being a wuss trying to remove mine. Really gotta palm slap it forward after unbolting it to get the rear attachment to come loose.
Dash light LED conversion (don’t do the fuel light, leave it halogen) took about 25-30 mins to remove and replace the cluster. It’s a snug fit.

Yeah, I've done the headlights and corners a few times, my driver side has some minor impact damage + replacement fender so it's harder than the passenger side (need to try to bend the fender 2-3mm out on that front corner)

Antenna needs to get done too. Tricky to know what's the best ROI since I for sure won't finish everything.

Well you got the mandatory. Switchpro after that. you are gonna need a lot of 3 hour blocks...

And I'm sure you have thought of it, I would do some runs with bigger gauge to the rear just in case you want to tap in back there later.

Yeah, in the Taco I did 4x12 gauge F to R, to weatherpack connectors with caps. Only using the one for shell power.

I could book more time but figured I'd test the waters and see how nice the place is.

I think I can prep said runs of wire in advance though and I haven't done that yet, could do tonight. Today the focus should probably be on bolting parts on, though mirror and seat heat would be nice functional gains, just don't think I'm getting there yet, need in cab ignition switched aux power first.

For 3 hours of shop time, I’d be more inclined to dig a pit with a rented backhoe and line it with flex seal and work from underneath.

Wire in some lights and toss in a water pump for those rainy days to evacuate the hole. :D

It won't be so bad working in the yard once the weather warms up a little bit. But, today especially, it's cold and the 2nd window is going in which means getting my truck out of the way is a nice thing to do.

And to these time estimate quotes, which are totally accurate in my mind as long as beer and pals aren't involved, the audio install stuff you mentioned would likely take long than the 3 hours you have booked. Even at my best when I was a spry young buck working at the shop, it took me at least 90 minutes to pull seats and panels, then properly route, secure, punch thru the firewall, then fuse and other tasks for amp wiring alone. Much less install, then run solid ground for said amp, then install subs etc. I'd be shocked if that wasn't 4-5 hours work for you (or me, for that matter).

Maybe it's better to work backwards, i.e. dump things off the list you know you can't possibly get done.

Yeah, for sure. I was thinking I should do complete lists for all 3 trucks of work to do. Because I’m forgetting dozens of stuffs I want to do like clutch start cancel on the ‘05.

Audio would be tough to do and sub box finish work is best done in the garage. But running 2 gauge into the cab is potentially viable and would be nicer in a warm shop space than in my cold garage. Though I’m not certain this place is heated. I guess I’ll find out.

they are open till 6 but I likely can’t skip dinner to play with trucks.

Mostly using this as a way to put pressure on myself to make forward progress.

Make your list. Follow the 2 minute rule with items, but make it more like 20 minutes instead. It's almost like Ramsey-snowballing, but with projects. Once you clear out the small shits, it makes the big stuff seem so much easier to finish. There's so few, you're practically ON the finish line at that point.
